Been thinking about it lately and the new iPhone seems to offer nothing new for me this year. For the first time since the 5s, I won't be getting a new iPhone this year unless they add something useful such as waterproofing or wireless charging. But I hope that giant lens also has at least 15 megapixels and 60fps 4K video.

Who cares about the exterior of the 2016 iPhone?
I am more interested in the 3D Touch home button, water resistance and wireless charging rumors.

The wireless charging (I think mostly wishful thinking over rumors though) would be a game changer. We will see though.

If they did pull it off, it would improve the perception of Tim Cook's reign, who has yet to hit a home run.

How can a phone produce stereo sound if the speakers are few inches away from each other...? Two speakers won't be there to introduce stereo sound, it can only make the phone play sounds louder.
Stereo sound has nothing to do with speaker distance , the can be next to each other or a mile apart it's what comes out the split channels that make it stereo

You have to use one to understand just how far behind Android, Apple is.

Apple’s analog, mechanical button is 1950's technology. Vulnerable to failure, incredibly slow due to its mechanical reciprocating movement, it's a testimony to how many Devotees are clueless when it comes to Apple's shortcomings.

Apple has an unusually high degree of influence and control over their customers. As such they assume Apple uses the latest technology, a poor and inaccurate assumption.
It is this "1950's technology" that has provided Apple with a distinctive edge in its design in my opinion, a physical clicking button with tactile feedback, a meeting of modern technology and classic design, a nod to the past in moving forward.

This 1960 Dieter Rams loudspeaker is said to have been an influence in the design of iMacs from the mid 2000s.

People display them on their cars , free advertising.
Thanks. Yes, I understand that. But I'm wondering if those Apple stickers included with products are a throwback to the past and something Apple has been doing since its very early days.

Thank you. I had a Nokia at one point with stereo speakers, believe me you can hear the different channels even though the speakers are near each other.

The rumours have been solidifying for months, not sure why people are so surprised that as usual they're mostly true. Next year will be much better imo, so I'd hardly call the 6S+ 'peak iPhone'.

Based on what? More camera protrusion? Maybe because by then everyone will have a crap DAC Lightning dongle? Or maybe, it'll be 0.04mm thinner?

Yes, but in a practical sense, if you put L and R next to one another, it's a mono result, no?

And just in case anyone doubted, a clip (unedited) showing the pavement bending around his finger.

If that large camera opening is going to be for a large lens, then it should also mean that the iPhone 7 is going to have a sensor of approximately double the size of the one in use now. That's going to result in significant improvement in low light performance synonymous with the improvement seen in the jump from a DX sensor to full frame sensor on a Nikon SLR. Larger pixels capture less light better than smaller pixels.

Alternatively, Apple could put 2 lenses inside one circle under a single piece of glass to keep the look cleaner and more familiar than the pill shape that's been rumoured.

Fake.

You heard from me first.
Yup, definitely fake, the shadows and edges around the phone are obvious
[doublepost=1468280373][/doublepost]OMG, did anyone else notice the "camera lens" actually shows the tiled floor?

Terrible fake.

I'm not saying it's not a fake but the lens and the fingers can be explained by the photo being of just the back case of the phone and not a complete phone.

just picked up a used iPod touch (6 gen). I really wish they would make an updated iPhone in that size. It would be perfect for me. The SE is cool - but older touch id and no LTE advanced count it out for me.

So many whiners here on MR.... I love when the "leaks" happen because I get so much entertainment from all those butt hurt about the leak. Problem with Apple trying to put out something new is this:
You have those whining about a camera bump.... but if they made the phone thicker then you'd have those that whine about wanting it as thin as possible (because of the "weight lol)
You have those whining about the antenna bands....... if they didn't have them then you'd have those whining about reception issues (you're holding it wrong)
You have those whining about physical home button.... if they did away with that then you'd have those whining (some on this very thread) about "why do they need a pressure sensitive button"
You have those whining about headphone jack..... Or lack there of..... "But I won't be able to charge and listen at the same time".... Don't you think Apple has figured that out?
You have those whining about the bigger phone getting better upgrades.... forgetting that you can only shove so much into a smaller phone casing.... buy the bigger one if you want the "better" features.
You have those whining about.... well all of those.

I upgrade yearly because I can and I enjoy the phone for what it is and what it does for me. Looks don't really matter to me as it does some.... performance matters. Year after year I get enjoyment out of all the (in the words of mental giant Sara Palin) splody heads keep sploding.... while I simply buy and enjoy my iPhone for the next year until the process starts all over again! Thanks for the good times! Glad the final design isn't out yet because I know I have many many more days of pleasure ahead of me!

A theory on the larger camera lens: it could house a square sensor that would put an end to vertical video. Shoot holding the phone vertically but maintain a horizontal orientation. Choose your crop when sharing.

This kind of video would be made for the web where in line video is how most of us now consume video. Instagram's square aspect ratio and Facebook and Twitter's auto play in the timeline. Playing full screen by turning the iPhone sideways would use the horizontal crop chosen by the content creator.

Another reason for a square video aspect ratio: AppleWatch. If the AppleWatch is to gain a camera at some point (it's inevitable) then it'll have to use all of its small screen, not a tiny 16:9 crop.

The square sensor is an interesting idea that I would probably be for if it came to pass.

However, why is it inevitable that the watch will get a camera? I think that'd be pretty useless and gimmicky. Holding up your wrist for FaceTime or to take selfies seems pretty ridiculous IMO. Apple generally doesn't implement hardware unless it'll be genuinely useful (or popular) neither of which I would expect a camera in a watch to be.

I meant an iSight camera, not one for FaceTime. The best camera is the one you have with you and you'll always have your Watch with you, even if you decide to leave your phone at home (i.e. out for a run, going to the beach, etc). Apple has made a name for itself as the leading camera manufacturer with the iPhone the most widely used camera in the world. iOS 10 reflects that. It's a natural extension to put a camera in the watch which is only going to grow more and more independent of the iPhone and more powerful.

As for a FaceTime camera, it doesn't have to be gimmicky. I wouldn't expect many people to do it for live FaceTime calls since as you pointed out, it's not ideal to hold up your wrist for long periods of time. What you're forgetting is that that's not the only way to send video. Apple has made short video messages a major feature in iMessage. Lifting your wrist to record a quick 5-10 second video and sending it off is perfectly well suited for the Watch's use case.

Fair enough. I respectfully disagree; I don't think any of those use cases are particularly useful. Personally, I wouldn't even bother trying to aim my watch to take photos. I guess we'll see where it goes with time.
