A friend who is the biggest large screen Android fan/user I know recently changed jobs and was given an iPhone 4S as a work phone. After three weeks, she is reaching for the iPhone first and seldom uses the Android phone except to take personal pictures not allowed on the work phone. This is why the iPhone will continue to be the top selling phone and the sixth generation phone will be the biggest seller yet.

Then why are all these rumors so consistent? If this ends up being the next iphone, which it will, many including myself will be very disappointed. Why do they feel they don't have to change anything drastically? And yes it needs it.

Drastic changes do not make for features or convenience. All I want is a great screen, reception and battery life. I don't care if it's tapered, teardrop or I can cut a sandwich with it. Car companies roll out "new" models every year and people flock to them; what's a drastic change? CD player? FM radio? Hybrid?

Sure I'd love it if it were a piece of cellophane that I could roll up to the size of an inkpen, but that's not what we're getting.

I'd be happy if they made it THICKER and HEAVIER. Then put a much better lens in it (both sides) and a (better) light on both sides. Make it shaped like a wedge of cheese (for the thicker lens part).

And stop making the thing out of frictionless glass and metal!!! Put a rubberized back / edges on it so people stop dropping these!!!

iPhone 4S-Long in the flesh!
Flesh?

You must be thinking "Phallic Symbol" ... that fits with Apples obscenely large ego, and opinion of themselves. :)

In other news, it appears that Apple may be experiencing some real fear.

The quote below reveals it all:

"Apple is demanding more than $2.5 billion in damages and a sales ban, while its rival is demanding licensing fees."

This clearly shows Apples fear of competing with Samsung. Converseley Samsung is fearless. My how things have changed. I'm surprised that Apple is so paranoid, and would stoop so low. What a pathetic public display of cowardice.

What happened to the strong, confident Apple of the past?

It's beautiful, larger screen, still the same width so it handles nice, LOVE the new iOS6. Apple seems to find that near perfect balance when creating their cutting edge products.

Only thing I don't look forward to is the lineups and the wait.

Was she turned off because you embellished the description? You're using literally wrong...this aspect ratio is pretty common right now, increases the screen real estate which allows room for a bigger battery to power LTE. Is that "pointless"? And it's most certainly real by this point, get over it.

NO, she said "A taller screen? What's the point of that? That's stupid". I showed her a picture of the assembled body so there is no 'embellishing', and the only phone that I've seen 16:9 in is the HTC One X, which actually looks nice because they don't have a **** load of bezel taking up the top and bottom.

We'll see on September 12th.

I wish the iPhone 5 was not only taller, but wider as well. Not a fan of the design so far, which is a first for me when looking at an Apple product. But I will have to see it in person before I make my final decision.

I was concern about large phones at first, but after holding the S3... I've become a huge fan.

Haha. In the famous words of Chad Warden "It looks like a Dil-do". :p

The best thing about this phone to me is the headphone jack and new dock cable. Otherwise its just a ok upgrade.

spot on

I don't care if it's tapered, teardrop or I can cut a sandwich with it.

Sure I'd love it if it were a piece of cellophane that I could roll up to the side of a pen, but that's not what we're getting.

ROFLMAO, hilarious dude

I'm not sure how you can come to that conclusion? They fear the company who can not even tell you how many phones it sell?

I call it the - "Viagra" iPhone. Longer and harder - for your pleasure :)

I'm no industry insider but, I really think we're being fed pictures of a mockup for a different design. Remember the photos of the curved back design before the 4s release? Right down to the cases produced by third party manufacturers?

I do love my iPhone but it's smaller screen is really starting to be a hindrence - for me. A friend has one Samsung's latest - played with it for an hour (I never used an Android phone). Going back to the screen on my iPhone felt like looking through a keyhole.

I bet a "finsky" with a friend - the leaks are fake.

I am so sick and tired seeing you guys keep complaining Apple did not innovate much and they are not catching up with the competitor. I mean seriously, what do you expect Apple to do, innovation did not come in months or even years. Since year 2007 when the original iPhone launched, every smartphone currently on the market is just an improved version of it. Adding screen size, processor power, RAM and so on.

What happen when iPhone really increase the screen size to your desire size, and everyone will just say Apple just playing the catching up game and not innovating.

