Maybe people would've used the included charger if it wasn't that slow 5W one. 🤷🏻‍♂️
I haven't used those 5W chargers since it was mentioned a long time go that the 10W (now 12W) iPad charger would charge the iPhone faster.

I would've used the included charger if Apple provided the 12W iPad or the 18W USB-C charger that come with the 11 Pro models.

Removing the headphones is fine with me. I haven't used them since they removed the headphone jack.

I'm also wondering if this talk of removing the charger is for the base 12 model. Would the 12 Pro models still come with the 18W USB-C charger? 🤔

Do we know the price just won't be reduced by $25? That's all Apple really has to do, pick a price point, then reduce it by $25. If you need the extra stuff, the price goes back to the "regular" price. That's the only smart way for them to do it.
When was the last time Apple ever reduced the price on something?

So shipping a phone without a charger but with a USB-C cable is dumb.

So the cable is going to be USB-C even though most of the extra adapters supposedly cluttering up people’s drawers are most likely the 5W USB-A adapters?
This is the one thing I agree with. If you only give a cable, make it A. I'm sure nearly everyone has an A port, but not so much C.

"Would save Apple Money"

Pass those savings onto the customer and I'm sure we're all game!

Better yet, Include a paper QR code for ear pods and power brick if you need them scan them with the iPhone camera and the products will be delivered if you need them. Now thats really putting the customer first.
Even better no paper, and make it like AC+ where a popup shows when you first setup and you can go to the site to claim the accessories if you need them.

no it's not. they should ditch the cable as well. let us decide what we need and stop producing what we don't.
Not everyone is a veteran with a plethora of cables and chargers. A phone will still function without earbuds, not so much without a way to charge after a few hours of use.

Well at least it looks like it will come with a cable. The headphones were crap anyway and at least finding just a charging brick isn’t a huge deal

I’ve literally never had an Apple charger or headphones break. In fact, mine still works from my original iPhone and the iPhone works too.

Apple knows how long they last far better than either of our anecdotal stories and if they indeed don’t include, Apple is confident in their analysis of data we don’t have. Remember, the strategy always confirms the truth...just like getting rid of headphone jack. No one cared, despite the outcry.

This move makes a ton of sense as the iPhone and power bricks become more common. I don’t need one.

Did you literally ignore what I wrote? It may not have broken for you, but just spend 5 minutes googling and realise it is a widespread issue...

I am a huge Apple fan. Huge. But unless they discount the value of EarPods and/or the Power Adapter from the base price of the iPhone this has become the most greedy practice ever.

Justify it all you want: environment, lack of usage of said components, slowly transitioning to portless, etc. This is crookery at its finest.

I’m jumping the gun but given their practices of overcharging for upgrades as of late, I feel I am correct.

Perhaps Apple needs a reality check. This may be the year I finally do not upgrade and I sincerely hope if I’m correct they get a kick in the face with this greediness. Enough is enough. But who am I kidding? Most of us are in the reality distortion field...

Wait, are you suggesting that a stock traded company is aiming to make a profit?

On the plus side: tons and tons of less waste.

Truthfully, it doesn’t really affect me (and probably a good bit of others) anyway. I default to wireless chargers at this point. And I would never expect Apple to throw one of those in there.

Apple: You don't need anymore power bricks. You have handfuls laying around your house.

Also Apple: Here is a cable that doesn't work with any of the power bricks you have laying around your house.

To be fair i've got at least 8 USB-C charging sources and that's not including the sources on my MacBook Pro, iMac Pro or Mac mini.

We can argue all day about the financial value proposition about the exclusion of a charger block and Apple's pricing.

I am an old Apple guy who started with parallel ports and have lived through many interface changes on the computers and iDevices. The USB A type connector has reached end of life on new products. Every old phone I’ve sold after its use was in the original box, with an Apple cable and its block. Life goes on.

Just suck it up and buy a high wattage USB C solution from a 3rd party. I have one charger block (Anker) that can charge every iPhone, iPad, and MacBook in my home or in the road.

The device will draw from it what it can, assuming the power source is adequate.

1) True fast charging in across the modern Apple line requires USB C
2) Redundant devices and backwards capacity is wasteful
3) Battery capacity (active use time) trumps charging speed
4) Wireless charging, until current speed and efficiency technology improves, is not a truly viable option except for overnight docking
5) The smaller amount of packaging is also environmentally friendly, not just from reduced materials but shipping weight

The fact it seems like you can get the 5.4" 12 for somewhere in the $549-$650 range is insane. It will most likely outperform everything else on the market, similar to the 2020 SE at ~$400.

Doing that means they could realistically increase the pro variants because people have a choice now.
Where do you get this "fact" of the price? Nobody knows the price.

This is such a miserly thing to do. Not enough to stop me from buying the phone but the sort of thing which makes me resent the company I am buying from.

Are they going to charge you for it? Thats the question. If the price doesn’t drop then they are just ripping you off.

Perhaps the cost of producing iPhone 12 is much higher than that of 11 due to 5G, inflation, etc. So for Apple to maintain their healthy profit margin, they would raise the price, but dumping the charger and earbuds might just make the price palatable especially to folks who don't need the extra items in the box. The price of iPhone didn't go up last year but it just might this year regardless of this move.

I initially thought they should reduce the price, too, but what if – and we don't know because we're not on the inside – the cost of iPhone 12 production is significantly higher than iPhone 11 and there would be a resulting price hike no matter what? Removing unneeded items can mask the price hike for folks who don't need them.
