Totally agree. I can't stress this enough. If you want to check his updates, fine. Keep his page open and refresh every now and then. But DON'T follow him. If we make his troll campaign successful, it will just encourage others to do the same thing!

That seems to be the general consensus - incredibly freak'n smart, undoubtedly. Seems very childish - thought I don't know him, obviously. Just not sure how the quote below can be viewed anything other than that of someone who is ... um... yeah.
Nonetheless, people are really sensitive about hating or loving him for some reason. Oh well - the wait continues

Or, like anyone wanting to brag, he just got a screen shot of the Cydia app and loaded it on his iPhone 4.
Once again, until the jailbreak is released, I don't believe anyone has successfully done it.

I'm keen to see the JB as much as anyone in this thread but c'mon....the majority of apps *still* aren't iOS4 compatible and by the looks of it a lot of devs can't even be bothered to make them so....
When JB finally arrived all we're going to have is another 15 pages of 'why does this not work' ffs.....

3Gunrestrictor, SBSettings, and that's about it.

that would be a very good explanation - all the people I know that have aspergers fit this mold. I seriously have no questions about why he was removed from the dev team... would be hell on earth to work with that dude.

I'm not really defending him, but the hour, carrier/no sim and the rest of the stuff on the screen is different from the posted pics from the devteam and he also said he had already an exploit or something and the pic is pretty clear, not a 4x distortion from the previous iPhones, whatever I'm just subscribed to his RSS feed in case of any news

its the same jailbreak he had since march. and he proved that with a video.
Oh, come on. If Geohot says he's jailbroken his iPhone 4, there's absolutely no reason to doubt him. He's proved he has an exploit, and there's no reason to think he couldn't manually jailbreak his phone in a day. It's not like he had to write a whole app -- just update his scripts with the new versions of Cydia, etc.
Its all ego, dont put this on aspergers...I use to be in the engineering program and they are all incredibly smart, but most of them thought they were hot **** and were so cocky its a shock that I didnt punch any of them...this is ego and nothing more

No, Geohot is pointing out that his new exploit is unlike the one that has long been used for the iPhone 2G, which, because it is hardware-based, cannot be patched by Apple. Someone's been saying/implying that Geohot's new exploit is of that type. He's just clarifying that he never said "pwned for life" in the context of his new exploit and that, like the 24Kpwn used on the 3GS < 3.1.3, Apple can patch his exploit with a firmware update.

Im not sure its a "books smart" vs "common sense" thing - I think its a "at least try not to be pretentious" thing - though I see your point.

Just knowing there is a jailbreak while Apple plays around with their reception bars makes me smile.
How long does it take to adjust simulation bars? They can't change the antenna locations so must be some other adjustment. Not likely to change the left finger of death.