BTW, I love this iPhone design when i first saw it. :)

Glad I purchased the iPhone 4S last year and didn't wait. I have no need for a longer iPhone. The current size is perfect. Where am I putting that thing? I'm a guy. I don't carry a purse. I've never envied those large Droid phones I've seen people cart around.

Let's see:
  • New screen with several new technologies possible including in-cell, IGZO and gorilla glass 2.
  • New housing with full metal back. 1.2mm thinner.
  • New battery with a different chemistry.
  • LTE
  • First non refresh iOS device with 32nm processor. All rumors say more than just an A5 die shrink.
  • New dock connector.
  • New headphone jack location.
  • FaceTime camera moved.
  • Thinner top and bottom bezels.
  • New smaller SIM standard.
  • Possible NFC.
  • Possible 1GB RAM.

This is the most drastic generational change since it launched. I don't know what else you guys are expecting, and neither do you. Everyone fails to come up with an answer as to what would constitute a drastic change except a huge screen. Well, that's a user preference thing. Not everyone is going to be receptive to a 4.7" screen coming from a 3.5" screen so get over that idea.

So less than a half inch longer and LTE. The only real changes to benefit the user. It's faster than the previous model (and maybe more RAM) that's standard and expected, not really a rumor (it will always be expected).

The new dock will cost people money (to replace current items) and I don't think anyone will "like" the headphone jack at the bottom, but as long as all applications flip upside down, it's fine. NFC is not going to be implemented enough to make a change.

And no matter what they do with the battery, there will be people complaining battery life is less!

Just to be clear, I'm happy with incremental changes (incremental upgrades). Until they make it paper thin, I'm not expecting anything major EVER again.

It blows my mind how much discussion and anticipation people have for this "magic box".

LTE isn't in my area or I'd be all over it for that...

Gary

Steve would have never allowed this, and after Tim saying he was doubling down on security, i seriously don't think this will be the new iPhone at all, we will all be amazed on Sep 12th.

You forgot to say it won't be calle iPhone 5

the apple of the past was not as successful as the apple of right now and didn't have everybody spying and coping the **** out of them. they are just protecting what is theirs, they don't like thieves neither do i. they have realized they can also get a good chunk of money for claiming what IS THEIRS.

those koreans be crazy dude, ARGH.

they are not fearless, they are afraid, you think $2,5 billions is easy for ANYBODY in the world? that can put some pressure even on Carlos Slim's shoulders dude.

but what do you want them to do? cry on television? they need to make people believe they are the good guys(SAMSUNG), that they haven't done anything just make what "apple had" better and falsely accusing apple of stealing when they know some **** they had is not patented so they have no right to protect it.

kthxbye :)

don't buy it then. you are not the typical customer apple wants. they want people that buy their products continuously. i am happy with apple and won't switch to android ever, seriously, something really bad most happen for me to switch to those copy cats (samsung to be more specific).

'Copy cats', lol. Brand loyalty is a ridiculous thing and sadly too many Apple users are full of it. Look, I really like my Apple products due to their simplicity and reliability, but their iPhones are becoming stale. Android is definitely under-rated on here, its a fine OS nowadays, and getting even better with Jellybaby.

After 5 years of the same thing, the proportions on the new one look awkward.

I absolutely love the minimalist design of the 4/4S/5. But the longer screen on the 5 seems like its going to be hard to type in landscape mode. Or maybe I have small hands. (first world problems)

Anyhow. I'm more interested in the camera than anything else. Can't wat!

They could add the iPad's split keyboard option to the iPhone for people with small hands.

Honestly I was hoping it look similar to the Droid Razr or S3 in terms of size. Maybe not as big as the S3, but something in that area.

The screen's aspect ratio is slightly smaller than the S3 (I mean, not as long), but the device itself is a little longer.

Right because leaks never happened on SJ's watch. If you are serious about thinking this isn't the next iPhone I think you might be in for some massive disappointment come Sep 12

All these leaks are either a big red herring or Apple new security measures royally suck.

Or Apple wants it out there or doesn't really care. Consider this: how many other projects Apple is working on now that we know zero about. I think Apple tamps down on security when it suits its need, and lets things slip out, also when it suits its need.

Wasn't there a rumor a while back of there being an iPhone, and something like the iPhone nano??

It's gotta be the iPhone nano... there's something out there in the shadows that is so groundbreaking we wouldn't know if they were iPhone parts if Apple shipped them to us.
