I'm really not interested. iPhone users have been fed the same product with tweaks here and there for years now, and if you ask me the iPhone is no where near deserving of being called an "elite phone" anymore. The iPhone (and its operating system iOS) line has gone stale and I for one wont upgrade my iPhone 4. What exactly are Apple doing to innovate or push through new technology in the iPhone? A 0.5" screen increase, probably a slightly faster processor, little more RAM maybe, and a very boring upgraded iOS 6 that I would consider iOS 5.5. The iPhone no longer offers unique selling points, Android phone are more than capable nowadays and surpass the iPhone in many ways.

They will still ship millions though.

They should call it the iPhone Stretch.

Seriously, I'm not really digging the longer screen too much.

thank god they've left that huge bezel top and bottom- mmhm how i love meself a huge bezel, cannot get enough of it.

[...] we will all be amazed on Sep 12th.

No. We will all be disappointed on the 12th of September.
It's Apple tradition since it couldn't keep with innovation ;) to release an 'updated' (outdated because it never includes now the latest of the latest as it used to do) version of its current line of products.

iPhone 5 will be an updated iPhone 4S, that is, larger screen (it was about time to catch the competition with those 4"), more RAM, better processor (I guess that it was time as well to start thinking of a phone as a mobile gaming device...) and maybe (but this is a big maybe) NFC (obviously as long as Apple get its cut, which I doubt telecom operators will even allow, and Samsung is happy to provide a phone without draconian rules). Oh yes! I forgot, a better connection, that is LTE I guess.

If it's not just taller, I'm in. I don't want super-massive phone. That'll looks ridiculous.

Steve would have never allowed this, and after Tim saying he was doubling down on security, i seriously don't think this will be the new iPhone at all, we will all be amazed on Sep 12th.

They can't lock down Foxconn like they can Cupertino, if the parts are being used they can leak at any time.

Good grief. How in the world can you glean what the finished product will look like from these two photos.

Umm, considering that's exactly what the front will look like, I can 'glean'...

I like the design except for the fact that the screen is taller. It makes NO sense. Like literally pointless. My aunt wants to get an iPhone but when I told her what this purported iPhone 5 is going to look like, she was really turned off by the fact that it's only taller. I'm sure she isn't the only one who would react that way.

Say what you want, I'm still calling this design a red herring set out from Apple. If this ends up being the new design, I'll accept that, but it may not be so easy for me to make the choice to upgrade.

don't buy it then. you are not the typical customer apple wants. they want people that buy their products continuously. i am happy with apple and won't switch to android ever, seriously, something really bad most happen for me to switch to those copy cats (samsung to be more specific).

............ what do you want the freaking phone to do? to fly? LOL it is a fair update and this is the best phone on the market, period (the 4S), the new iphone will be the new KING; kthxbye

Then why are all these rumors so consistent? If this ends up being the next iphone, which it will, many including myself will be very disappointed. Why do they feel they don't have to change anything drastically? And yes it needs it.

It needs what? The design is simple and sound, it will feature NFC and LTE, faster SoC, bigger screen, new dock connector, it will make phone calls, do email, run apps, have an app store, text messaging, etc. What does this phone need right now that is holding it back??

What exactly is "this"?

A front panel that looks like every front panel before it but slightly longer. Chicken Little doesn't like it.

After 5 years of the same thing, the proportions on the new one look awkward.

I remember how “ugly” the iPod suddenly looked to me when the classic shape gave way to the thinner style (the one that finally came in black, not counting U2). It looked more square, and wrong! In reality it wasn’t that different, but the larger screen gave that impression. Usually I like different for its own sake, but sometimes change is just hard to take, even for the better.

After we use a 4” iPhone for a while, the 3.5” style will seem odd!

The change I find jarring now is the dark-tinted steel. I know they did it so the antenna-windows on the back wouldn’t stand out so oddly, but it will take getting used to.

Anyway... anyone who thinks Apple needs to come up with some superficially radical new “fashion” every year or two is not in touch with most of the phone-buying public, but IS in touch with a lot of companies out there doing bad design :)

i think the same, but dude, don't tell your aunt it is only larger, you know all the internal upgrades it will have (on the exterior yes, only larger, and the new HD facetime camera, also we don't know about the back camera upgrade either). don't make apple have a bad image to people who really don't know much about hardware.

Was she turned off because you embellished the description? You're using literally wrong...this aspect ratio is pretty common right now, increases the screen real estate which allows room for a bigger battery to power LTE. Is that "pointless"? And it's most certainly real by this point, get over it.

No, I didn't say that the only overall change in it is that it's taller, lol, I told her that with the design, the screen is only taller but not wider. I showed her a picture of one of the assembled body's from the parts we have now so she knows that the design is different, and obviously will have better parts.

Spot on. Some people take longer than others to realize how their own brains accept change.

exactly, what are people expecting? like seriously, i do understand though, apple has set the bar far too high even for themselves providing quality products year over year, but people, you won't be disappointed, you know how this works. whatever comes out will be good and will become the new standard.

After we use a 4” iPhone for a while, the 3.5” style will seem odd!

exactly
