The clack noise is coming from here on mine. Each time I push
When the macbook is heating up, no need to push, the clack occurs

On mine, it's obvious. on yours ?

Yes ever so often when I'm using the machine on the couch or bed there will be a random popping sound from heat expansion. Soft surfaces are superb ways to make your laptop heat up because they retain heat directly under the surface of your machine.

So my 2016 MBP13" non touch bar has been in Apple triage for 3 days. They weren't able to replicate the noises at all despite leaving the thing cold overnight and starting it up in the morning.

I fully expect the issue to still be there when I pick it up, at which point I will give it back.

An annoying noise is one thing, but a definite change in shape that inteferes with the keyboard is another. There's a batch issue here and I don't think they want to admit it/they don't have enough support cases on it yet.

Anyone with this issue, please get it looked at by the Apple Store, then they will have a better picture of which units are affected.

I've got the same issue, just started recently. Ordered the day they came out.

Mine happens under load or after the screen hasn't been moved for a while. I really think its the screen hinges.

I'm having this also when the Macbook is sitting on my lap – I think it's the temperature of the screen heating something up that then expands – if you leave the MacBook off and listen to it for a few hours after it actually sounds like it's contracting also. Super weird.

I don't think it's limited to a single batch. I've had three machines from November, December and February that have had the issue.

One of my machines was also at the Apple Store where they said they couldn't recreate the issue.

Just got my machine back from the Apple store, they replaced the entire top case and it is still doing the popping noise first night back with it. I will be calling tomorrow to get a new computer.

I think this might be a design flaw that affects all machines. Really hoping i just have a lemon but doubt it.

Two is a very small sample size! Actually 1.3 in your case. Could be that it isn't coming from the top case. Most people don't have this issue.

I'm hoping! Don't know what to do to get this issue resolved! Guessing I will call tomorrow. I would love to exchange this one for a new computer so that I could get a later build date model. Any suggestions?

I don't know if the build date has any relation to this. They may try replacing a different part, such as the screen assembly.

Not good. Seems Apple is not sure what is going on. Over 3 threads on the same problem here. 1800+ view, 100+ "Have this too" on Apple Community thread.

Apple is replacing trackpads, casing, screens, speakers and what not. Who knows how many aren't active on technical support forums that are simply going to the Apple store or simply ignoring the issue.

I wonder if they logged the issue into their internal system. It is time they assigned a "Genius" engineer to figure it out.

The genius I had claimed he had no previous knowledge of this issue. No reason to doubt him.
They had it for 4 days, no occurences of problem. I had it for 5 minutes, seems worse than ever! And now the space bar won't press properly.
I wonder if by looking inside (they were convinced of a cooling fan issue) they've made things worse.
Back to the Genius Bar I go, this time I won't accept it back without a proper fix or replacement.

Just got back from the Apple Store, the tech has made a note to replace the display and logic board of the machine. Really hoping this fixes the problems I am having. The tech even ordered the parts to the store in case they don't replace them at the depot. I'll let you know if the issue is fixed when i get the computer back.

This clicking/creaking thing is driving me nuts. If its not a common issue, I think I am going to roll the dice and try and get another. machine.

Try the process of elimination. That creasing sounds, sounds like from the speaker . Try to change the speaker first and will find out.

mine rattles when it is completely powered off. doesn't rattle when it is on or sleeping.

I'm beginning to think the popping noise is temperature related. I just ran the hardware test (hold D from power-on) and the computer popped about 7 times during the test and started to heat up across the top above the touchbar. Once the test completed I immediately restarted and ran the test again and there was no popping noise but the computer was already hot from the previous test. After the second test I restarted and went back to what I was doing and as the laptop started cooling down the pops started again until it was cool. Its almost like something expanding and contracting.

Speaker, try to replace the speaker

Here is mine, sounds louder but the mic is a bit far.
Exactly the same popping I hear from my MBP 15" 2016. At first I thought it was because of a large pad I had under my MBP and ignored it until I read of it being a common problem.

Here is one filmed later on were I triggered it to produce the sound by moving the screen gently rather than waiting for the heat to release the sound. It seems the issue hit some news sites yesterday.

Exact same issue here, I don't have to move it generally, it just warms up and crack every few minutes. Moving the screen can make it do it as well, but there is a dormant period between when it cracks. Eventually it stops after say 5 - 8 times, until there is another off period. Also I notice it on the charger or my LG5k as a charger quicker, meaning it happens very soon after turning it on, or waking it up. Been this way for months.

Nemozini what news sites are you seeing this on, this could help.

Just google "macbook pop", select "news" tab and it is all over.

Took laptop to Apple store today to get it repaired. I'm a bit worried, I think they put the wrong logic board part number on the repair email.

I googled the logic board part number and two 3rd party websites say that this part number comes with the 455 GPU and not the 460. Either the 3rd party website is wrong or Apple messed up.

Call them to make sure.

Oh jeez, definitely call and check.

When I have a repair done I always double check the paperwork for things like this before leaving. It's a shame, the Genius Bar isn't what it was. It's not their fault, just seems to be worse training and staffing these days.
