Why does how much money someone is willing to pay for a product have any correlation on their intelligence? Sounds like their paint jobs are done correctly and took a lot of skill to get right. If people find value in that, don't knock their intelligence!

Because it's just downright stupid to pay too much for anything. Quality of the product does not improve after the paint job. It might generate some value for the user if it makes him/her feel like he/she looks better now etc. But to double the price for that, come on. Some Jersey Shore **** going on in here.

As you can see, the majority agrees:

#howtowaste$130 Sorry but so many better things one can spend $130 bucks on unless you are rich, but then I guess you probably have money to waste. Though, donating to a charity still seems like it would make more sense for humanity. Just sayin.

I mean - it would also make sense to not buy the airpods at all then, and use a cheaper device than an iPhone, etc. It's ok for people to enjoy some luxury items.

I'm not gonna pay this, but, if Apple comes out with black, that will seriously tempt me to upgrade, even if I don't really need to.

lol They are on something, the price is insanely high. Rather get some skins for less than 15.00.. heck I can spray paint mine for cheaper if need be.

Agreed, but that's missing the point: we're not the client they're going after. AllergyDoc nailed it: "they'll sell a bunch". It's no skin off their backs if someone is willing to pay whatever price they set. Remember Econ 101: a product is priced to what the market will bear. Someone *will* be willing to pay that insanely high price, you can count on that.

Wow, so much hate over an extra $130? You all kill me..I've never understood the frugal-apple crowd.

You'd think Apple would cut in on this and offer colors themselves. Not the same range, but they did with the iMac and iPods. Why not these?

This is a great post. This easily clarifies and backs up Colorware is reputable and knows what they're doing.

If a company like Colorware can execute a task of customizing a product like the Airpods to a specific color not available from The manufacturer and someone finds appeal in this, then I say go for it. Everyone is different and everyone has different appreciations.
Yes... Meanwhile, I tried painting an unused Apple keyboard myself and kinda screwed it up. XD

I'm also great with making sense of things ;)

Are you sure? From my perspective, I don't believe you're masking sense from your current position.

When I receive my painted Airpods back in my possession, I will post a picture for your viewing pleasure.

Unfortunately single star reviews on Amazon are often related to issues which while still valid are customer service and potentially the customer him or herself in nature and less about the quality, functionality or performance of the product. Yes poor customer service should not be ignored but this is a newer company and a new product. I bet if you were able to reduce the ratings to the product and less the issues people complain about whether it be some DOA units or issues with sizing, etc. that the average rating would be higher.

In my experience they are very good.

Id love to know HOW they were able to color them.

I Can only imagine how tedious and time-consuming that would have to be to be able to color such a small device and block off all the ports that could be exposed to paint. It really would have to be a skilled craftsmanship to do this. I can see why they would charge such a large dollar amount.

anyone notice colorware raised the price for these by $10 today??

An explosion, had a idea someone would do it... i expected Apple to though..

Now u can buy Airpods that match your phone, and why shouldn't they be matching ..... just like your iphone case. To have any other color would be ..... well..... just not good.. You gotta have everything matching

You might not call it ColorWare's product, but it is. The AirPods are from Apple, yes, but ColorWave isn't a reseller. The entire reason one would purchase from them, i.e. buy what ColorWave produces, their product, is to get a custom colour. One buys ColorWave disassembly, painting, assembly, and warranty; that's their product.

You wouldn't call an iPhone a Samsung product because many of its components are made by them.

Edit for missing word

I'm sorry, but that's BS. If I bought a Chevy Malibu and had Earl Scheib repaint it purple (that it doesn't come in), that wouldn't make it an Earl Scheib Malibu. Hey guys! I drive an Earl Scheib Malibu! I'm sorry, but that's an absurd notion. If they buy the headphone from Apple, it's an APPLE headphone painted by them. Paint doesn't make it "their" product other than the warranty. Like I said, you could paint it yourself for $10-20 and have loads of leftover paint to do more. Not quite as good? So what. It's a POS headphone anyway and I stand by that statement. You can polish a turd, but it's still a turd.

Just because someone finds value in something that you do not doesn't mean they're dumb, does it?

Ditto! From someone that took apart their original iPhone to paint it black, this is a great service for people interested. For people it doesn't provide value to, what's the rub? Keep your current earbuds or keep the AirPods white.
