I pity the fool who pays that much for crappy headphones they don’t even stay in your ears. **** battery life too.
Actually their not bad at all. I purchased one last year as a gift to myself and they work great. I binge watch movies all the time with AirPods on. The only issue that I have is that Apple only have them in white. Would like to see different colors..

And will they turn that cool vintage white color over time?

Right. I put my AirPod case in my pocket the other day not thinking it was the same pocket my keys were in and now there are a ton of scratches all over the case :(

It happens. Fortunately, AirPods are one resiliently made product and they’ve survived numerous drops! I’m going on 2 years of owning mine and they’ve performed wonderfully, in spite of my blunders.

With enough ear wax, surely!

ColorWare this week released custom-painted AirPods with a classic Macintosh design, including a beige finish with faux vents and a six-color rainbow pairing button reminiscent of Apple's logo between 1977 and 1998.

The limited edition AirPods Retro, as they are called, are inspired by the Apple IIe, which actually predates the original Macintosh by a year, but the computers shared a similar design with an iconic Pantone 453 finish.

ColorWare purchases the AirPods directly from Apple, applies the custom paint job to both the AirPods and their charging case, and then repackages them in Apple's original box with a Lightning to USB cable and documentation.

The company doesn't currently offer after-the-fact customization of used AirPods, so if you already own a pair, you're out of luck.

While the AirPods Retro have a unique design, they come at a steep cost of $399, more than double Apple's standard $159 price. Also be prepared to wait a bit, as shipping is estimated to take 3-4 weeks depending on the destination.

Keep in mind that Apple is expected to release second-generation AirPods with "Hey Siri" support at its usual September event, alongside new iPhones and its AirPower charging mat, so it may be best to hold off on these.

ColorWare also sells AirPods in limited edition Space Gray for $349 and dozens of other colors for $299. Prices are based on U.S. dollars.

[doublepost=1530910764][/doublepost]I'm pretty sure you are remembering the color of the Apple ][c. The ][e was still that old dirty looking beige they used on the original 128k Mac.

same here, they hold up quite well so far. only i just own them for one year (btw. they have only been available since 1 1/2 years). i hope, they at least hold on for another 3 years to justify the high price. sadly the hinge has already gotten a little looser, and i could do without the case’s magnets accumulating tiny shards of metal all the time. doesn‘t look too good, but that‘s probably inevitable.

Agreed. I do like my AirPods but whats the use of having "hey Siri" in the AirPods? I mean when Im using my AirPods Im always close to my phone, watch, iPad or MacBook. All of which work with Hey Siri. So what do I need my AirPods to do it too?

I purchased a pair of colorware gloss black airpods and have had them for 3 months. The paint has already started to chip off, when I contacted colorware they would not stand by the quality of their product and blamed the chipping on the cleanliness, just a FYI for anyone thinking about purchasing from this company

All of their work is pretty awesome looking, but I can’t bring myself to actually pay for any of it.

That was always my problem with Colorware. I spent a whole January up here craving a taxi-yellow iPod for the idea of tropical heat during an especially brutal winter. But the add on cost was too much.

I wouldn't mind Colorware custom colors on Airpods though, I'd find a neon green one pretty fast if I dropped it. "But the money..."

Agreed. I just might for Nintendo Switch I’m considering.

There is a men’s “change pocket” that can get new use ;)

It’s $159 for the AirPods. $240 for the paint job.

I love this, but $240 is crazy.

Look at AirPod hardware competition and then look at the variety of colours across that competition. Then look at airpods. The consumer would be getting best of both worlds.

Pay more for a paint job than the product? You deserve to be hosed.

Their doing quite well. Apple should be hosed for not offering colour alternatives. Apple long stopped celebrating the individual its the common puzzle that fits the status quo their after.
The paint job offers the precise application without affecting any sensors. The competition in this space cannot do that. I bought 2 AirPods in te last 2wks and I can tell you I’m overjoyed yet if delivery was 2wks heck maybe 4wka top in N. America I’d have paid the extra $$!

P.T. Barnum was correct.

P.T. Barnum was correct.

https://m.ranker.com/list/facts-about-pt-barnum/nicky-benson

Many have credited Barnum with coining the phrase, "There's a sucker born every minute," due to his ability to trick people into believing his outrageous acts, but there's no evidence that he said it.

Barnum told newspaper reporters in New York City that banker and horse trader David Hannum made the comment after Barnum created a wax model of Hannum's Cardiff Giant (which happened to be a fake). People turned up in droves to see Barnum's giant, and Barnum claimed Hannum's giant was the fake one. Then it was revealed that the original Cardiff Giant really was fake. Hannum sued Barnum for slander, but a judge ruled that calling something fake, when it is in fact fake, is not slander.

Exactly!
What I don't understand is why Apple aren't doing this themselves? They could charge a very small premium for special edition AirPods such as this classic Mac edition.
Apple could also release limited edition AirPod designs on an annual basis. These could then become collectors items. I'm sure there are people out there who collect rare tech items. I know there are people out there who have iPod Nano collections.

Apple should have an array of different colors and designs, considering that AirPods can be considered a fashion accessory on top of it being a pair of headphones. And they need to be sold at the regular price as many consumers expect.
It would also make AirPods more popular or at least get people looking at the product with curiosity. I'm fairly certain more people would be willing to purchase a set of AirPods if they found one that they felt looked cool or suited their look/image. Simply having only one option, white, goes against everything we know in the consumer world. Cars, clothes, watches etc all come in multiple colors and styles for a reason.

Rather than Apple purely focus on high end products to earn them their money they could also focus on lower end products which could earn them a lot more money.

I'm still waiting for Apple to release AirPods in space grey or black. I'd happily buy a pair for gym, another pair for work and another pair purely for travel. But until they do, my money stays in my bank account.

I feel like you might be trolling but anyway: Try the AirPods, and let us know what you think then. They might exceed your expectations. (Naïvely, I have assumed you haven't tried them yet, apologies if you have.)

Just to be clear — the IIe is not Pantone 453 — only the original Mac 128k through the early Plus models were that color beige. The IIe later had a Platinum gray version which unified the entire Apple/Mac line, but the original IIe retained the same beige color as the Apple II line, not including the IIc which was in a light cream color Apple called Fog.

It’s more than a bit steep whether new AirPods are on the way or not.
It’s more than double a pair of AirPods.
Once Apple’s name is attached, for third party vendors, the sky’s the limit.
They are out of their freakin minds.
They can't be "out of" something if they never had it to begin with...
