The End Is Near

a touch screen shuffle which doesn't make sense given how small the screen is. I don't see how anyone would/could surf Safari on that screen.

Screenwise, I'm going bigger not smaller (will eventually get an iPad). If I did get one of those it wouldn't be for watching/reading - just listening.

THIS IS REALLY SIMPLE PEOPLE! The iPod touch will be for all those who want large capacity, the App Store, Safari/internet/e-mail, games, and photo/video functions (Facetime, iMovie, Photo, etc), in addition to their music. THE CLASSIC WILL BE GONE.

The new nano will be all about music, period (and so probably retain FM radio and the Nike thing for gym enthusiasts). And, hopefully, it will have a clock-face app! THE SHUFFLE WILL BE GONE.

That's it. You'll have TWO choices, touch or nano. Period. YOU DON'T NEED ANY MORE!! (And neither does Apple if they want to jumpstart sales of iPods again. Less is more).

The iPod mini was the best selling model when they phased that out...

perhaps my perception is inaccurate, but i never thought of the mini as having been "phased-out", so much as improved and rebranded as "iPod nano". i never had a mini, but my impression was that the nano was its natural heir.

if so, that's like saying PowerBooks were phased out. I guess so. Or did they just decide to rebrand the revision as MacBook Pro? Perhaps it's semantics, perhaps not.

This rumored tiny square touch iPod thingy seems like a new breed, a new product, not a revision of an old one.

I made this mockup, after seeing the case on the home page, i noticed it didn't match the mockup shown, it looks as if it should be shaped like the normal nano 5g just not as tall

yes yes i put the safari logo on it which is pretty pointless and i just copied over the top bar with the Wifi signal on it but still....

If this is using the 3x3cm screen like most rumors seem to point to, then those icons would be awfully small to see or touch.

Wouldn't it be better if the entire screen displayed just one icon at a time? But then...the application would still be too small to see. Unless, this new tiny device will have it's own dedicated app section?

It makes more sense that this is going to be the next shuffle. The iPod Nano already went small and square and Apple squashed that production model for a rectangular one with a wide screen. If they can get an LCD screen in a Shuffle and keep it at $79 that will be a monumental feat in and of itself. It also will open up an accessory market for the Shuffle that hasn't previously existed.

Funky thing is, the "leaked" screen we have seen has had the beveled corners that would suggest it would look like a touch/iphone/ipad and have the glass plate on the front that folds back with a chrome bezel or aluminium to articulate that change in direction. But the "leaked" cases share the same shape as 2nd gen nano/shuffle. I can't quite conceive how these two different designs would marry with one another (assuming both leaked screen and case's are genuine) without looking fiddly or messy.

square nano

so strange.

Ah, so someone else thought of that too.

Still makes more sense as a shuffle, still regardless of which one this is..good bye apple if all you are offering is touch screen devices. It looks like a 2nd gen shuffle with a screen.

Also consider Apple hired Richard DeVaul specifically to make Apple wearable technology. Even though it's been a short time since he's been there Apple already had a lot of disparate technologies right in their. My guess is that DeVaul got the job based on one particular device he wanted to build and this could very well be that.

Another Concept by Plai

Hey guys, here's a concept we have in mind for this device:

Yep that's my take on it. Just look at the supposedly cases for it.
A shuffle 2nd-gen has exactly that kind of lateral curved design. And I'd love if it had the clip on it.

Maybe Apple will restructure the line-up. Maybe they will name something new,
but I think this could be a new shuffle for the touchscreens era.

Also, I'm pretty sick of apple always thinking smaller is better. Yeah it is..to a point. The shuffle got ruined because of this thinking and it looks like the nano is going to be a casuality to it as well...

Lets drop a camera, usability just so we can continue this fad of touch screen devices, I mean I guess its great for the teens that just love to show off electronic devices, but for people like me that look at functionality over looks this nano is a downgrade from the previous design if this is what it is to be.

Still I'll wait until Wednesday to reserve my opinion, I'll be furious if they drop the nano for this, as well as drop the classic.

While designing it I actually had a person jogging in mind since I too jog with my hands closed. So even when your hands closed you would clench one of your fingers slightly harder in order for your wrist tendons to move.

This way (in theory) will be a lot easier to change songs if your jogging. Just clinch one your fingers and the next song comes up without having to stop, look at the screen and then tap with another finger to change a song.

YO GUYS! Look at the case it only cover the rim portion of the new device. They're going to use a similar industrial design as the iPhone 4 :D

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

Firstly, that's the worst Photoshoped image ever. Second, How exactly would Apple fit a internet connection, Micro Safari, and be able to hold more than 2 GB???

And whoever wants to quote me, don't say, "Because they're Apple". ;)
