Cold-Display-Unresponsiveness is driving me CRAZY!

MY X's touchscreen is so unresponsive outside at 6° Celsius that it become barely unusable for quickly typing texts on the go. It's definitely only happening outside in the cold, inside everything works great. But I observed it for 3 days in a row now...

Do you guys think it's worth waiting for the possible Update Apple is gonna push out, or would you try to get the unit replaced?

There’s not a lot you can do unless it’s been confirmed to only happen to a chunk of devices. If it’s happening to EVERY ONE I would wait for the update.

Only you can answer that. Apple has already acknowledged they are aware of the issue and will release an update for it. If you can wait or not is what your decision will hinge on. Who’s to say your replacement phone won’t have the same issue

Yeah, I hate this 'gate' suffix. The idea of a watergate is that of a coverup. Not all widespread or even limited reaching problems are a 'gate.' Apple has fully addressed the software issue and that its being addressed in a matter of days. There is no coverup here.

Hyperbole. It's a software issue that will require a patch. No one could have predicted purchasing the iPhone X that this would happen. Apple responded and already Acknowledged the issue. It's not like this entirely bricks the iPhone from being used.

Take it in and see if they'll replace it. If not, you can do the return and repurchase (if they have available stock).

Right now all the warranty replacements should be new.

Heh. It definitely gets cold enough in the bay area this time of year (made the mistake of not packing a jacket one of the first times I visited a cousin living down there years ago) 🙂
But....looking at the forecast, seems their night-time lows may just get within the realm of what we're talking about....people in the bay area likely won't start getting hit with this more often until December.

It was between -10 and -20C the week after I got my X (above 0 C today, yay!) and I have not had any issues with my X in the cold. So then it is really up to you.

This soooo this. There is no coverup of an issue. Apple said we see the issue we can reproduce the issue we will fix the issue with software or new hardware I am sure if that does not fix it. The cover up is on the ir image retention and how that will be fixed with software when it is in fact part of the nature of the display tech used In the device.

The issue is when any problem with an iPhone is found, its automatically considered a "Gate". And then there are Some who start their own "Gate" monikers, which is heavily abused and redundant on a tech forum.

Hope they fix it soon. It happens pretty much whenever I go outside, and it doesn’t need to be extremely cold (it’s 37 F right now). I won’t return the phone over it, but admittedly it’s pretty infuriating.

I experienced this too.
40F outside,.. within 15 or so seconds of being out typing became unresponsive. Shortly after getting into the car the issue went away.

iPhone's reliability, in general, is very poorly in cold. My 6s+ battery would go berserk once the temperature drops to 40F and now my iPhone SE is having the same exact issue. Now seeing this issue convinces me that there is just something wrong with iPhone's internal. I still remember vividly the touch disease issue on the 6 and 6+ which Apple never owned up to its mistake.

Usually when it gets that cold, people stay inside. So...have you used your X for an extended period of time outside? Having it in the pocket keeps it warm too so just have to keep that in mind. The best test, at least for me, is when I put it on a tripod and film my team for a basketball game outside. The phone would go berserk both the screen and the battery.
