iPod Touch / iPhone (and maybe later a hybrid of the Touch and the iPod Classic, combining a big ol' Classic hard drive with an iOS touch interface)

)

This isn't gonna happen. The hard drive in an iPod touch would be prone to more breakage. With the accelerometer, gyroscope, and constant contact with the screen (not to mention few of games require shaking), the hard drive wouldn't last as long as the current iPod classic.

The iPod touch can't have moving parts.

And what happens if the device freezes? With no physical buttons you're kind of screwed.

so there is no power button or volume buttons as the "leaked cases" suggest?

It can, but it wont.

Behold, the iWatch, hidden in plain sight.

:confused:Im still very confused about this being a NANO. I mean why would they introduce the camera as early as last year, only to make that obsolete. I'm thinking this will definitely be the new shuffle, based on the hardware and software issues of the previous shuffle. Just my opinon though.

Totally agree. I really don't believe this will be a Nano. Regardless I want one - hate the "new" shuffle.

I am still wondering why Steve Jobs posted on his twitter few weeks back saying "Sent from my iPod shuffle". How does he tweet from a Shuffle?

I like this as a shuffle, hate it as a nano. I really hope that clickwheel ipods remain as they are the only ones you can control in you pocket without looking at them.

I couldn't agree more. When the case designs first came to light, why were they automatically assumed to be a nano refresh instead of a shuffle refresh? No way would Apple introduce still/video capabilities on a device, which are very popular, and then yank them away.

Um, don't the Shuffles, iPhone 3GS+ (and Touch too?) have voice command?

I'm still left scratching my head. Shuffles have been both charging and syncing from the headphone port for several generations, why wouldn't they do the same here (regardless of whether it's a new nano or shuffle)?

Key to the supposed NEW NANO shown is the WI-FI ! This has the potential to give the nano many features albeit with limited capacity due to the Small Battery in the Nano.

Have to wait till Wed to see if the rumors are true.

Discontinue the shuffle and make this. Give the classic a camera, make it smaller and cheaper. Job done. Well that's my idea anyway.

The obvious answer would be that they are bringing in a (smaller?) iPod touch with those features at that price point.

A shuffle isn't a shuffle if it does much more than just shuffle songs. It also makes sense for the nano to be Apple's smallest iPod. So while this new iPod may displace the shuffle, it will most certainly be called the nano.

PS: People are assuming it is the nano because case manufacturers are saying that those cases are for the new nano. The idea didn't pop out of thin air.

That's probably a mock up UI.

Somebody needs to tell Apple that touch screens are awful when it comes to iPod use in the gym or while running. Or even at other times, a physical button is so much more convenient because you can feel what you're pressing without having to see!
