I’ve thought about this but isn’t it possible the hole was left off intentionally so there is not this clear advantage to getting Airtags? Chipolo already doesn’t have access to the U1 yet and every time Apple utilizes the phone’s capabilities, capabilities that competitors don’t always have access to, the narrative is they are being anti competitive. So now, if people still choose Airtags with this missing, it’s one less excuse

Agree that they (this other company) aren’t wrong, but I don’t believe that it’s an oversight on Apple’s part. Accessories for the AirTags creates one more stream of revenue for them. Brands like Belkin are selling holders for $15 or so. Just a matter of time before we see even cheaper options available on Amazon. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some for as low as $3-$5.

Frankly, if this is all that Chipolo can come up with to differentiate their upcoming product from AirTags, then I suspect their product is at risk of being DOA.
So Apple didn’t include an attachment point to help Belkin sell you A $15 accessory?

Would it have killed them to put a simple loop on it? It cost $29 just to connect it to something? That's ridiculous.
Yes, you design barbarian! What are you thinking? A hole for a ring would have besmirched the perfectly smooth, round homage to the Apple Home World, where timeless beauty and simplicity, like a ripple in a still pond, will go on forever, enriching our meager lives just for the mere $60 expenditure. How could you refute the artist so? Shame on you. /s

I mean they’re not wrong. Very silly over sight
It’s no oversight. Just like it’s no oversight it has a rounded back so you can’t easily tape it to something, and rounded sides so it’ll fall out of any bag or pocket as soon as it gets the chance. Just like you can’t rest a caseless iPhone or iPad on a table without it feeling like you’re damaging the camera. Apple know what they’re doing.

Tim Cook likes selling overpriced leather accessories for Apple devices. He must have been a bag salesman in a previous life.

This was my first thought. Airtags cost $60 not $30 because of the accessories.
You don't think Amazon will be full of $5 AirTag "accessories" very soon?

A tiny hole is not a universal attachment point for every scenario, either. For luggage, I'd be more apt to tuck it inside my luggage instead of having it out where everyone can see it and it can get damaged.

they're not wrong though. you can be a massive apple fanboy and you still couldn't defend this in a right mindset.
So for $5 you can have a no name accessory in the style and color you want for a total of $34, but have an apple device with more features for the same price. This design was leaked 2 years ago and Apple tends to know their customers much better than the armchair experts on this forum.

I don’t think airtag can but chipolo can
Can the new Chipolo ONE Spot do this though? Just been checking out their website and they look really good, better than AirTag it seems, but it doesn’t give any details on functionality for the new Find My compatible model.

Only works wirh the previous models
No double click for phone finding on spot model.
Shame as I found it a great feature along with out of range alerts on older model. They’ve quite basic functionality really and no precise location feature either

Did you notice your auto correct for air tags. I am surprised Apple didn’t put the AirTag word in its dictionary and I am on iOS 14.5.
Funny enough, it used to be on 14.4.x. AirTags wasn’t, but AirTag was. I agree though, a weird thing to miss!

When you're right, you're right. Apple's only reason for "not including" a punch hole in their design, is greed.

Careful, don’t spend all your money on marketing…

If these are priced much higher than AirTags, they’ll probably price themselves out of the market. If it’s cheaper (no U1 chip) then maybe they could get away with $15 or $20 each. Then they could maybe compete. These look much cheaper with that matte plastic than the polished plastic and stainless steel back of AirTags.

Someone send a memo to Tile: this is how you compete. Offer a differentiated product in ways customers care about. Advertise this diffence. And leverage Apple’s platform to match the overal value proposition.

Tile is shooting themselves in the head by choosing not to be part of the Find My network and not license the UI chip because if they did so, it would defeat their arguments in court. In short, Tile is chosing the courts over customers. Clearly they just hope some big company buys them for the IP and brand.

You would be nuts to buy Tile at this point. Don’t have to buy Airtags from Apple, but any company which is not focused on their customers and doesn’t have some big company lock in is doomed.

Do you have a link to a source for this info?
They seem killer features to me. Hopefully Apple will update Find My functionality in the future. Although they’ve had 2 years developing AirTag already so I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Why is everyone surprised at the price of the AirTags? It’s Apple so we know it will come at a premium.

When Tile first hit the scene they were pricey, heck they still are. They even sell trackers today without a key hole, the Tile Sticker.

I think people forget that Tile and other providers, require a subscription to take full advantage of their tracking capabilities, so in all reality the price is very comparable.

the airtag for me will be a nice addition to the Apple Ecosystem that I choose to be in.
