Today I setup a Huawei P30 lite for my mother and I was totally flashed. A 250€ device that ships with dual sim, 128GB flash storage, OLED and USB-C port. With swipe gestures enabled there is nearly no difference to iOS navigation. It has a brilliant display/camera and it feels rather lightweight in comparison to my current iPhoneX which bothers me with bugs, bugs and more bugs. And there is no Notch (just a very small cutout)!

- In the year 12 after first iPhone release iOS is still not capable of OOB (Bluetooth/Smart) except when pairing with other Apple devices like Apple TV.
- As a developer I have to bang my head against artificial Apple walls every day.
- There is still no way to select a music title I own for a ringtone (or just a short sequence of a music title).
- There is still no USB-C port on even the latest iPhone models.

For all of this you have to pay a heavy price. Think a P30 Pro is going to be my next Phone and I'm starting to understand Donald Trump since Huawei would wipe the floor with Apple if Trump doesn't stop Huawei by banning it (and if not already this year, then maybe the next year).

I have Mate 20 Pro has similar iOS interface but no bugs as such, very very fast in starting, loading, relaunching etc!

In iOS, copying the URL is becoming an issue(could not find select all option in the long press).

Assistive touch implementation is far superior where EMUI allows us rubber bands like gestures (up, down, right, left, long press, double tap)at App level Navigation (example: you can touch once to go back in any app)...I almost paid same money year back to get M20P that I paid for iPhone 11 128. To me iOS needs lots of catch up

I’ve had this issue and have been reporting it since the first bloody beta. Lots of people on the iosbeta sub are also experiencing this same issue.

I CANNOT believe apple released 13.2 with that garbage memory management in play, it’s not like they weren’t aware! Sheesh Apple.

Apple is about quantity and not quality these days.

Seems like with the exception of dark mode, iOS 13 is a big regression. I used to be able to click a photo, exit the photos app, then re-enter the photos app with the same photo I was on, but now when I re-enter the app, it takes me to "Albums." Also, I really hate the new cursor experience on iOS 13. Apple removed the magnifying glass, and now when I try to put the cursor in between words, it just selects multiple words and won't let me put the cursor where I want it. It's a big step backward. There was nothing wrong with how the cursor worked in all previous version of iOS. Why did they have to go and break it?

The cursor behavior is different now. You need to do a quick tap to place the cursor roughly in position. If you want to drag the cursor to fine tune the position, you need to tap directly on the cursor and drag it into position. The old tap-and-hold-anywhere to get the magnifier is gone.

How does post #380 change anything?

Your prior post that I replied to recommended that people complain to the app developers. Apple is the app developer for Safari.

Again, if Safari is restoring state, it's doing so incorrectly or incompletely. Try filling out a form. Its values get lost.

Do you think this is an appropriate way to have a conversation with strangers?

Lucky. I wish I had known before I updated. I’d have stayed back on the previous version.

Now, as an overall critique of Apple atm, I will say that it didn’t use to be like this. I‘ve always recommended updating immediately and have never had issues. In 20 years of Apple products this has been the case for me.
I feel like upgrading early has always been a rocky decision to make, although certainly some releases have come out the gates much more stable than others. But I do agree it feels as though Apple is trending downward in terms of the out-the-gate stability of their products, and this last round of updates has been particularly bad with bugs. This is the first time I've been so keen to hold off over an extended period of time in committing to Apple updates and I've been using their products since the Centris 610.

In my opinion, this has become a serious problem which needs to be addressed. Stability and dependability are my primary reasons for using Apple products for my work.

wanna more battery life? here you go
This is not the same thing. And take note that this is a problem which has apparently cropped up in the most recent release to iOS 13, not iOS 13 itself. iOS actually has an extremely resource-efficient system for "multitasking" and it has been efficient and capable with memory for quite some time now. If what people are reporting is indeed the case (I've held off on the update in light of this news) it is a regression, not a "feature" in terms of improving battery life.

Trending downward? I don't know. It always seems like Macrumors has no shortage of problems to report, and people willing to threaten quitting Apple over them. Just look at this list. I remember so many of these. (I guess people, generally, don't?) Software is buggy, and some people are lucky enough for the bugs not to impact them.

But… honestly, I just people are upset and want to vent, and they'll forget/reframe the entire history of software development just so they can vent without pause.

