I hadn't noticed until reading this thread, but mine has "extra shiny" silver showing in the very lower left rear corner AND the upper right rear corner. To me, it's not a big deal at all. IF it were actually chipped though, I'd be really upset. Mine just looks shiny in two places, not at all scratched or like a chunk is missing or anything.

I got a nick on mine too. Sucks cuz i planned to use a case.

The upper section of glass is loose where the scratches are too. I thought Apple had good quality control? **** you Apple!

I'm wondering if, and I know this sounds bad, a black Sharpie would remedy this?

I mean... really. Black on black?

Received mine via FedEx from ATT today. I've got an easily noticeable nick on the shiny edge on top of the rear of the phone. I'll post a picture when I get home. Disappointing.

I have a tiny chip in my bezel but I would totally keep it as it's only one and small.

Problem is I have 2 scratches on the back metal. 1 is 1/2 inch long. Don't know what to do. I keep things very nice so it's not likely to get much more damage that what came on from factory if that.

Therefore, should I go through all the trouble? I would, but I'm scared of getting one that looks even worse.

Such a tough decision!

To me, this is a good reason not to get Apple Care +. If you ever needed AppleCare + , they would send you a phone all chipped up.

Honestly, I've held the phone off and on a couple hours while looking at the damage and nothing has gotten any worse. I truly believe that the phone is not *THAT* scratch prone. The only problem is they are arriving messed up.

Scuff - Quality Sucks. Does not stand up per Jony Ive video

Well, I am surprised that there are so many defective phones... I got a defective one too.. I opened up a case with Apple but havent received a call back...

When I first watched Jony Ive's video I was pretty impressed when he claimed on their precise manufacturing processes .. Lol.... Looks like a marketing gimmick.. Lol

Got 1 nick in mine. Whatever

Very tiny nick on my black one by the volume down button. Tiny enough that it doesn't bother me too much but irritating that it came that way.

I had a couple scuffs on my iphone 5, never thought in a million years I would try this, but lightly tap the sharpie on those marks and don't even notice anything since the color blends in with the phone.

Yes it isn't what you want to do for something you paid good money for, but for me it was a better option then going through the return process to possibly get a phone that could be worse and I don't want the white iphone.

returned my 5

I got my ip5 and had a nick on the lower left. Took it to the Apple store for an exchange and as I was taking it out, it slipped and hit the floor. The guy said I wasn't the first one that dropped it today. I ended up returning it because they didn't have a 64 black in stock.

The metal is ridiculously soft. We're talking about dents on the corners from it hitting the floor of the store from 3 feet. This phone will need a case. I've dropped my ip4 in the past on cement and it still looks great.

I'll end up getting another one but I may wait a few weeks for the manufacturing to get better.

Got mine preordered from Telus. Black 16GB and had some scuffs and a rather large dent by the headphone jack. Took it to Apple who replaced it immediately. I love having a store in my city now.

called in an reported it to apple, so they have it on file. im just wondering if i should use it. if replacement is going to take 3.5 weeks then i'd rather cancel and return as im flying overseas for 3.5 months in a week

ordered mine from Apple Online Canada

Mine has a mark literally in the same exact spot! Coincidence?

the nick on my white 5

Has to be a tooling issue as it's right against the glass and there is no glass damage. I guess with millions of phones you will have issues but seems to be a pretty widespread issue if MR users are all having the same complaints. I don't know if I'll swap it or not.

The 4s does have a really nice camera

I know people hate to hear this, but mine didn't have any scratches upon arrival. I never use cases, so I'm sure that will change. But mine got here looking good. I do understand hating a blemished product upon receipt.

Mine was scratch free as well. Already got it in a case and a zag screen cover on it (I do this to all my phones).

Mine has a little scratch that you can only see if you look at it a certain way lol. Doesn't bother me and I am getting Applecare+ so if it gets to beat up I'll go get a new one. It is unfortunate but the black one looks so good.

It it easy to make a dent like that with a finger nail or something? I'm trying to see how soft the metal is. If it takes more than a fingernail pressure to dent it, it means these phones were mishandled in the factory.
