90s yeah! I started collecting a year before Image was founded so got LOTS of #1 and #0s :D (not sure if some series exceeded that though). So that was day and night compared to my Amazing Spider-Man etc. stuff. Good times! Although I recently saw a funny Rob Liefeld's worst 40 drawings
page, I really dug him back than but that just looks hilarious.
Probably you can imagine when I came back this summer, after ~15 years, I was quite surprised that Image is (a very interesting!) leftover..pulling Lazarus right now from them. Nice series!

@Happybunny, I stand corrected: The Wake is published by Vertigo. Since it is a 10 issues mini series you can probably wait some more (think #5 is just released) and have a comfotable glance at the paperback later. They should make a movie out of that!

Anyone knows American Vampire btw?

Image has become one of the mainstays in comic books, they now have some of the most interesting new titles. Afar cry from their T&A starting, but they got there.

For Wake, I will wait for the TPB.

American Vampire is a great series it's like an American history lesson, but seen through the eyes of Vampires. It starts in the old west and moves through to modern times.
If you like Vampires & history it's great.

I really liked American Vampire. Have been reading it since it started. however I have not picked up any of the books in about six months or more. I agree with Happybunny, good story and pretty cool "history" lesson if you will through the eyes of a vampire. I really liked the roaring 20's through the 40's if you will story line.

I think I wounder why I haven't been reading any, I just looked at the wiki page (couldn't remember the name of the five part mini series I really liked "Lords of nightmares") the book sounds like it is on hiatus.

Anybody ever read the Purgatori by chaos comics?

I fluctuate depending on character and art

I'm a Marvel girl by and large, beyond a Dark Horse Star Wars title. I am really disappointed in DC's handling of Green Arrow (the current team is good, but I do not like their villains or nu52 Ollie for that matter.)

Prices make it easy for me hold off especially when the writing, art and characterization fall flat.

Series I will buy regardless:

Dark Horse: Star Wars Dawn of the Jedi (Can't wait for book 3. John and Jan are the best. And Daegen Lok is now my all time favorite SW character.)

Series I am trying:

Marvel's next Punisher series starting in Feb 2014 (wish Greg Rucka and Marco Checchetto were not pushed out, but I am willing to give the new team a shot.)

If some of Bendis and Aaron's Future X-Men from the current Battle of the Atom event (okay, Wizard Iceman) wind up in a new book, I will definitely buy that.

Outside of this, money is super tight. So with all of the decompression and crap art lately, I can't afford to buy many single or collected series these days.

That said, if Marvel does something cool with Moon Knight, I'm all over it.

You here, too? Good! :D

Agreed re Green Arrow, if I wouldn't like Sorrentino as much as I do I'd just skip it. Don't know why Marvel appears always more attractive to me, must be early socialization.

If you like Rucka, you should keep an eye on Image's Lazarus! Quite nice and really badass, four issues into it and I don't regret it. Was surprised when they told me that there is no Punisher series running right now, but good to hear that they start 2014 again. Hope Trial of the Punisher is any good, though. Should receive my issue tomorrow..

I gave up on the Punisher when I read the story line of "Circle of Blood". Was not impressed when we started to see all the clones (hope that is the correct title).

Curious to find out what you think of Trial of the Punisher.

Greg has a wonderful way with strong female leads/character and I love Michael Lark (I own two pages from Lark's Winter Soldier issue 6), but for some reason when I read Lazarus it just did not click for me. Perhaps that is due to my preference for male protagonists, and in comics, I like the tried and true (superheroes ) I am glad you like it and that it seems to be doing quite well.

I am particularly picky with comics (esp. given the price point now), but I am curious to see what comes down the pike. Like you, I think my early exposure to Marvel is why I prefer their work in the big two.

But I will definitely keep giving Green Arrow a chance whenever a new team comes on board.

I gave up on the Punisher when I read the story line of "Circle of Blood". Was not impressed when we started to see all the clones (hope that is the correct title).

Many long time Punisher fans feel that way. I'm a noob which is strange
given my enjoyment of characters like the Punisher, I could never quite grok him until the last series by Greg Rucka and Marco Checchetto. That Marvel is even giving the character another shot at a series right now is somewhat surprising. And it's not Avengers or X-Men which is another reason why I am on board.

Yeah, what's that with literally 20+ Avengers / X series?! So annoying!

I wonder what you think about The Wake. Some Lovecraft type of story should suit you I guess. :)

Btw currently reading Knightfall Vol 2, never been into Batman during the 90s strangely, but this trilogy is 90s pulp at its best. I can remember the covers though.

