Fits perfectly!

They are really thinking outside the box on a new design aren't they?

Not that it really matters. They could release a 4GS with improved Siri and people would line up for it.

I think this could just be Apple "leaking" a fake iPhone so everyone doesn't expect whatever they actually do for the new iPhone. They've done this before, haven't they?

Either way, I can't wait to see what it'll be like. Take your time Apple, it's worth the wait.

So where would that leave the millions who upgraded to the iPhone 4S?

If they're in a contract they could pay an early termination fee , or do what everyone who had the iPhone4 did when the 4s came out.....live with it and wait until their contract ends.

or if they're running an unlocked phone or are out of contract, sell what they've got and move on.

I don't see why you'd ask such a question.

I still don't know what to think about this new dock connector. If it's like the current design, only smaller, that's certainly not enough to hold the iphone in its typical docked angle. If that's the case we'd probably be seeing docks that are very sunken or iPad dock-like with a large angled piece to support it.

It would be interesting if the new smaller dock form is a male connection inside the hole and apple released reverse insert converters for current wide dock connector accessories that would act as a pass-through.

It's not a purchase-killer but still a strong concern. I have a about a dozen accessories around the house and in my car that use the current longstanding dock connector.

Please god let this not be the next iPhone. The white one looks especially flip ugly. :(

The two tone finish on the leaked case is employing different materials...
Not according to Macrumors' original story. Emphasis mine:

Notably, the part is relatively consistent with previous claims that the next-generation iPhone would integrate a "metal panel" to the center section of the device's back, but in reality the panel appears to simply be a different finish applied to that portion of the casing.

9 to 5 Mac contradicts this, though.

I personally think it's pretty sick looking. Can't wait to hold one of these in my hand :D

Since so many people feel that it's so ugly, or the screen is too big or it's two tone or whatever, you and I will just have an easier time of getting one. :D

Hopefully the new dock connector won't have an orientation i.e. can be plugged in either way. :D

Final Design?

I hope thats not the final design.
I dont like the headset connection at the bottom. It was ok at the top.
I really like that that glass design, they should keep the glass design.

A release in October oder November would be awesome since my contract ends by the end of October. :)

Lighting makes all the difference

The first few pictures seemed to look like two different materials, but the pics on this page look more homogeneous. The black looks like a matted out version, and white looks like the shiny glamorous version.

The first few leaks did not look appealing at all, but the pics on this page look much much better. Notice the gaps in the side band line up perfectly with the change in finish on the back.

I get the new dock connector, but it sure will trash a bunch of cool accessories like Swivl and others. I'd hope for a very good reason to break from such a established standard. When they went to the dock connector from firewire, there weren't a zillion things affected like now.

Putting the headphone jack on the bottom initially seems good (my HTC's were like that) but I quickly grew to like the current setup because if you put the phone away, upside down, wouldn't the power button get pressed more often?

Or Docked, I liked that you could have an accessory plugged in, like an external mic.

If they made the unibody from metal maybe it's for heat dissipation with LTE radios. I'm sure the end caps are non-metal solely for antenna performance. I hope these new grills aren't lint magnets as these phones are in pockets much more than iPads or laptops and I could see that as an issue.

All in all, I would have no problem keeping my 4s another year should this be just too much of a change. That would send a message (as if...) and at least let the accessory makers catch up.

The iPhone 4/4S design looks great, I don't know why they need to deviate greatly from it, just for the sake of being different. Apple's practice is generally to make iterative improvements, people seem to forget this.
