Ok...but

This technology isn't even applicable to current peripherals - it will take at least a year for it to become "somewhat mainstream."

Hope this is missleading marketing by apple to exceed the expectations tomorrow.

I can't get it, this new technologie is nice, but I don't need it yet and I probably won't need it in the closer future!

Does this mean we're getting new Cinema displays...err, sorry A new Cinema display...also?

Integrating the Light Peak port into the Display Port is just kind of...weird. I suppose that would mean future Cinema Displays won't need to use a USB port, but it's still just weird. But to that end, I'd rather see a "ThunderBolt" port integrated into the MagSafe as in that patent from a few days ago. Or both, for that matter, since it looks like video data will use a significant chunk of the Light Peak's bandwidth.

Is there any reason they aren't making every port a ThunderBolt? Would there be some patent infringement with making every port a ThunderBolt a USB look-alike?

It's got Harry Potter's broomstick model for a name and it's got the Harry Potter scar for an icon.

Maybe JK Rowling has bought into Apple shares and is now dictating things.

again?

I just don't believe it! IF this is a real image, they must have integrated LightPeak + DisplayPort into one connector so one could use it as standard DP Jack as well. What I just don't want to accept is, that LightPeak was supposed to be integrated into the USB Ports! It would make much more sense!

This picture looks extremely fake! The "aluminum" body looks like a cheap 99 cent bubble gum dispenser item.

this was supposed to be the lightpeak connector!
  • physically compatible with USB-Ports, so save port-space!

now what? How are we gonna get access to fast standard Harddrive enclosures - most don't have Firewire and Apple gives us no eSATA, no USB3. Do they really think that those manufacturers will implement yet another physical port? With a USB-compatible jack they might have but like this? Never!

Plus, Apple could have offered us TWO LightPeak ports + 2 USBx Ports with no extra space!

I won't believe this until it's out - and then I'll shake my head hard!

What I'm not sure of is how these specs got "confirmed" because I'm still hoping they're fake. It just doesn't make sense for lightbeak to come as a new connector rather than a USB-type model. It would not only save space but also make a lot more sense.

I'll still be looking into the new macbooks either way but I really am hoping these specs are wrong.

Agreed!

Gosh I am excited

I am so excited I'm going to wet my pants. I need/want a new MBP soooo bad.

I'm limping along on a very old Dell Latitude D600, which I originally bought about five years ago (used on eBay) to just track my wine collection. Subsequently after moving and leaving a job it is my primary computer.

I do have an aluminum body PowerBook G4 17 inch, which looks new, but the ability of that computer to access my wifi seems quite dim. And I have a very old iMac (bubble) that pretty much just houses my music library (60gig).

I can't wait.

And I'm going to get the new iPad.

At least I am using the iPhone 4 (ATT)

Anyone else find it funny that the front of ESPN.com reads "Griffin Thunderstruck"

I don't find it funny. It was a fun game (I was there), but Griffin and the Clippers did get trounced.

It was nice to have Griffin back in Oklahoma though. He got loud ovations when he was announced and even after he made some awesome shots and dunks.

Not aluminum

Folks, this is not aluminum. Why does the finish look "speckled"? This is a polycarbonate or something else.

Thunderbolt IS the mini displayport!

Guys, the Thunderbolt Port supports BOTH High Speed I/O and Mini DisplayPort.
Read the specs on the photo below (and arn has confirmed it's legit).

Why would Apple use a trade name for a standardized technology? Customers are going to get confused when all the peripherals say "Light Peak compatible" and their Mac has a "Thunderbolt" port. Something strange is happening here.

If correct- I find the name chosen quite...odd.

Apple has done odd things <_<...

iTunes 10 icon
iPad <-- The name itself, I remember people complained about this.

Just two things I can think of. Maybe this name will catch on later in future versions.

The Lightpeak name was much better. Thunderbolt is so awkard, so is the logo..