Manga mostly.

What to read? Well, stick to the genres you like in TV or movies and you'll love it.

For me,
One piece, Naruto, Inuyasha are great.

That manga has become so corny these past few weeks. I've been upset at the downward spiral that its been on :(

I think any person from that era has at lest one box of Image comics.
They took the comic world by storm and hype in the days. I also remember the variant covers, it got so out of hand some titles had 14 different covers for one issue.

Harking back to that era, the high point of stupidity, were the Museum Editions comic books hat cost $100 each.

http://www.heroesassemble.com/museum-edition-comics-63-c.asp

I was in high school when Lee, McFarland, Silvestri, et al. bailed out of Marvel and started Image. It's weird as bad as some of it was, I still love it, the original StormWatch, Cyberforce, hell, with Cyberforce I actually got involved with the recent relaunch via Kickstarter.

Amusingly that's what got me into art, and just a few years ago I got to become friends with one of the artists I idolized as a little girl (Eric Canete).

Oh lord... the Museum Editions -.-

Oh and here's something I love about the digital era, I'm not sure if anyone else who has the Hellboy trades, has the same problem as I do. Mine are literally falling apart, it's like they used the worst kind of binding adhesive known to man. I contacted them and got a "sorry about your luck" response. So yeah, scanned ALL the pages and have them on my iPad as PDFs.

Had a similar problem with a trade of Angelus from Top Cow, emailed them, and they were extremely nice, got a new copy of the Angelus trade, they also let me pick up a couple other trades, free of cost (got a couple Witchblades, because OMG Stjepan Sejic's work is godlike).

Yeah, I'm like a huge X-Men fangirl but even this is too much. I get that the whole thing after AvsX was supposed to be "the end of hero in fighting" but we don't need 30 combined Avengers and X-Men books. Hell, we definitely do not need 2 X-Force books.

With that said, I'm loving Brian Woods' X-Men. It's a wholly female team lead by Storm. It's up there with Fearless Defenders, Guardians of the Galaxy and Thunderbolts as my favorite Marvel books.

I've been hearing good things about The Wake, I've been pondering picking it up.

I've recently fallen in love with a new book called Rat Queens, it's turning out to be a fun medieval fantasy romp.

Chaos Comics.

I do have a few copies of Purgatori, but for me it was always Chastity, I have more than my share of variant covers, and lunch boxes plus a T shirt.

We it's true we always have a special place in our hearts for the first of anything. For me that's early Warren/Harris issues of Vampirella.

Image certainly were far more than just hype, they did show the world that you could set up a main stream comic book company, out side the big two. Until they tried it and succeeded, independent comic book publishers were in the art/niche/alto worlds.

Image also made the splash page very popular, and here in the Netherlands they brought in a whole new generation of readers.

I still like Danger Girl and Darkchylde from that era.

I really do like your idea of scanning and preserving via your iPad.

As to Museum Editions I have only one, Strangers in Paradise, Terry Moore's personal copy.

JEALOUS. I have one of my trades autographed and a sketch of Katchoo by Mr Moore.

I'll be honest, I'm glad Image as a whole survived. They've evolved into probably the best company when it comes to genre and and creator diversity. If you told 14 year old me that the Image that just founded then, would become what it is today, I'd have laughed. Tho, I'll admit, of the original Image era, I loved Wetworks, Cybernary and Cyberforce.

The one thing recently that amazed me, was Joe Keatinge and Ross Campbell's reinvention of Glory, but for full disclosure, I'll by anything Ross draws.

I wish Alan Moore had been able to complete his Youngblood run, that was turning out to be awesome.

Moore did Youngblood!?!

Still thinking of somewhat completing all these Image series I started but had no money to keep up with - just too many back then! Stormwatch, Wildchild, Witchblade, Deathblow, Team 7, Boof (anyone remembers that one? lol), Gen13, Shadowhawk, Bloodstrike, Brigade etc. pp. and of course Wetworks (which was a running gag back in the days since it seemed to get delayed into oblivion for no reason - now, with the good ol' internet and all we'd have known that it was because of private reasons of Whilce Portacio).

I just recently saw that The Savage Dragon is still running! Was a favorite of mine and always liked Larsen - anyone can recommend it? Saw that they just restared it with his son as the main protagonist, which turned me down somehow.

I have various pieces of original artwork from Terry Moore. Among which the Cover 69 from Strangers in Paradise.(Casey as Showgirl in Las Vegas)

I also have this.

