I like it. I wanted aluminum to make it's return and I like the shape of the iPhone 4.

Too many people overreact to any change even if it is for the better.

FINALLY some frickin iPhone rumors!!! i've been so starved for iPhone news!!

I don't like the way the back surface is visually broken by the different finishes, but I will wait until I see the complete phone before passing full judgement.

Maybe they have done something different with each end having one continuous surface and then a continuous surface around the middle, all the way around the the front, sides and back. All instead of the more normal surface breaks of front, sides, back.

Where is the antenna in this prototype? Is it on the outside, and will the bare metal of the antenna be touching the skin of the person holding it (like on the iPhone 4 and 4S)?

It's not an issue if you're touching the metal sides used for the antenna, it was just an problem in some cases on the iPhone 4 because you would bridge the gap between the two pieces. On the iPhone 4S, they added that 4th split that was present on the Verizon iPhone 4 so that the two antenna were separated and wouldn't be touched at the same time if you're holding it like a normal person while talking.

Also, there's a good chance that if the top and bottom sections of the panel shown are glass or plastic, the antenna are behind those pieces.

After two years of nearly the same design and they release this? I really hope not. I would think they would be capable to changing the design of the phone significantly other than a taller screen and smaller dock.

I think this could be the final design, but I think before it makes an appearance with the next generation iPhone, it is going to have to be finished better, I think if this is anything, it is a rough prototype

A rough prototype would not make it out of the Apple campus. Leaks usually happen at a supplier in China and it is way beyond prototype at that point.

Production of parts has already begun.

Not sure what to think on this yet. If it is legit it is certainly a significant change from the 4 and 4S. The pictures have too many watermarks on then to really get a good idea of what its going to look like in the flesh.

I do like the idea of a bigger screen. Not a fan of the different dock connector if that pans out. Don't really care where the headphone jack is as I don't really use it.

Two-tone back is kind of an eyesore. :/

Hopefully it's not a permanent part of the design. If it's not two different materials, why introduce a visual "seam" where there needn't be one? (One of my favorite aspects of Apple's design sensibility is seamless/unibody.)

Also, looks like my dream of tapered edges will remain just that.

Why do you want tapered edges? It makes the device harder to hold.

Flat edges provide a nice grip area so it doesn't slip out of your hand easily.

An aluminum back with black bars on the top and bottom? I hope this is a rejected prototype and not the real device. :(

Is it actually two toned? Please tell me its cellophane wrapper or plastic protection, because that backing is so not Apple.

That's what I said with the mockups a few weeks ago—never would Ive's team just add a stripe to the back. Now I'm starting to get worried.

I really don't like it. I just got done peeling the pinstripes off my old van for goodness sakes, and now I fear we're going to get told stripes are back in.

Is that a headphone jack at the bottom of the phone??????

Wake up! It was already leaked weeks ago, same time with the mini-dock-connector:

You are able to calculate the phones width from the photo, because you know the size of the 3,5mm headphone jack, and that mini-coax connector.

This iPhone will use NFC, touch-gesture back and (like mentioned in the article; multiple colours)

30 pins downsized

The design is interesting, not a big fan of moving the headphone jack... but I'm more concerned about the dock connector.

A new dock connector? Let's hope either 1) there will be an adapter from this smaller connector to the older 30-pin style connector for stereos and car audio cables or 2) that 3rd party retailers will quickly be able to come out with their own versions of these cables. Monoprice has me spoiled with $4 iPod/iPhone Dock Connector to USB cables. Always good to have an extra cable handy!

Thankfully nothing in my house (except for my older iPod docks) only accept this connector, there's usually an aux or USB port... but some may not be so lucky. :p
