Let me just first explain that it's "lose", not "loose". Sorry to be a grammar nazi, but I see far too many people not understand the difference. You lose something, you don't loose it.

Also, I most certainly have problems with the new MacBook Pro and some of the things Apple has done, but they are real, legitimate things. And I'm not using the loss of a startup chime as an indication of anything except that they felt it unnecessary.

If you're going to complain about thing Apple is doing, talking about their "idiosyncrasies" is melodrama.
You remind me of that annoying teacher's pet that nobody liked in school.
Maybe you should understand that most people DO understand the difference, but couldn't give a flying u know wot, about wether ur gramatikal sensitivitys r impinged upon.

While focused on other peoples correct use of the english language in a forum that includes many non-native english speakers, you forgot to understand my point.

Like you, the chime to me is not a huge loss, but the point was about it showing up a pattern that Apple's been in.

It's a lot harder to teach comprehension than diction.

My PC is on for 37 days. Windows PC does not need to be restarted as often as you think.

What if it does not? Heat up the entire machine? I have such experience once and it almost ruined my Mac.

I had the same experience and I am surprised it did not do any damage (well AFAIK). I pulled it out of my bag and the thing was HOT. Fans full. With my 08 MacBook Pro I used to wait for the light to pulse so I knew it was asleep. Now I have to hold the thing up to my ear and wait for the fans to spool down.

But you still have to assume it does not wake on its own...or even worse, power up on its own.

Most of my comment was about your point. Apparently you missed that.

I understand your point about the chime being part of a bigger picture, but my point is that it is not. If you want to complain about a perceived decline of Apple products, then you can make a valid argument. But by saying taking away a boot up chime is indicative of a larger problem, then I would respectfully (okay, maybe not respectfully) disagree.

And I mentioned the "loose vs lose" issues because you wrote it three times, which told me it wasn't simply a mistype. And I'm not sure why it would matter whether you were a native English speaker or not. I'm pretty sure non-native English speakers would like to know if they were confused about a common word. It seems to be quite a common mistake many younger people make, nowadays, and I'm not sure why.

It's not "resistance to change" but rather the whole gamut of changes Apple has been doing as of late with no obvious good reasons...for consumers at least.

I USE IT ALL THE TIME...they should remove the Shift button too. We can just long press or use Force Touch to get capital letters and other characters...;)

OR, shift it into Touch Bar and extend the return key :p

This is the one I just don't get. MagSafe was an amazing charging connector, so I'm sad to see it depart. I'm guessing if you want to be able to charge from any port, the magnetic feature would be horrible at connecting any other device.

Because the sooner a nMBP customer gets their machine yanked off of a fashionable standing-desk by someone walking by looking at their phone or padpod screen (whatever) the sooner said nMBP is broken and must be replaced. Apple for the win!

It is sad to see (hear) it go....

Shows that they want to move away from their roots......and that is not a good thing to me

Agree, the chime and backlit Apple logo have always been nice to have. For as long as they've been seen or heard, many people were reminded of the company that made them. So Apple has done away with features that were good advertising in a way too.

Sorry, (OT) but WTF is an Apple eMate 300? Did you do a Compact Flash update to your 2G iPod?

Ahh! I remember those! Still working, or is it in a display case. I dare you to take it to the "Genius" bar.

Also Apple uses now a Chinese Wi-Fi chip which is about 40% slower than Broadcom. Are we paying premium price for this laopp to get that Chinese ****** chip ?

Still working :D and in almost new condition! (I am sure that most people working at the Genius Bar would not even know what it is he he)

No CF mod on the 2g, as I like to keep them original :D

So you often need to open your laptop but leave it powered off? Is there ever a good reason for that?

I agree to with that logic, but it looks like they are going the route as Microsoft to always have the computer on, even in a low power state...

No one questions why? They say for a faster startup...yeah sure. All who work in security should know why...GPS is always on..and "phone home" is a constant stream. What is the benefit..really nothing. But for them and whomever...

They ALWAYS know where it is..meaning...where YOU are...

Ha, ha ha! Sorry, I meant that they always know where you are and when you are on if that is an issue to some. If the system "calls home" it gives location info., when you are on and off etc. No need for GPS hardware. Sends info. easier.
