If the gold/champagne color is going to be a real choice, I can understand Apple's decision based upon foreign market color sense, but given the aluminum of the 5/5S could be anodized to be almost any color, why not offer more of a broad selection of choices like the purported 5C is said to have?

They did it with aluminum iPods, why not with iPhones?

This Gold and Rose/Champagne iPhone could easily be 100% fact.

With the poly iPhone to debut this fall just along the iPhone 5S - Product Differentiation is heavily important now in the iPhone product lineup for Apple. Since the "Apple Ecosystem" is pretty similar for their UIs... Differentiation their lineup now for the market is a very smart & stategic move for them. I could also see the poly iPhone have more control through cloud, so the poly may have low storage nonetheless.

Apple knows best about market and product cannibalization... I could see the 'metalic' colors coming before the poly iPhone, along with some other features and functions to differentiate the two.

I wouldn't mind if the color turned out to be similar to that of my ancient 'golden' minidisc recorder

Ugly, ugly, UGLY!!!

What in hell is happening to this company?

At least the new Mac Pro looks awesome (though function may not follow form—we'll have to wait to read reports from new owners re how convenient, capable, and easy to use it is).

On a similar note, I have HATED the colors they used on the Nanos in recent years. No grudge against pastels, but they are some of the ugliest non-primary-type colors I've ever seen.

It's not an Apple-esque move, but it will sell like hot cakes. Guaranteed.

Actually it _is_ an Apple classic move.

Designed to control the minds of not only the Apple Faithful, but the masses, it directs the focus away from what is essentially an old design that lacks innovation, and creates more buzz for little effort on Apples part.

Always the masters of smoke and mirrors marketing, this is a very predictable Apple Stunt.

Since Champagne is a trademark, either this iPhone will have to be produced in Champagne region (France) or AAPL will have to pay some kind of patent rights.

Champagne is not a trademark, it is a protected geographical indication for selected products of that region.

God if only Apple made th iPhone 5" it would be so innovative. Why hasn't Cook thought about that?

i'm pretty sure that as soon as Apple releases a Champagne iphone, Samsung and other non-innovative followers will do exactly the same

I don't mind the champagne colour, but why leave those white bands? It looks horrible like that.

That said, I wouldn't buy one, and I'd wager the majority of people that do will be doing so to match a dress-sense so tacky it won't matter whether any one part of it looks good on its own, but still I think if you're going to do colour options it should really encompass at least one whole side of the phone or it looks weird.

*sigh* Nobody knows whether the tops & bottoms will be white or gold... that picture is a MOCK UP!

Lol, at knowing it's ugly by not even seeing it... only looking at a photoshopped mock up. Knee jerk much?

Sadly I share your sentiments. The company I once admired has become a one trick pony. They are brilliant at generating revenue and that's about it.

Hmm...if Apple didn't generate revenue that would mean no one is buying their products. Would you prefer Apple make niche products that sell to a small customer base?

While the buck stops on Cooks desk, I question how anyone in his position could overcome the fact that they're not Steve Jobs.

Of even greater importance is that Apple has suddenly been exposed, allowing all the world to see their slow implosion. Exec changes, questionable claims of a flood of new products in Q3 and Q4, all accompanied by a wide range of rather sketchy rumors.

In no way am I forecasting their demise, they're far too fat and happy, laughing uncontrollably as they sit atop a skyscraper of cash.

What a bizarre situation to witness.

OT, but that's a beautiful bit of classic pre-iPod kit. I have a mid 80's Sony Walkman with an aluminium shell no larger than an audio cassette. Beautifully engineered device. Sony ruled the roost back then.

I understood that you were being negative... No need for clarity there. It was just the drug-addled sounding drivel about 3 color choices and calling Tim Cook, Tim Cock... that I didn't follow.
Maybe this will jog your memory?

Posted by BruceEBonus:

"Fool's Gold ( the tacky finish means good grip on smooth surfaces)
Plate-inum ( its heavy weight means it stays put when placed on slight inclines)
Londinium ( a pre-civilised, unrefined look reflects the owners tastes)

Tim Cock predicts "It'll be as innovative as sliced bread-after sliced bread"

Wtf are you talking about????????????!

Alright calm down. It's fine. It was a "joke". And it's gone over your head.

And in this forum where things are taken literally - that's no big surprise, then.

And yet..in a way it's ironically quite befitting that things have clearly gone beyond a joke when a 'classy' phone colour is reason enough to buy.

A skyscraper of cash generated by building products people want to buy. :D

...

Champagne is not as obnoxious as gold, but I still wouldn't get one. I don't buy apple products for status, I buy them because they're easy to use and I enjoy them.

This gal will continue to stick with black or white or silver depending on the Apple product.

All that said, if they are popular in countries where gold is a beloved option, great.

Another post with no substance, but just blind accusations.

If this is a "very predictable Apple Stunt", when did you predict it?

And what exactly do you know about the design of the next iPhone?

Hmm...if Apple didn't generate revenue that would mean no one is buying their products.

You are absolutely correct.

I understand business very well, and don't begrudge Apples exemplary skill at generating massive profits, especially since as a decades long shareholder, I've enjoyed mind boggling gains. Much of which I've turned into mountains of cash.

But the engineer, developer, enthusiast side of me truly misses the Apple of not that long ago, during the era when they were well balanced... Engineering terrific products, focused in earnest on customer satisfaction, and still generated world class profits.

More of the same old drivel.

It's a third color choice. If you like it, buy it, otherwise don't. Either way offering a "gold/champagne" color choice does not spell the demise of Apple.

Sheese.

i'm pretty sure that as soon as Apple releases a Champagne iphone, Samsung and other non-innovative followers will do exactly the same

Absolutely not. You see, if Apple does it, it shows they are running out of ideas. If Samsung does it, first it is not copying; they are not followers, they are leading from behind. Second, a gold coloured Samsung phone would be innovative, and demonstrating how Samsung gives its customers choice, while Apple does it to distract from their lack of innovation.

There is a poster named macosx here who will gladly explain it to you in detail.

Try again, surely you can do better than that :)
