The back is fugly :'( I really hope the back isn't the final design. It should be one color.
I wonder what the hole between the camera and LES is.
It's good that the speaker and mic is bigger
Did anyone notice the antenna breaks are white on the white one?
Do we know anything else about the new dock other than it's smaller? I hope it's USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt capable. I realize it would have to be one or the other, USB 3 would probably be better
Is the screen just taller, or do we know? I wish they had put dimensions. I hope, if they change the screen size, that it's not just taller. It would help almost nothing. The thing that I would like about a bigger screen is for typing, among other things.

I can't see them using aluminium or any other metal as a major component on the exterior. When the original iPhone was being designed, the idea of using metal for a backplate was dropped because it looked and felt "too masculine". The plastics and glass that have been used up to now have had a gender middle-ground.

I'm calling it: widgets are coming to the iPhone springboard with iOS6. Social media stream integration, or weather, or whatever else you can think of, will be used with the extra length of the phone, retaining the same number of rows of icons.

I really wanted a wider screen too, but screw it. I know I'm going to buy the living hell out of this phone when it comes out, because my 4 is getting a little slow and stale.

Plus better camera, new sleeker design, and god knows what else Apple will do (waterproofing would be so sick.)

This phone will fly off the shelves and break records.

What are the possible advantages of changing the dock connector?

All assessors needs to be changed.
= cash for uncle Tim

Real reason: miniaturization. Apple loves making things smaller. The Dock connector have been with us a very long time.

Macs are a bit different to the iOS family, no? Logically, I would think so.

I would think that keeping iOS in sync with the devices is a bit important, but then we also have the iPad.
It's hard to say because it's never been done before, but neither had an fall iPhone launch either so we'll have to wait, and see.

In response to the new photos added, it looks like the rumors of a taller iPhone are true. Also any speculation to what the small space in between the camera hole and the led flash hole is? Maybe an led light for notifications?

Count me in as a fan of the headphone port on the bottom of the phone. Now I can just slip the phone right into my pocket without spinning it 180 in-hand. The little things =p

I thought the iPhone 4 was hideous and too squared when it was leaked. I got it and it's the most beautiful phone I've owned. This is how I'm starting to feel about this one. Looks hideous.

iPhone 4S will be the last I own if this is the 5.

It's too bad the 4S doesn't have 4G LTE. This looks like something Dell would produce. The two-tone back, primitive looking speaker grill and taller aspect ratio? Nasty. Not as nasty as that pinky nail but nasty.

I'm not a fan of the bottom speaker and microphone design. Those holes are rather big compared to the ones on the iPad and MacBook Pro.

Hate the two-toned look. Love the use of an aluminum back.

Hopefully they wisen up and stick with the unibody look AND aluminum.

This is how it works:

6 months till release and it's as follows:

Month 1) Release sim tray "leaked design"
Month 2) Show a glimpse of the internal screen/camera/light sensor cable
Month 3) Leak some funky .plist code to reference a new CPU and also a new plastic molded phone case from china
Month 4) Report that some crap site like BGR says liquid metal will be the casing
Month 5) Show off some blurry image resembling the iPhone 4S but thinner design with blacked out screen that doesn't show resolution nor screen size so people can speculate yet again that it's larger than 3.5"...the source comes from a vietnamese forum.
Month 6) Show an empty shell without a circuit board but should drive people mad because it looks like an iPhone 4/4S but thinner and the screen is THE SAME SIZE.

Month 7) Profit (apple that is) because final design is unveiled and sold out hot cakes.

Also, one can only assume that if that is the black iPhone, the white would use the same light gray silver for its metal portion of the backing since it is closer to white.

And, a half hourish later emerges the exact white part. The white looks pretty nice with the new design!

Two tone back? Are there even any current smartphone makers that have ventured into such an ugly design?

Sorry, I don't see Apple releasing a two tone color backing. I could be wrong, but I guess we'll see.

I like it, but I don't really understand the back.

The Aluminum serves no purpose. It doesn't make the phone any less fragile, because the corners are still glass. So why not just keep the whole glass back?

Someone suggested it could be a touch sensitive back like the Vita, but that seems gimmicky and not something apple would do.

Sorry, I don't see Apple releasing a two tone color backing.

The original iPhone was two-toned.

This is about as silly an argument as I've seen. You are really arguing over how to properly store your phone in your pocket?

He's right though. It's the only position that doesn't require you to adjust your grip after you pull your phone out of your pocket. It also protects the phone from impact, and if the back of the next iPhone is really aluminium, that position will help the iPhone dissipate heat better. You're free to pocket the phone however you want, but that doesn't mean there isn't an optimal position.

If people are discussing the headphone port location, it's only natural to discuss how the phone is stored since that has a direct impact on how well you feel the headphone jack is placed. In my opinion, the jack was only at the top because there wasn't space before. The dock connector was too big to allow a speaker, microphone and headphone jack to fit on the bottom. A smaller dock connector both makes the relocation of the headphone jack possible and possibly a necessity, as the dock connector by itself would make for a flimsy stand.

For me, the bottom position simplifies my in car setup (plugging cords into both ends sucks), protects my headphones from being unplugged when I pull my phone out of my pocket and keeps the cord away from the screen. I hope this change is happening.
