My sources tell me the iPhone 6S and 7 will come out in 2014 and will feature faster processors and more memory...

After being to Bangkok and Hong Kong for a week I start to understand the large phone era. In the subway soooo many people were using the Galaxy Note / Note 2 or a 5" to 6" Android KIRF, many were even using their 7" or 10" tablet for one stop. Phones aren't primarily used to call anymore and people want bigger screens for messaging, internetting and gaming (I saw sooo many people playing games there).

The need is changing. Yes, the iPhone has the perfect size for a phone, to carry around, to use with one hand and to call with. But if you want a internet device with which you call only occassionally, a larger screen size has lots of advantages. Apple would be crazy to ignore this trend (they also created the iPad Mini right, which Steve said they would never do). And carrying two devices is not the solution :)

I hope Apple doesn't loose its strategy

It looks many people would like to see Apple releasing a bigger phone along with the 5S to let customers choose what they think fits best their needs.

Well this is the strategy companies like Samsung adopted to reach the widest range of users possible but don't you guys remember when Apple's strategy was designing products making decisions for customers, giving them what they really wanted?

Then it was working well: at first people were always complaining about the lack of features and options but eventually they admitted that that was probably the best choice.
And also, back in those days Apple was setting the trend, not Samsung.

3.5 inches was the best screen size in 2007.

In 2013, many people prefer 4 - 5 inches.

3.5 inches was determined by exhaustive ergonomic testing to be the best screen size. That will not change until mutants with extra-long thumbs inhabit the planet.

And not that it matters or proves anything, but in 2013, many people prefer to pollute the environment instead of recycle. But that doesn't prove anything, because those are the sort of people who "prefer" 4-5 inch screens.

John Gruber and others have speculated that if Apple makes a 5" iPhone it'll use the iPad retina panel and thus display the same 640x1136 pixel count of the current 4" iPhone.

I dub it the iPhone 5B (with B standing for bifocals or baby boomer), people whose eyesight isn't what it used to be.

I would welcome such a model because I'm starting to have trouble reading small print, but wonder how many others would buy a bigger phone that didn't display any more information.

It seems to me that the primary market for smartphones is younger people who don't need to pull out their reading glasses to use their phone. That group would likely laugh their asses off at a huge iPhone that didn't have at least a 720p display like the Galaxy SIII, HTC One X and others already have. In fact even if it came out at 720p they'd probably still laugh because phones are starting to ship with 5" 1080p displays, albeit with poor colour reproduction. By fall there should be excellent 1080p displays and several models of phone sporting them. It seems ridiculous for the market's premium brand name to enter the 5" slot 640x1136 when everyone else offers 1080x1920 in the same form factor.

It's not a bad device actually. Very apps right now, of course.

The screen is 4.2" diagonally and 768x1280 giving it a pixel density of 356ppi. iPhone is 326ppi, iPad is 264ppi.

sony z has 443ppi....

Apple has been doomed since the time it started following market trends, not setting them, and even worse, following Samsung. Oblivion is all they deserve.

dumbest statement i probably ever heard in my life... people would go absolutely nuts over a 5" iPhone

Please use common sense man. These are photo’s of the replica productions. You can see it when you look at the display sensors like the proximity sensor. The real Iphone models have one circle and most of the fake ones have some sort of little stripe. It’s not something they would have so change for the next generation Iphone, Next to that, the internals don’t look like Apple to…

Samsung, The Future Of Smartphones...

Here's an example of Samsung's very clever innovation.

You know, "Innovation" the practice Apple was once famous for? Seems they are falling behind Samsung and others, at a rapidly increasing rate.

Once you read this article complete with illustrations of how it works, you'll see that Samsung is indeed quite the innovator.

Not sure how this is progressive innovation when the mobile device is sitting in one hand, within centimetres from your other hand. Seems easier, simpler to use that free hand to touch the phone instead of using hand gestures. Might be handy for a TV or computer screen when sitting some distance back but it really doesn't seem practical at all for a mobile device. At the end of day, this appears to be more of a gimmick than possessing any practical functionality.

Bigger iPhone = Pretty Please

Apple, you can charge me whatever you want if you give me a 4.5"~5" iPhone.

The 4" skinny phone you make now is not the perfect size.

Bigger really is better. Surfing the web on an iPhone is terrible. And the small fonts (in web and in applications) are getting hard on my 35 year old eyes.

I've owned 3GS, 4S, and iPhone 5.

I've briefly flirted with android, and though I hate the circus of a broken OS, I've always been jealous of the bigger screens.

A big screen iPhone would be perfect in my book.

And I won't need a stupid tablet because I'll have one I can carry in my jeans pocket. :D

NO need for 5 inch phones

Apple don't need to release a 5 inch phone. Just give the ipad mini the phone capacity and they'll be future proof. After all all the ANdroid manufacturers including samung will release bigger than 5 inch phones this year anyway. :D

Oh my, you give up easily :)

The problem here is not the one size fits all sentiment, but with Apple now copying Samsung. If only they had released a 5" iPhone BEFORE Samsung's shovels saw the light of the day , that would be their saving grace.

heh heh, wait until Apple big phone start to take away sales from Samsung and other Android big phone and you will sing a different tune. Competing in business is not like watching a hero movie. Apple missed the big screen smartphone trend so they suffer the consequence now. so blast them for missing the trend. But it is bizzarre to blast them for trying to correct the mistake. What would you like Apple do?

The thing that will hurt Samsung the most is the mid-priced Iphone. It will take away a big portion of Samsung smartphone profit. The arrogance of Steve Job era is the thinking that Apple knows customer better than the customers themselves. Iphone 5 is developed under Steve Job and he did not push for the bigger screen Iphone. So we know who missed the boat.
