I can't stand any of the "lingo".

Honestly The most complex thing I will get at Starbucks(or the only thing I would get there) is a large soy chai with an added shot. I get really upset when they can not speak to me normally and instead say "Grande soy chai latte add shot"

This is why I always just get coffee, straight up coffee with a small bit of room for cream.

I think it sucks when people order these big long names fancy drinks. mocha mocha chino latte, granda frappy or what ever the hell you want to call them.

It's called coffee and it is good.

Try it.

Personally, I only like coffee in my coffee, so I avoid Starbucks. I think the main reason for the complex orders is to cover up the taste of Starbucks coffee. I honestly prefer 7-11 or Burger King for a quick on-the-go coffee fix, it tastes better, it's cheaper, and I can almost always get in and out in under two minutes.

I think those pricks are so busy trying to be unique little snowflakes that they forget the real thing probably tasted better. I mean they have people at Starbucks that 'design' these drinks and they do fine without your help.

always a venti cream caramel frappuccino.then by myself, sprinkle vanilla and cinnamon all over it.enough calories for the whole day:D

I only go to Starbucks once or twice a year, and everytime I get a carmel machiatto. It's a rare little treat for myself.

I can't stand those people who order everything on the menu in one drink, and then some. Because let's face it, when you want coffee you want it NOW.:D:rolleyes:

My order is straight forward: a mocha made with soy milk (whipped cream if I'm feeling naughty! :p )

People who order something 'complex', like the example in the first post, deserve a slap.

Straight up coffee. Black. Otherwise, you're a douche. ;)

I love coffee and I be had it almost everyday since I was 5 or so (born and raised in Colombia, this happens very often at least in my family it does ) and I love coffee but I could not possibly have it the exact same way everyday to me it is like chicken would you eat chicken everyday?cooked the exact same way? Could you possibly be that boring?

personally im a big fan of starbucks.... all you people out their who say its an over priced, over popularized corporation... they started small just like the place you prefer to go to... they then perfected the cup of coffee and they are now enjoying the benefits.

No, the small place I go to doesn't make bad coffees like Starbucks does. I'm a cappuccino drinker, so i guess I'm speaking mostly about their cappuccinos. I don't really consider it a fancy drink, and I expect such a standard coffee to be one of their best. If you mess up a super fancy coffee, you can hardly tell there was a fault. The vanilla hazelnut cinnamon flavouring probably just covers up any faults.

And I really don't mind going to a big coffee shop chain for a coffee if that's the most convenient option. I was at one this afternoon for 90 minutes, doing some work. So despite considering myself non-biased towards big coffee chains, I truly and honestly don't believe that a big chain cafe regularly produces great coffee. I don't know if this is due to the standardization of a bad technique, or because the beans aren't great. It may even be due to the speed at which they're forced to make a cup of coffee (due to the long queues). Maybe they're trained to do things quickly rather than carefully. I don't have an answer.

And what is a "macchiato"? Coffee terms confuse me.

i like their coffee, but it's not amazing or anything, i ll drink it tahst all,, nothing liek my momma's coffee with milk

Psh...another Starbucks thread?

Peet's is where it's at.;)

As for complex drinks, I think that's the whole point of Starbucks. If all you want is black coffee, save yourself some serious money and take it from home.

That said, I do heard people complain about waiting forever in line when they are just trying to get a no frills cup of coffee.
A decent and smart/ efficient coffee shop will do this; have one employee who specifically asks if anyone is there in line, just to get a drip coffee or tea. :) Saves everybody headaches and longer lines.

They are about 10 percent coffee... They are mostly sugar. an average of 900 calories in each cup.
I agree. Their blended "coffee" drinks have barely any coffee and loads of sugar. I'm all for sugary sweet drinks as treats but um, I still want mine to have coffee in it. And taste like it. And look and smell like coffee. That's why I got a coffee drink. ;) I personally am a huuuge fan of Peet's Coffee & Tea. For example, their blended iced coffee drinks can often be heard ordered "extra bold" meaning sub in some more espresso. Mmm.

I gotta admit, if I'm out at a coffee shop, I'm a "complex" orderer. Because I don't see the point in going out to drop $$$ on drip, that's what I have at home for much cheaper. Anyway, I always preface my order with a slight apology and I fully anticipate that it'll not match the order perfectly all the time. Medium add-shot, decaf, non-fat, iced white mocha. And I'll often ask for only a single pump of the syrup as otherwise, it's too sweet until the ice melts. :p

I prefer the coffee in Costa Coffee myself (is Costa over in the US?) but the principle is the same. I usually go for a latte, extra hot, but in the summer they do these frappuccino drinks that are quite complex, with cream on top and crispy crumbs of something (don't ask me what!) and they can take quite a while to make.

However, if that's what someone wants, then I'll just have to wait. If I go to cafes that sell these drinks, I'll just have to be prepared to wait if someone wants one of them. If I'm in a hurry, and the queue is long, I go somewhere else.

I always have an extra shot in Starbucks because their coffee is quite weak but otherwise it's just a skinny latte. I don't tend to even look at the flavours since the syrups they use make the coffee way too sweet for me.

Coffee is a funny thing though - Starbucks have made it a commodity and you get an OK cup of coffee in each one. It's rarely a great one but you know that you're going to get something you can drink. Some small coffee machines might have an industrial Gaggia but don't know what they're doing with it so the coffee is lousy - it can take trial and effort to find a good small coffee shop. There used to be one down the road from the Starbucks near work; unfortunately the service was so lousy in it, that it shut down. Shame, because the coffee was better.

I've just got my Local Costa down to the art of actually making a cup of white tea with skimmed milk that doesn't taste like someone has just put hot water in a cup of milk.

It's a start, but we'll leave the complex stuff till later.

Cappuccinos taste a bit stronger than lattes, I think. Why not just get a cap, or even a macchiato?
