Back in the day (aka few years ago) it was commonplace to see screen bezel's that were 1/2 an inch think and think "wow that's wide!" but now you can see a 1" thick bezel and find it normal.

Given the size of the lid on the 13" macbook pro, they should give it a 14" screen.
I agree 100%. I have a new 13" MBP and love it, but it absolutely should a) have a 14" screen, or b) have a smaller enclosure with a thinner bezel. The ultra wide bezel is completely gratuitous.

Yea, I'd gladly pay for a matte screen. Although I've gotten used to the screen on my new unibody a little, I'd still much rather have a matte.

On the other hand, without the matte vs glossy debates this forum would lose half its activity.:)

This looks like it's work very well......Moshi iVisor Anti-Reflective Screen Protector

I'd have to see the fade around the camera and around the computer logo at the bottom in person to see how that looks. Most other screens like this (PowerSupport and the like) are completely clear so they look like they're not there.

What I really like to see is a review on how much the iVisor affects viewing and colors. For example, does it have as much speckling as the PowerSupport and others... I'd really like to cut the glare, so a product that could do a pretty good job of preserving white's and overall clarity would be very welcome.

I really wish Apple would offer a matte option for the 13" and 15". Nothing to do with "calibration" or "colour accuracy" but just the fact I can't stand reflections when I'm near a window or any sort of light source.

Things do look fancy and sexy on glossy, there's no arguing they don't. But reflections are too much of an eye sore, and while I've learned to live with them, I still really can't stand it.

When I see the old MacBook Pro - all silver, thin silver bezel, it really looked beautiful. It looked like a Mac - simple, nothing that'll distract your eye. Now, the black keys, the black bezel, it's such a big contrast to silver that on a laptop, it doesn't look beautiful. It looks fancy and perfect on an iMac since it has a big chin, but the 24" Cinema Display and the laptops... black bezel has got to go.

What were we talking about again? Oh yeah.. matte display FTW.

I have an Antiglare on my 17" June 2009 MBP... It's incredible. All I have to say is that Apple is appealing to the mass consumer. A laptop is a status item and the average (read: dumb) consumer wants a flashy item to show off to everyone, hence the glossy screen. Personally, I think my MBP looks sexy with the silver bezel and the matte screen no doubt the best option. I would have gotten a 15" MBP but I couldn't stand the glossy... but IMO the matte screen is far better than the glossy.

LISTEN TO US APPLE! I had to purchase a 2700 dollar laptop just to get the matte screen. Please do something about that!

I decided to give the glossy a shot - I just think the black bezel looks way better than the silver. Also, I had to get the MBP 17" as soon as it came out so BTO was out of the question - time constraints.

So for a long time, I was excited about glossy. But now after using it for a few months, and using it mostly outside and in Cafes, I have to say: Matte is better. Period. There is no question, it's a fact.

Unless you are in dark-ish rooms most of the time, glossy is reflective. You don't see the reflections but you have to move the machine, the display, and your head to "see around" the reflections. On a $3000 laptop, that's not acceptable. You can crank up the brightness all the way to help things, but that in turn reduces battery life - so it's not such a great solution, really.

I'm with you. I have the most recent 17" MBP w/matte and LOVE it. I'm not some graphic designer or photo professional, just a guy who hates seeing his reflection in his display when in anything but a dark room.

Yes, I paid $2749 FOR A MATTE SCREEN (okay, among other amazing features...). I love this MBP, but man Apple, at least make it an option on your Macbook PRO machines. Sheesh!

I'm a bit lost on who you're blaming? It was YOUR choice to buy anything you wanted. You didn't HAVE to buy anything. I don't mean to come across as mean spirited but your post is ridiculous to say you HAD to buy a more expensive machine. You had options. :p

I guess he was saying the only matte option offered is the most expensive MBP.

No amount of money will make Apple offer matte in any other MBP model. You want matte? $2749 please. No? Get a Windows laptop then.

Seems crazy. Is matte considered some sort of premiere option or does Apple just like catering to the generic consumer glossy crowd? Guess the SD card slot answered that question.

I didn't read this whole thread. But what is the point of not having a matte option? Is it just like charging more for black over white or does it really cost that much more?

At any rate, to each his own what their preferences are in terms of anti-glare. I don't like matte, don't want it, it actually produces are hard glare on the screen when light light shines on it.

Let me add some fuel to this fire:

Do you guys think Apple would discontinue the BTO Antiglare option on the 17", and if so, would it be best to buy now?
