If they do a 5" phone I sure hope it doesn't have that stupid 16:9 aspect ratio. I still think the perfect phone size is between 4 to 4.5 inches with a 3:2 aspect ratio or whatever the old iPhone was.

If they did it would be even more awkward to use than the 5.

If you are any good at GUI programming, then different screen sizes is not an issue. If you only are able to write code for a specific number of pixels, then you should find something else to do.

Then I guess staggeringly few Android developers are good at GUI programming, since getting optimized tablet apps has been like pulling teeth.

(Note, I disagree that you have to be "bad" at GUI programming in order to find it less convenient or rapid to build apps that look and work in an optimized way on a large variety of screen sizes. Again, touch interfaces have different rules than traditional point and click UIs, where the pointing device is always effectively one pixel big no matter the screen size).

I waited over 6 months to get my new iMac, I can wait a little longer to upgrade my 3Gs.

I would love a 5" iPhone but it wouldn't break it for me if they never made one that size.

haha im not here to protect apple

im here to protect my ability to use a high end phone with one hand during all operations that im using that phone for. basically, im pulling straws, because eventually all high end phones will became unnaturally large. oh well

i hope they dont

This message is sent from my note 2 using 1 hand. That is all.

this whole large phone thing is just a fad. while the ipad is getting smaller and smaller. when will enough be enough?

If A keeps increasing at 200%, and B keeps increasing at 10%, A will overtake B and leave B choking in the dust.

But, for A to overtake B, A must grow faster than B in *absolute* terms, not just in comparison to A's prior numbers.

You seem to be under the impression that the 200% growth is somehow infinitely sustainable, even though the law of large numbers will tell you otherwise. That's right up there with the people who saw Android tablet shipments increase by 1000% quarter over quarter early on and predicted that the iPad would be nothing more than a memory inside of two years.

Again, if A's absolute growth rate is less than B's absolute growth rate, A will *never* overtake B. Simple mathematics.

It's a phone for God sake. No matter what, my next phone will not be an iPhone for sure. Apple only doing catch up nowadays with their product. And also it won't be a Samsung. Cheap brand. LOL

The Motorola Razr Maxx HD is a potential alternative.

5" iPhone just expanded vertically again? Terrible. Better widen the device if they are going to go that route.

5" is a pretty good size and probably too big for some but its definitely not unmanageable..especially when you consider Apple's uncanny ability to thin out a device to the thickness of a piece of paper (obviously not literally).

Ideally 4.5" would be perfect.

I bet they'll add another column of icons. so the next screen size will be whatever is required to make that happen.

iPhone 5B?

John Gruber and others have speculated that if Apple makes a 5" iPhone it'll use the iPad retina panel and thus display the same 640x1136 pixel count of the current 4" iPhone.

I dub it the iPhone 5B (with B standing for bifocals or baby boomer), people whose eyesight isn't what it used to be.

I would welcome such a model because I'm starting to have trouble reading small print, but wonder how many others would buy a bigger phone that didn't display any more information.

It seems to me that the primary market for smartphones is younger people who don't need to pull out their reading glasses to use their phone. That group would likely laugh their asses off at a huge iPhone that didn't have at least a 720p display like the Galaxy SIII, HTC One X and others already have. In fact even if it came out at 720p they'd probably still laugh because phones are starting to ship with 5" 1080p displays, albeit with poor colour reproduction. By fall there should be excellent 1080p displays and several models of phone sporting them. It seems ridiculous for the market's premium brand name to enter the 5" slot 640x1136 when everyone else offers 1080x1920 in the same form factor.

Blackberry Z10 hehe...

It's not a bad device actually. Very apps right now, of course.

The screen is 4.2" diagonally and 768x1280 giving it a pixel density of 356ppi. iPhone is 326ppi, iPad is 264ppi.

The target market is people of all ages with no regard to eyesight. Corrective lenses or contacts easily solve vision issues, enabling anyone to use a smartphone that has a need or desire to use one.

That said, every time I'm in my local Apple store, I stand in amazement at all the older people that have no clue, yet are eager to keep up with what they're adult children are using. They're buying iPhones without even the most basic knowledge of what the Internet is, much less email. I'm not being critical, just sharing my observations.

Apple sells a lot of iPhones to seniors who in turn attend Apples One on One training sessions . The camera is a big draw for seniors.

I'm not a troll.

Denial is the first step to recovery.

I care about the tired OS. I'm really bored with it at this point...

iOS is also targeted at people with learning disabilities and more recently youths (I mean really young). You'd be excluding those demographics by drastically changing the iOS just for the sake of change. Youngins and the challenged have a tough time dealing with change, and if things get too complicated they may not be able to grasp it at all.

An OS SHOULD be boring and so dumbed down easy to use that it is almost painful. At least by default. You could always add a 'Needlessly different' option in Settings. No one ever expects their desktop OS to change drastically unless it is for the better, not change just for change's sake. The same should apply to your mobile devices. If you are dying for a change then jailbreak your phone, you can reskin it and otherwise muck about with the UI on a jailbroken iPhone.

I decidedly don't want any change to the OS other than slow and steady, and only change with a purpose.
