You are absolutely correct.

I understand business very well, and don't begrudge Apples exemplary skill at generating massive profits, especially since as a decades long shareholder, I've enjoyed mind boggling gains. Much of which I've turned into mountains of cash.

But the engineer, developer, enthusiast side of me truly misses the Apple of not that long ago, during the era when they were well balanced... Engineering terrific products, focused in earnest on customer satisfaction, and still generated world class profits.

Maybe in your alternate universe they're not doing that, but in mine they are. :). Care to provide some statistics that show Apple is no longer focused on customer satisfaction? And I'm not sure what your definition of "world class profits" is but Apple didn't start generating huge profits until well after the iPhone took off.

I always get a good laugh when a celebrity tweets that they love their Samsung phone followed by the note "posted from my iPhone".

I would assume that these celebrities are highly intelligent and have a good sense of humour, so they take the money from Samsung, but keep the signature intentionally.

Obviously others observations, experience and opinions strike an emotional nerve with you. I don't see any meaningful counterpoints coming from your pot shots :D

What observations and experience? Claimed opinions, sure.

My counterpoints were absolutely clear: Reading your posts demonstrates to everyone that you try desperately to put a negative spin on everything Apple does. That's all. No other counterpoints are needed.

Maybe in your alternate universe

I respond to your post with the continuing intent on having a respectful discussion and you make it personal in lieu of an apparent absence of anything meaningful to contribute.

A typical tactic used to invite conflict. No wonder Apple users are often viewed with a jaundiced eye by the intelligent main stream enthusiasts.

If my statement above leaves you wondering, look in the mirror.

And that say iOS devices are not for the lowest common denominator in the Apple community.

I don't mind the champagne colour, but why leave those white bands? It looks horrible like that.

That said, I wouldn't buy one, and I'd wager the majority of people that do will be doing so to match a dress-sense so tacky it won't matter whether any one part of it looks good on its own, but still I think if you're going to do colour options it should really encompass at least one whole side of the phone or it looks weird.

Champagne (gold) will match with white or ivory white.
It's good to have more choice, someone will like it, if someone don't like it they can select other color.

A new level of tackiness for the iPhone. Gold, seriously?
What are they thinking?

It's not gold, it's more like beige.
It won't be any tackier than a beige Toyota Camry.

The "champagne" iPhone won't be intended primarily for the US audience, it will mainly be meant for China and India... it may or may not be available in the US, but I don't see why they wouldn't give us the choice.

one of two things will happen:

1) Apple will release the champagne iPhone in the US, and people will say "tacky move, apple is doomed"

2) Apple will release the champagne iPhone in overseas markets but not the US, people will say "why exclude the US? Can't we choose the color we want? Apple is doomed"

Or, I guess there's an option 3:

3) These are all just photoshops and there actually won't be a champagne iPhone

Champagne is not a trademark, it is a protected geographical indication for selected products of that region.

What's more, ASUS has been selling products like their TF700T in "champagne gold" for at least a year.

It looks alright the way they did it.

If ASUS are going for gold and purple, maybe Apple should too. It's been noted that some markets love gold, and teenage girls seem to dig on purple.

You know what Steve would have approved? Money.

If you don't like the gold/champagne colored iPhone, couldn't you just, oh, I dunno, buy a black or white one instead of wasting all of your time and energy bitching about it here?

So the rappers along with the professional Basketball and football players will have an iPhone that matches their teeth... wonderful..........
*sigh*

Never a bad thing to give customers a choice.

I bet they analyzed the hell out of it and came up with this as a first foray into greater choice in colors.

It's never a bad thing to give customers a choice; we'd all probably still be driving Fords if other manufacturers had not come along and started offering more choices than old Henry Ford who would sell you a car in any color "as long as it is black". Heck, that ended his monopoly!

If it works I bet the next one is pink, like my daughter's iPod Touch.

I think it would be unwise to underestimate the impact of fashion on buying choices in many market segments.

At least it will match Will.i.am's gold camera case!

I could see this doing well perhaps in China or other markets.

Apple wouldn't just do it for sake of doing it. Somehow they determined this color would sell.

"OMFG a GOLD iPhone? They are going outta business for sure!!!"

Sees picture of said iPhone: "OMFG I NEED ONE OF THOSE NOOOOOW, I totes predicted this!!"

MacRumors...the bipolar capital of the Mac world.

If that's where they want to put their money, so be it. Doesn't mean anyone has to buy it. Probably be popular in China and India as suggested but the author forgot New Jersey/New York as well. :D