I’m starting to suspect this is not a bug, but an “enhancement”. Memory management may start becoming more aggressive in iOS/iPadOS.
I just think the timeout is too short; it used to be about 10 minutes for background tasks. And apps dormant in the background wouldn’t be expunged from memory unless it was necessary.
Developers may need to update their apps to bypass this new behavior.
AppDelegate.swift provides the required delegates that can be used to save the app’s current state and be able to restore it when the app becomes active again.

What surprises me is that not even Safari has implemented this.
So is it that Apple rushed into enabling this, or their apps may catch later on with a new update?
We may know sooner or later.

Either way, I would say it’s not going to be the end of the world as we initially thought.

A growing number of iPhone and iPad users have complained about poor RAM management on iOS 13 and iPadOS 13, leading to apps like Safari, YouTube, and Overcast reloading more frequently upon being reopened. We've lightly edited some of the comments to correct things like capitalization.

I deeply regret upgrading to ios 13. It is so buggy. My Microsoft Outlook worked quickly in my iPad Pro 9.7. Now, it is slow as a pig.. Sad!

People love to say Apple doesn’t use enough RAM, a software bug does not make those unfounded claims to be true overnight. All tests ever show that Apple phones are the fastest around by far and RAM management isn’t usually an issue. So what if it’s true, people are having issues, it’s software and will be corrected. Not a huge deal.

So because so many people are accusing people who have problems of making them up, or having some idiotic “hatred” of Apple, and we know that more ram would only help, I ran a test. I have most of my old iPhones still, never sold them, my iPhone 7+ is on 13.2 along with my 11 pro max. I closed all apps and then opened about 20 on each phone, same exact apps, including mail, YouTube, Instagram, Safari, etc. I opened and closed all of them, then went through all apps again and again. The iPhone 7+ kept all apps open exactly in the same spot, no reloading or anything, kept Instagram and YouTube right where I left off. The iPhone pro however had to reload a few apps, not all, just a few. Now here’s where the iPhone pro failed miserably, I opened the camera app on both phones, took one picture, closed the camera app, and then swiped through my open apps to the beginning. On the 7 every app was open where I left off, not one app had to reload, not so on the 11 pro, it kept a few apps open, that’s it, Instagram, Safari, Mail, and YouTube all lost their places and had to reload the app from scratch. So the fanboys here couldn’t be more wrong, as usual.

I also take issue with people claiming this is a 13.2 bug as this happened on every iteration of iOS 13. I think more people have noticed it now because of this article. I don’t have iOS 13 installed on my other phones so I haven’t been able to test them, but you’d think the new iPhone 11 “pro” could multitask better than a 3 year old iPhone 7.

I do hope there’s something Apple can do in an update to improve this, but it will take a hell of a lot of evidence to convince me this isn’t a hardware issue in the new phones. Sticking with 4gb of ram is clearly not enough for the latest phones and it seems to Be affected the most when you take a picture, maybe something to do with the 3 camera system and all the voodoo going on with them. This phone should have had 6gb of ram at minimum, Apple screwed the pooch on this one.

Don’t.

I use Safari heavily. I normally have four to five tabs open and 13.1.3 did not exhibit the behavior of reloading tabs in 13.2. I tested this extensively, by going back and forth between the two versions during beta testing.

I couldn’t force a reload with 13.1.3. With 13.2 it was easily done with just two tabs open. This was either introduced during beta 2 or 3. Definitely 3. I provided several entries of feedback and even provided a video demonstrating the behavior, with nothing else in the app switcher.

I've been having this issue on my iPhone SE and my iPad as well. I wasn't sure if it was app developers getting more aggressive with the refreshes (Facebook is notorious for this, since it keeps you scrolling and viewing ads), but it definitely seems to be an iOS- and iPad OS-wide issue.

I posted earlier no issues with iPhone X. I upgraded to an iPhone 11 Pro Max and no issues either.

I spoke to a very nice Apple representative yesterday, who actually took the time to test this on their Xs Max while we were on the phone. She was able to confirm it happened to her as well. She then transferred me to a senior adviser who said he would forward my report to engineering. I’m sure they have received other reports as well.

Forbes gave this new iOS 13 gripe good exposure today. Shareholders read Forbes, so I'm pretty sure Tim Cook will have Apple respond to this annoying issue soon.
