One downside to a phone this length is when morons take video and don't turn their phones landscape. We are going to have a lot of people posting and denting some really long and narrow videos. It's bad enough with the current iPhone and on the 5 it'll be that much worse. Hopefully this will get people to rotate their phones when filming video.
This elongated phone is starting to grow on me...but one thing I just don't get.
Why make an elongated phone longer by putting the front facing camera above the top receiver??

4S shoots 16:9 video whether held landscape or portrait. Very unlikely that this will change in iPhone 5 as 16:9 is an industry standard. A plus of the new (rumoured) screen resolution is that the aspect ratio will match the video aspect ratio (both 16:9) so the black bars seen on the 4S (screen aspect ratio 3:2) will be gone. I agree that shooting portrait and then displaying on a screen wider than it is tall (like a tv) isn't a great idea, but I don't think it will be any worse with the iPhone 5 than it is with the 4S (let's say it will be equally bad!)
Probably only a few people at Apple know for sure, but remember that there are the proximity and ambient light sensors in that bit of the phone too. Perhaps they are in line with the speaker and that doesn't leave room for the camera, or perhaps it has to do with the underlying internals. Whatever, the bezel is reduced and making it much smaller probably wouldn't be a good idea, at least if you ever want to hold the phone in landscape and rest your thumbs either side of the screen.
That looks like it could be a possible case. Plastic back to cover the whole back and bumper look on the sides.
I bet you will see cases like this...

That's the sweetest rendering I've seen. I wonder how it would look in white? White is hot!
Don't worry. It's flat on both sides so no one else will think its a good idea. Personally it prefer the long screen rather then a longer/wider screen.
why do all the renderings have a 4x5 layout though? Like all that extra screen, and all you do is add an extra row? No more columns? Makes sense to have at least 5x5...
Thought this deserved a bump. I was just looking through the roundup and wanted to find this. Looking at these again, particularly the gun metal, is getting me excited for Wednesday. I REALLY hope they do the gun metal/all black. Love it. I don't want to see any silver/chrome on it.
