Guys, any idea what's wrong with my MAC?
I mean, I just got it 3 days ago .. this does not seem very promising for a long lasting experience if the battery after 2 cycles is already at 10% less.. or is this a glitch.PS, my mac is connected via USB-C to another display but then again, it should have come with max capacity.

Can't really be refurbished if its like 30 days young wouldn't you say?

It could be that your battery needs to be calibrated: charge it 100%, discharge it to 0% and recharge it back to 100%.

I hope you are right, thanks a lot for the advice, I checked the first couple of threats and only saw everyone bragging about how over-charged their batteries was so I thought I am the only one :p ..

Btw.. I had the first macbook touch - may I just say I hate the new keyboard :p hahahaha

I hope that too. I have my own doubts with my battery. 95% after 30 cycles...

Oh really? I love it but used to love the butterfly too, except the problems it has.

I feel you brother .. I am pissed at this poor performance and just so you know for reference .. I posted my coconut battery screenshot in Feb .. I mainly run the macbook via external monitor (meaning the GPU is doing heavy work) and my stats from "right now" show horrible results .. not getting nowhere better.. this piece of **** must go into repair by the current outlook starting with September this year!

I had to drain fully twice my battery when I got the Macbook for the battery to be calibrated. In the first time I started coconut it was showing like 96% capacity.
After the recalibration (letting it drain completely and charging back up twice) it got "normal" and now I have a little above design capacity.
I suggest everyone does this and not just leave it always plugged to the charger from the beginning.

My current stats:

Also you can see here how it kinda fluctuates a bit:

what's your battery manufacturer? SIMPLO or DSY? click the battery info button in coconut to see. Also, did you wait after ur mac died before recharging it or did u charge it right away after it ran out of battery?

DSY.
No, I just put max brightness and put some 4K youtube video full screen playing and let it go until I noticed laptop was off, plug charge, let it charge for a few hours, repeat process. Did it 2 times and done :)

Never run your battery down to 0%!
Apple does not recommend calibrating batteries.
While that's true, it was the only way to get my battery to display 100% capacity after buying a new laptop.

A simple idea I posted in another thread after all things considered.

"All things being said, is there a possibility that the batteries that were built for the 16 inch MBPs were actually made several months, if not maybe a year, before they were actually installed into the computers?

As soon as batteries are made, they start to lose their capacity to hold a 100% charge even when not in use. I think I read that a battery not being used can still lose up to 20% of its capacity in a year.

I think this idea might make more sense than anything. As more 16 inchers are sold in the future and deplete battery stock, newer freshly made batteries should start to report charge capacities of 100% or even a little more?"

Bought it the week it got announced.. Have been using it every day, despite days I am on holidays.

Coconut battery displays the same information that can be seen in the Mac's system report so is Coconut really doing anything or is it just displaying information that can already be had by clicking the Apple icon in the corner of the screen? (Apple icon>>about this Mac>>system report>>power)

You do know that this doesn't make your battery any "better" than before, right?
Dude, I have screenshots of the battery before and after I did this.
Whatever you think, to be honest I really don't care.
I am not a battery engineer so I have no idea what it does or does not.
That it "fixed" the OS report correct capacity it did.

I'm at 142 cycles and my battery has dropped a lot.

Down to 83 percent, is this normal?

My very first macbook is from 2004 and I had about 4-5 Macbooks down the line until 2020.
I had 2 macbooks that caused troubles and this MBP16" 2020 model which I spend 4000€ on is one of them.
It randomly turns itself off, the battery is bad, the cycles with original capacity don'T add up .. I hate this one..
For sure if I would buy a second machine it would be all fantastic and great but this one is a piece of ****t

Will I throw it away? no, because I have apple care + (450€) and also pimped it with 64GB RAM, i9 and 1TB HDD so this one is a keeper.. but I am reminded on a daily base how much I hate this machine.Oh and guess what, connected with USB-C to my Acer monitor makes the fan run on 100% at any given moment, just by having a browser open ..

so .. yeah you may claim a new battery but just wanted to blow off some steam on my otherwise flawless experience with macbooks over nearly 2 decades.
