More RAM is always welcomed (within limits), but in this specific case I suspect even 6 Giga wouldn’t be enough, because there is something wrong In iOS behavior.

There wont be any.
The best you can expect is a 13.2.1 fix with release notes.
in a few days.

Correct.
8GB of RAM and a bug fix would be great.

That article is only a little melodramatic.

It’s is somewhat, but he’s not wrong at the core issue level. Particularly when you consider the iPad Pro and how Apple keeps insisting it can perform as a laptop replacement (which to be fair, it actually has been doing quite well for me up until now). But a laptop replacement which can’t even perform rudimentary multitasking at the moment, bad form to say the least no certainly not a viable laptop replacement.

Yes it’s a bug and yes it’ll be fixed (one would hope) but for a company as large as Apple, with the vast resources they have, it’s a bug which should never have made it into a release. I say that as someone with quite a bit of experience in that capacity, it’s an issue I’d have never allowed through. So you’d imagine someone at Apple would be the same, so unless this is intentional (highly unlikely), just how the hell did it happen.

Having said that, all of their releases since iOS 13 have been a hot mess in one way or another. Personally, I’d be kicking some arses and showing some people the door, but then I’m old school, we didn’t tolerate this kind of nonsense back in the day the way it seems to be acceptable - to a point - these days.

I downgraded to 13.1.3. Could not deal with it honestly. I won’t be upgrading unless it gets fixed and if it never does I’ll remain on 13.1.3 indefinitely.

Now I also noticed it, was looking for items in the amazon app, then went quickly to answer to a text, and when I went back, Amazon had lost my Item and loaded the frontpage again on 11pro. WTF?

I am sure Apple has most likely seen this issue by now and most likely have their guys on it. Let's see how long it takes them to find this bug and resolve it.

The problem is that you need this **** iOS version to use your new AirPods how they promise. I hope Apple don’t tell us that this is not a bug, it’s a feature.

really? I was going to get the new AirPods today but if you need the latest iOS then I guess I won’t bother. Smh

I just had a weird issue with my iPad Air 2, pulled it out of my laptop bag and it was seriously hot to the touch, take note I barely use it during the day, it sits in there for hours until while at work and only comes out when I either am traveling (flying) and want to watch series OR at home when I am in bed to watch series and run updates.

Regardless I pull it out this evening and it is extremely hot to the touch, it shows Outlook sitting at 79% of battery consumption while in the background, very disappointing.

I wonder if it’s a iOS 13.2 issue or MS issue, I have never had this problem before today, so I am tempted to blame 13.2.

Anyone else have heat issues?

In the meantime I have switched it off and will power it back on when it’s cooled down.

Not had any heat issues - yet. But you’re probably right to blame iOS 13, it’s a complete cluster(add your own ending to that word), I’m seriously disappointed with Apple on this one, particularly since they made a big deal about iOS 12 being an optimised release (which it was) but the impression was that going forward we wouldn’t see the kind of mess which led to that happening again.

I guess iOS 14 is going to be the new iOS 12, fix everything to work properly style of release :p
I know how complex iOS is and that there are many teams contributing to different aspects, it’s a difficult thing to properly coordinate. But of all companies, I expect Apple to be able to do that. It’s incredibly frustrating that we will never get an explanation as to how the heck they managed to drop the ball so badly.

I’m normally pretty laid back with the occasional issue that crops up in iOS, confident that all will be fixed promptly and a smooth sailing ship will return, so I don’t actually complain much. But this time, this time is a whole different ball game.

@Stacked can you tell me how you downgraded. I'm not so good with that kind of stuff.

Thanks.

I too have been experiencing this. I work from home full time, and I log into a couple web services to do so. If I navigate away from safari or even to another tab for a min or so, when I come back to the other tab, I have to log back into those systems. I also use the Outlook app on iOS for work emails (Not my choice), If I leave that app to go to safari for a bit, the Outlook app reloads and I lose any drafts I was working on. iPadPro 2018, iPadOS 13.2

Downloaded iOS 13.1.3 then with Mac OS Catalina went to finder ->iPhone- “hold option key”-> restore iPhone -> browse to where you saved the file

after it restored I used an iCloud backup I had from a couple of days ago so probably do a iCloud backup before the previous steps.

@Stacked I have an iPad pro 9.7 (original iPad Pro) and am running Mojave. Never had the guts to upgrade yet to Catalina. I downloaded the iPadPro_9.7_13.1.3 ipsw but not even sure it's its the right one. Also something about putting the iPad in DFU mode. Never done that before either.

This problem being discussed in this thread is a nightmare. I can't work one my iPad at all without Safari crashing back to the home screen etc.

Where I notice this most is slightly different place than mentioned here: when I'm listening to a podcast in Overcast, pause the audio, get in my car and connect to the Bluetooth, since upgrading to iOS 13.2, it's been a crapshoot whether or not the podcast will resume or whether it will instead play Apple Music because Overcast has been evicted from memory. In some cases, nothing at all plays until I press play in an app; I'm not sure what triggers that vs. Apple Music, but in both cases, Overcast has been evicted from memory. It very clearly started happening with the upgrade to iOS 13.2.

I'm not sure whether it's related, but it seems like iOS 13.2 is also preventing background downloads in Overcast? I'm less sure as to the timing of that break, but it seems like it was also around the iOS upgrade time that that occurred.

The issue with RAM though is that the more RAM you have, the higher the power consumption. I've always suspected that one reason why Apple goes down the "more efficient, more optimised software = lower RAM requirements" path is that the overall package consumes less power and personally I think the most important feature of a mobile device is battery life (i.e. that it stays mobile).

I'm now quickly realising that these days now the second most important feature is the ability to multi-task!

The amount of RAM in iPhones and iPads has only been increasing and while it might not be 'enough' for some people's supposed requirements, it is fair to say that 2019 iDevices have more RAM than older ones...

But that is somewhat moot, because this problem is not related to the quantity of RAM installed in these machines, it is entirely due to the manner in which the software is managing it. More RAM won't and wouldn't solve the problem, which is either a (really poor) design decision within the current iOS core or a straightforward bug that needs to be fixed.

Either way, this is a software problem, not a hardware issue.

And I’m still afraid that Apple sees that as a feature because they announced the 30 seconds app kill feature a few months ago. But killing multitasking is not the right way.
