I cannot seem to find anything in New York or Pennsylvania, the only states within a reasonable distance from me. For no apparent reason, I searched for stock in Los Angeles, on the other side of the continent, and found that a few WalMarts there have limited stock in AT&T models. If only...

Well that was too good to be true. I'm hoping that like some people have heard there are shipments today and/or tomorrow. But it looks like we may have to wait til next Friday for another major shipment.

Well I hate to break it to you but the Walmart near me that said limited availability in fact had 0 new iPads. Only 5 old ones and 5 pink smart covers. The guy checked in back and everything. :(

I don't think there's any way the BB ones can be accurate.. they ALL say "IN STORE ONLY" except when I click 16 gb white wifi only, all stores say UNAVAILABLE. There's no way that every BB near me can have iPads "in store only", but none of them have the 16 white.. it just can't be right.

Just means they wont let u roder online. U have to come intoi the store to buy it. We all know that right now u cant go into a store expecting to come out with anything more than a ticket and gift card though.

1 or 2 of my local Target stores show availability on a couple different models.. But when I called they said, "no we don't have any, probably won't get any more until the end of the month."

Just registered to tell the OP thanks for the links. I hadn't even bothered to check Target's online inventory system; I knew all my local stores were out, and it sounded like they haven't gotten anything in since launch day. However, I came across this thread late last night and checked the 64GB Black Wifi Target links, and lo and behold - two stores in my area showed limited availability.

This morning when I got up, both still showed limited availability and another one had popped up as "Available," so I crossed my fingers and decided to make the 45-mile drive. I ended up getting there about 45 minutes after they opened and figured if they did have anything to begin with, they'd probably be picked clean already. But when I wandered back to Electronics, they had a case full of iPads and not a soul around (including any store employees).

When I finally got someone to come back and open the case for me, I asked how they had managed to have some in stock when every other Target, Walmart, Best Buy and Apple Store within a two-hour drive was completely sold out; he shrugged and said they must have come in last night, as they hadn't been there the last time he worked. Anyway, I walked out with the exact model I wanted; I debated picking up an extra to sell, but I decided I'd rather leave it so someone else could make a happy discovery at Target. ;)

Anyway, this is my long-winded way of saying thanks for giving me the push to check the online inventory; never know when you might get lucky!

Target is now holding iPads in some cases for customers. Be careful trusting their inventory status.

No problem, I'm happy to hear that you have succeeded :)

To everyone's responses of stores not having stock after checking online, I'd always call in advance to be certain I'm not driving an hour and wasting my time. I'd also not trust employees completely, neither in-store nor over the phone, especially if they answer you before actually looking.

As far as I know, the BestBuy and WalMart sites both update once daily, early in the AM. I don't believe the BestBuy site provides a "last updated" time, but the WalMart one does, so make sure you check that before you go driving off as well.

I'm not sure about Target, but from what I've heard their inventory is closer to a live status, but still, I'd call ahead to make sure.

Take this story as the example:
I was being fed this same story by two guys on the floor when Target opened this morning. Saying that all orders were canceled till the 30th of the month. I had woken up early this morning and at 4am decided to check the Target inventory and out of no where there were a few "in stock" and "limited availability." This was not the case when I went to bed last night. So early this morning I headed to Target and was first one through the doors at opening. I got the run around from the guys. At that point I gave them the numbers to check, they went back and walked out with 7 iPad 2's. They were shocked, and said they had no clue. A manager came out and said "they just showed up on the truck, late last night."

Needless to say, I scored. Do your research, do not treat the gatekeepers word as the end all!

Best of luck!

Thanks OP, but sadly nothing has been showing up around me. I will keep checking. And maybe get in line at the local Apple store tomorrow morning.

Thanks to the OP too - this morning I clicked the Target link for the 32GB Wifi in Black that I wanted just for fun, and it showed stock at two Targets by me, and they were opening in 5 minutes.

I had visions of several cars speeding and converging on the Targets at that moment - tires squealing in the parking lot as a dozen Apple geeks and two dozen resellers jockeyed to pick up the precious stock.

I decided that I might as well calmly check it out, and pick up a nice cup of coffee on the way home as consolation for having to watch the mass of people snatching up every last iPad. I hopped into the car and since one of the Targets with stock was the one in Cupertino, decided that my best bet was to head to the one in the opposite direction.

The parking lot was quiet, but already had a dozen cars in it... Everyone must already be inside. I headed down the aisle that ended in the electronics counter, and surprisingly no one was there, except one Target employee. I guess they're already all on their way out...

As I walked up, he was on the phone saying, "yeah, we have one iPad in stock. No, we can't hold it for you". I quietly said to myself, "... and it's about to get sold"

I had the same vision when i saw they had some in stock at a target nearby. I got there and 2 guys were waiting...When we got in one guy made it to the iPads before I did and told the lady there he wanted both 32GB Black Wifis...there were only two 64GB White Wifis left after that. I left with no iPad...

I then decided to go to the nearest apple store with no luck. Tickets were already handed out to the 20 people in line, oh well...

I decided I would try one more Target that had them in stock. I called 30 mins after they were open and still had 5-10 left of different models. Got there at 9 and got my 32GB Black wi-fi :)...no one there looking for an iPad 2 at the time.

I just want to write a simple thank you to the OP. Just picked up a white 64GB AT&T 3G model from Fort Union, UT Super Target. I was 2nd customer in their store this morning. Even their lights weren't on, I ran into the electronics and grabbed this beauty.

Thanks again

I used the walmart links and was alerted of a 32gb black wifi iPad 2 at a nearby walmart. They were sold out and said they hadn't received any stock since then, so it might not be 100% reliable and accurate, sadly.

Same thing happened to me! I saw that a limited quantity of the 16gb black wifi was available and I rushed over only to be told that they had no such iPads. When i got home and looked again closely it said the inventory has last been updated March 13th...WTF.

Yes, I noticed that this morning, too. Earlier this morning, around 4 or 5AM, it said 12AM E.T. March 17th. I'm not sure what's going on, but hopefully it'll update again after midnight tonight. Stupid rollback!

Seems like Targets online inventory is the most accurate since I went to two that said they had them online and they did in fact have them....
