Looks like the same noise I have. Pretty positive it is coming from the hinge when there is a vibration happening.

Hello there fellows clicker-noise hearing!
I'm joining the crew, since I am often hearing this clicking noise.
At first I thought I was crazy, or my desk was taking fun of me.
Good to see it's a shared problem.
:D

is it a sound like this?

new macbook 13 touch bar
Have a short electric sound in the background
Random
Is also observed in Mac OS X 10.12.3 and 10.12.4 and 10.12.5 and beta 10.12.6...
Very strange
This is a hardware or software problem?
At all so? Tried on other copies? Is this the norm?

P.S. I apologize for the crooked English language... Thank you in advance

Definitely it isn't normal. We believe that is an hardware issue.

mine still have the "clac" when opening, and the "clic" when heating or pushed behind the "MacBook Pro " sign...
and disgusting metallic noise when I tap the wrist rest...coming from the haptic engine ?
did some of you have an exchange for that in A.S. ?
some official recognition of the issue by Apple ?
out from that, my Mac is working like a charm ...what a pity to destroy the perceived quality like that

For those that brought it in to the Genius Bar to get it fixed, do you guys experience the popping/clicking noise still? I've been experiencing this issue since I got it back in March.

Joining this topic. My 13 inch MBP TB model does the same thing. I can easily reproduce the click by having the lid closed for 30 minutes, as the MBP is cooled down then. Open the lid and CLACK! iCentre employee said it looks like it’s the magnet.

Problem is: when I have this model on for a while and the temperature changes (Photoshop, Adobe Audition), it is clicking every now and then.

When I have the MacBook on my lap, I can feel something clicking from the display hinges straight to the left and sometimes right speaker. My MacBook tends to get extremely hot very easily. After 10 minutes on my lap it starts being hot and incredibly slow. The fan is extremly spinning like a vacuum cleaner.

Before I got this faulty replacement model, I had a cool MBP with a faulty keyboard, but no clicking and no temperature problems.

I made an appointment for Tuesday at the Genius Bar. I have to travel 200 km to get there, so better let’s hope for some result.

When did you purchase yours?

I just figured out some more info:

I heated up my MacBook by using the yes-command. My MacBook turned really hot. Then I stopped the command and let it cool down. Without even touching it, my MacBook is still clicking. When I press on some places of the casing, it is clicking too.

So I decided to shake my MacBook. This is the sound I got out of it:

I have no clue what happened with my MacBook. I tested the same things with my brothers MacBook (same model) and it all was good. No clicking, no shaking components. I assume there must have been some screw-up with mine. I treat my MBP like a baby.

I called Apple to at least get mine in as having this problem as well. The tech had me put it into safe mode and it made the noise 3 times while we were on the phone, and he could hear it. Apple is not telling their techs about this issue as he had nothing on his side acknowledging it, and thus no remedy. He did find the 19 page thread about it on the Apple discussions site.

Debating if I should bring my MacBook Pro in to the Genius Bar since I've been experiencing the popping noise for a while now. Not sure if it's my speakers as well but it cracks at random times (even if no music/sound is being played). I'm just worried they're gonna scratch/dent my MacBook Pro lol.

Its a waste of time, no fix is available for whatever the unidentified problem is at the moment

I have an appointment at the Genius Bar tomorrow. Even though I know there is no fix. I think the best thing to do, is to have it swapped. My brothers MBP (same model) is all silent. Mine has a lot of issues with creaking sounds and a sounds that something is loose at the bottom. My MacBook is no fun, now..

If there is a repair for this particular issue, let us know!

Keep us posted! Got the same issue and now my speakers make random blown out noises too.

I went to the Apple Store in Amsterdam. It has costed me THREE (!) hours at the Genius Bar. The Genius immediately acknowledged the problem. He says it is valid problem. So what he did, is calling to the Engineering team in America.

Then, I got told Apple knows about the problem and is investigating this issue. They do NOT know which component causes this issue. Therefore, no repair can be offered. I have asked for a manager because this MacBook was the result of a swap due to a faulty MacBook earlier. He pointed me to the fact the MacBook was bought at Apple’s Online Store and not the store in Amsterdam. Therefore, the product needs to be swapped by Apple Online.

The Genius called Apple Online. I have been sitting there for an hour. He came back, telling me Apple Online doesn’t want to swap or repair it. The statement is:

“Apple is aware of this problem and our Engineering team is investigating this issue. Unfortunately, we can not do anything for you now.”

The Genius has told Apple Online that he wanted to swap it, but the system blocked it. Apple Online doesn’t want to swap and says Apple Store in Amsterdam should swap it.

I decided to call Apple. Dutch law says Apple is REQUIRED to swap the laptop or repair it in a reasonable amount of time. Since they gave no outsight to an end date, this even can last for years, Apple has broken the law. I wanted to decommit the payment. Then I got told by Apple on the phone that Amsterdam and the callcenter employee both have escalated this issue. Within now and 2 working days I will get to know what they will do for me.

If they will not swap, I’ll take the legal actions I stated above. I have nothing to complain about the Geniusses. They have done everything they can. Both Geniusses told me they feel ashamed of the way that Apple has treated me and that they fully take the blame for my unsatisfied feelings. They even recommend me visiting an attorney.

Let’s see what the outcome will be. Apple is updating the case and has made a note that I as a customer am claiming my rights in The Netherlands and am not agreeing on waiting forever.

Sounds nice - Must be a wonderful thing to live in a country with laws that actually attempt to protect citizens from these mega corporations.

Here in the USA, we are basically just pawns to their whims..

I'd figure I'll just wait it out. Doesn't make sense I go to the Genius Bar and they'll probably replace a part that doesn't even need to be replaced.

I've been wanting to sell my MacBook Pro to get an iMac, but not with all these defects going on.

What worked for me. I went in, showed them my video and by pure luck it popped. Got a refund which I used to get the new higher end 15" plus AppleCare+. Hopefully the issues stay with my not so old new computer (RIP2016MBP)

If you are not happy with hour purchase, let the manager know so he can help you out.

When did you purchase your MacBook Pro?

So my 2016 MBP13" non touch bar has been in Apple triage for 3 days. They weren't able to replicate the noises at all despite leaving the thing cold overnight and starting it up in the morning.

I fully expect the issue to still be there when I pick it up, at which point I will give it back.

An annoying noise is one thing, but a definite change in shape that inteferes with the keyboard is another. There's a batch issue here and I don't think they want to admit it/they don't have enough support cases on it yet.

Anyone with this issue, please get it looked at by the Apple Store, then they will have a better picture of which units are affected.

Well it seem lot of people in this thread still are not taking the computer in to the Apple store to find out what the problem is. So it still looks like Apple still does not know what the problem is at all.

We are on page 5 with no no answers from Apple.

People need to take their computer in so Apple can look at it and find out what the problem could be causing it.

If the people find it makes the noise more when holding it on your lap than say the computer desk or table.

Genius bar tech told me he would send my laptop to engineering. Hopefully in the near future they identify the problem.
