Do these things support Ultrawideband - don’t know how to spot that in the photo.
But it would interest me more than a hole I don’t need.

Lack of an AirTags accessory hole was a seriously bad design AND marketing choice.

That is a fair critique of airtags. Apple is so confident that they are making money off of selling you a hole.
Yeah I see this more as a selling point. I don’t prefer the hole feels less secure to me as someone who is rough with their keys. I don’t know if I’d call this a jab.

I disagree. I think it will make them more sturdy. Some of the tiles have a metal hole but from what I’ve seen the chipolo ones are plastic. Plus I like the accessories part of it in general.

That would be great.

Automation possibilities like:
  • Bring AirTag into the room that has HomePod mini (ultra wideband). Between 15 minutes after sunset and bedtime, turn on the room light.
  • At night, AirTag in your pocket at certain distance and direction from the HomePod mini activates the backyard light.
  • Accidentally locked the door with AirTag inside the house. Turn on the entrance light as a reminder.
Unfortunately, AirTag is probably a passive device. It's probably transmitting only periodically, or when Find My app is launched (I read that the initial connection may take as much as 30 seconds).

I mean what would have been cool is if they just did this about 5 years ago with the Apple Watch and iBeacons, i've been waiting all this time with only 40% battery used a day but still...no sign of it. Maybe with UWB in the next one they might do something, if you have HomePod minis in every room (which i'd be willing to invest in if it meant very accurate room to room tracking which is currently impossible.

Could add a hole and also put it into another cost accessory if desired. At least add the hole for an option
And make it that much bigger? No thanks.

Besides, Apple's much larger market share also ensures there will be accessories at every price point and for every conceivable purpose/taste. This means we get to individualize AirPods in a way that Tile owners couldn't, and we never need to spend more than we want.

Apple sure can design a hole in AirTag, but it cannot force the CR2032 batteries to all have a hole at the same location. Among all of these people commenting here, how surprising none understand such a simple fact!
This is a joke, right?

AirTag is bigger than a CR2032 battery… so have a guess where you could put a hole… that’s right, in the centre, through the middle of the battery. A simple fact to understand! 😂 *

*heavy sarcasm. Of course the hole could be at the edge of the AirTag, where there is no battery.

This right here! I don't need something to tell me my keys are in my house. I need to know where in my house. Chipolo have been so quiet about actual features.

Also, it looks like it's not battery replaceable. How long will it last before you have to bin it?
AFAIK battery is replaceable, lasts 2 years, twice as long as AirTag.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple encouraged this line of advertising as it takes the heat off Apple from an anti-trust/monopoly POV.

How soon will Chipolo find itself kicked out of the Find My protocol?

We need more information about the anti stalking feature or I don’t buy airtags.

if someone steal my bike/cat/purse I don’t want him to know about it immediately this is ridiculous.

also thieves will adapt and put stolen item in cooling shopping bags so Bluetooth won’t go through.

seems useless until proven efficient to me.

There's no point having a tracker if you cannot precision find your item in your house.
You don’t say! Tile has saved me numerous hours looking for my car keys.

Find My Phone couldn’t precision-track anything inside the house before but yet I’ve used it for a decade now to find my iPhone inside the house.

can it be located by other people’s iphones when in lost mode like airtags can?
If you are asking about Tile, yes it can. But you have to pay a subscription fee for that service, and only those who have the Tile app installed can help you track your lost item. But it can also leverage the Android phones if they have the Tile app installed, whereas the Air Tag can provide location tracking via nearby iPhones only.

I may buy an airtag as another way to find my dog if it runs away. There are already accessories being made to attach the airtag to a dog collar.

Apple touts themselves as being so environment friendly, hypocrites.

Is it so hard to add a small hole.
$$$...I get it.

The most hypocritical aspect is that their entire design aesthetic is Dieter Rams' rounded rectangle, from watches to app icons to screens and windows: nothing is allowed a pass from the round rect rule... except this air tags. Imagine how perfectly that keyhole would fit in the corner of a round rect shape. Shameless.
