Remember the ADC connector Power and video in one cable, I'm guessing new monitors soon that have built in hubs so video and light peak in one cable.

Still would have rather seen it as it was intended in a USB plug.

Can someone please explain why it is that I should want this? Will it be compatible with -any- hardware I currently own, or will I have to buy products that are thunderbolt compatible? The old light peak cord looked like it was interchangeable with usb... is this still the case??

Are you kidding me? It's just the low end 13 inch model.

PLEASE, It's funny how people somehow belive MR's to be true. THis is mac rumors duh.

THere is no way they would put technology in the low-end model, and not in the high-end. It doesn't follow apple's pattern.

People believe this site like it's the bible, when it's more like the apocrapha. :D

This technology isn't even applicable to current peripherals - it will take at least a year for it to become "somewhat mainstream."

So true.

Also, this could become another Apple mediocrity like FireWire. Who still uses FireWire? If I didn't have an ancient iSight plugged in, I'd have NO reason for FW, ever. It's been an antiquity for 3 years now.

Hee. Ever since I read the name, I've had AC/DC singing "Thunderstruck" in my head.

I think the name is hilarious.

Good one! Would make for an awesome product launch.

Dark stage, smoke, Angus steps out with the intro trill to "Thunderstruck", Boom!, full lights, Brian screams "Thunder!" AC/DC runs through the full "Thunderstruck", Brian screeches "Do you want some MacBook Pro?!", louder, "Do you want some MacBook Pro?!"(ala "Dirty Deeds" on Live), introduces Steve...

Man, I gotta get a life. :apple:

Just seems too easy to photoshop to be true for me. All someone would have to do is take a current macbook image, take out the Mini DP logo and put in that lightning bolt. Would take maybe 10-15 minutes to do.

Oh yeah... I also can't help but chuckle at some of the poor folks here who are still clinging to "this photo is fake"... get over it. It's real. Whether you like it or not. Plus, this is only the 13" model. There's still more to come.

Folks, this is not aluminum. Why does the finish look "speckled"? This is a polycarbonate or something else.

That "speckling" effect is just camera noise. There's nothing from the photo alone that suggests a material other than aluminum. You can see the speckle effect yourself if you take a picture of your aluminum notebook under low light, especially if you crop and scale.

Isn't light peak backwards compatible? So who thinks apple will launch these laptops with dongles that turn that port into usb3 until more light peak devices arrive.

I'm pretty sure he was responding to someone unimpressed with the technology in the 13 inch, and saying that of course, the other models will be better-

Thunderbolt?

Someone in marketing should be fired if that's actually the name. Firewire at least sounded nice with the repeated "ire" it rolled off the tongue. I'm not sure I'm buying this one yet. I like the combo adapter, but hope it doesn't go the way of the ADC port.

Im very sceptical, Im no photoshop expert but Im sure it would be really easy to photoshop that symbol onto a picture of an existing MacBook Pro.

Do a closeup of the USB port right next to it!! It's got a weird pin thing in the middle. Any ideas??