The Cover of "WannaBlessedBe"

He did a sketch in every one of my HC of Strangers in Paradise, I got in the end the whole gang,
Katchoo Francine David Casey Tambi Veronica Freddie.

Terry Moore is one of the nice guys of the comic world.:)

As for Youngblood.

Oh yes you are again so right, how could I have forgotten that, Alan Moore is one of the true greats in comic books. He really did help to bring a more mature readership to those early Image days.

True, but it did get better with the Shinju story arc. I still cringe when I am Talk no-jutsu'd... just get to the point and also stop it with the flashback-genjutsu

This arc should in theory be the best arc ever. Instead we are treated to multiple panels of friendship power. :p

Yeah, sadly, Moore's run on Youngblood lasted only two issues before the title went back into Limbo.

Savage Dragon is indeed still running, as to whether it's worth the read, it depends on your politics. Larsen's gotten pretty heavy handed with his political beliefs and honestly, even as a very liberal person like myself, it gets exhausting. There are times where I'm reading it and I'm like "Yeah, I get it, you're a bleeding heart too, can we get back to the superhero stuff?"

Hmm. Thanks for pointing that out. Best to leave it in the (glorious) past then. Sad, really. Larsen's Spidey was one of my favorite. :(

I was reading a bit upon Shadowhawk today and learned that he was HIV positive, just like Chapel - one of the most badass Image characters back then imho. Didn't know that aspect about both of 'em. Would like to know if Image created the first HIV positive superhero of all time, and actually two of them. Like it.

Yeah, the original Shadowhawk was the first HIV positive superhero, altho Jim Wilson (nephew of Falcon and sidekick of The Hulk) was the first comic book regular character to be HIV+ (and later AIDS).

Gods, I remember the rage people had when Green Arrow's sidekick Speedy (Mia Dearden) was diagnosed as HIV+.

My comic book days were brief and quite a while ago, but I did read a lot of X-Men, particularly the Chris Claremont era.

I've also never gotten into manga/anime, but I haven't seen anyone yet mention FullMetal Alchemist. Holy crap people! I discovered the first anime on Netflix, and I was really impressed. Then I watched FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (which explicitly follows the manga), and my mind was blown thousands of times over. EVERYONE needs to watch that series or at least read the manga.

I know there's probably a lot of sub vs dub purists, but I found the English dub (both anime series use mostly the same actors) to be very well done. I can't say the same for the subbed version of Brotherhood I watched.

FMA and FMA:B is good. I don't care subs vs. dubs. Normally I watch dubs because I'm lazy and don't want to read. Sometimes with subs if there's too much talking going on you almost can't see the animation since you're stuck in the text. If I could understand Japanese I'd probably go with the subs though.

I first noticed Marc's artwork back in 1997 when he did the covers for Vampirella. Yes you are completely right defiantly NSFW.
I also noticed that you mentioned that it was based on your own original character, do you write or publish anything?

I would like to give people the heads up.

Neil Gaiman's new comic book starts 30 October. The Sandman Overture anything containing the words Gaiman and Sandman has got my attention.

I also would like to plug.

Set in modern NYC, it's a thriller with sinister DNS manipulations, a small cast of characters. Great artwork and fantastic story. The first story arc is just ending next month.

I don't want to brag about my own collection of original artwork

Who am I kidding of course I DO.:D

The Casey cover

The main artwork the other piece is sketch that Terry did as a tryout for Casey's costume, plus the comic cover.

In each of the HC from Strangers in Paradise Terry would do a sketch. My favourite couple Tambi & Casey.

I used to post on an early Strangers in Paradise Forum also under the name happybunny, As I was one of the first readers who like Casey as a character. He did this sketch.I also used to use this a lot on that forum.

Marvel is going the movie route....so that's why I was encouraged to see another attempt at a Punisher series: no movies on the horizon and it's a character outside of those two teams. I still enjoy the X-Men and Thor to an extent (depends on the stories and the art.)

I haven't read the Wake yet. I might look into it used once it is collected. Heard good things about it.

*coughs* sorry about that.

Seriously, I'm jealous as hell. As to your question, I'm an artist, tho outside of a few pinups a long time ago for Antarctic Press and some coloring for Dark Horse, I've stuck to the toy and packaging side of the comic industry.

I am working on a webcomic at the moment, and hoping to have it started around the first of the year.

I should be allowed to link the image in question without getting in trouble, yes?

The original idea was going to be an LGBT oriented Sci-Fi story, but it's gone through a bit of change (with a fair bit of help from Marc). Now, I'm not sure what to call it, Sci-Fantasy? Is that a thing?
