I don't think it's as bad as the YouTubers make out, however, the position of the button isn't in the right position, it's a compromise between using it vertically and horizontally....however, as you've pointed out, it's great to snap a quick photo.
I tend to found the way to use it vertically (Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok format) it works well with my thumb. And when horizontally, it is the more traditional index finger. But yes, on my full-size camera, when I use a grip it duplicates the buttons for better ergonomic controls. Personally, I'm happy to use my thumb and index finger, depending on orientation on a small device like a phone.

Lmao you understand that it saves no time right? You can swipe down Notification Center or control center and open the camera instantly.

And you put flashlight on the action button? Lmao Jesus. The flashlight is on the Notification Center or the lock screen or control center and accessed instantly as well.

The action button is for far better actions like say starting a playlist, or turning on/off smart lights, or opening an app, like mine opens ChatGPT which is 1.5 billion times better than Siri.
A Notification Center or command center swipe will automatically open the camera or do you have to touch the screen again to open the camera?

Unless I don’t know about some setting, doing that requires a swipe and a push of the button to open the camera. That multi-step process is exactly what I was talking about the camera control button avoids. The fact that I can open the camera in one push saves time. Instead of a swipe and a quick glance to make sure I’m over the camera button, I can just push the camera control button. This can save up to 1/2 to 1 second of time, which is significant in some situations. The fact that I can also use the camera control for other things (zooming in and upcoming functions) is additional benefit.

If you don’t like the camera control button, don’t use it. I like it and use it. Its addition only provides benefit. You can even turn it off completely if you don't want it to trigger at all.

I’ve tried several other things for the action button and will occasionally change what it does. I tried it as a ChatGPT button for a while (I even have a subscription), but because most of my ChatGPT use is online to help with my research coding, having it pull up ChatGPT was less useful than a flashlight shortcut. I use a flashlight almost daily and appreciate that I can pull my phone out of my pocket and turn on the flashlight without having to look at the screen.

Also, the fact that you use the action button for something other than to silence or unsilence the phone supports my point about the utility of it over the old toggle switch.

You use it differently than I do. That’s okay. No need to scoff just because I use it differently than you do.

Lots of claims of copying, but how? The iPhone 16 was just introduced last month. It seems unlikely they could engineer and manufacture a working phone in a few weeks. It couldn't be a coincidence to put a camera shutter button on the phone? Maybe Apple's implementation isn't so unique?

You do realise that dummies are being send to lots of manufacturers to get accessories ready, and thus location and cutout and purpose was known by those who need to know. And do you also realise that it is more than a camera shutter button, or just joining the bandwagon with such comments?

I wish apple copied battery from some Chinese phones - vivo’s new 6.3” phone has 5700 mah battery, while iPhone 16 Pro has 3582 mah, that’s a huge difference for phones that are basically the same size.
And thermal design too!
These andriods always had a better sustained performance and a cooler phone while having an inferior chip

Apple wants to win the benchmarks so they are forced to run the CPUs at higher frequencies, that's why you always get the screen dimming.

You do realize just because the phone itself came out last month it’s not like we didn’t know features were coming as early as 2023

how the island has been done looks decent and how you can grab and drop things into apps on the island.

For me it would be better as my hands have a slight tremor. So holding the phone super-steady is impossible, though because it's only a slight tremor, most phones including my iPhone are still able to take a good picture. But trying to hold it steady and then reaching for the on-screen shutter button is not a pleasant experience for me. A button would help tremendously.
But it'll take a while as I just bought my iPhone 15 this Summer, so I'm not ready to replace it yet (plus I would need to replace my Clicks keyboard as well then since the iPhone 16 version is different).
