i think i will never get the idea of taking coffee and then adding not only sugar and milk but fruit syrup, caramel, cinnamon and chocolate etc.

why not simply get a milk shake in the first place ?

Grande Café Latte and I'm out!

Sometimes I like to stay for a few minutes and watch the Starbucks icon pop up in the Wi-Fi store on my iPhone.

think of it more as a coffee shake

I have drank coffee since I was about 5 (Yeah I know really bad, but I love the taste and it is hard for me to start the day without it especially if I am up earlier)

I love Starbucks, however I wouldn't go out of my way to go there if I can make coffee on my own, but sometimes the urge for something more than a regular cup with milk, like say a Cafe Mocha, or a caramel mochaitto. Its also one of the best places to get a good cup of coffee (I also like dunkin' doughnuts) so I don't really know what the big fus is?

Jimmy crack corn.

And why should anybody else?

The only things I've ever ordered there are "Large caramel apple cider" and "that concentrated hot chocolate thing"

Starbucks is ok, but I really prefer making coffee myself at home. I've also been to some small coffee shop in town and not only was their coffee horrid, but the prices were on par with Starbucks.

I go to Dunkin Donuts in the summer sometimes and get iced coffee, but only because I'm too lazy to make simple syrup at home. I guess I could put the sugar/cream in and then just pop it in the freezer for a bit.

Well, regardless of people's feelings on complex drink orders, I think the OP's order (which was a prank on his friend) would have been priceless, I'd love to have seen the look on the barista's face.

Actually, that could make a fun video.

Customer: "Hi, I'll have a <insert OP's complex drink order>"
*beat*
Barista: *SLAP*
As customer is reeling, barista puts a plain black coffee on the counter.

Me, I'll just have my usual, a "medium double double" at Tim Horton's.

Agreed... I've heard complex orders before, but that one is utterly ridiculous. Actually pretty much any drink that has half and half and splenda in it at the same time is ridiculous.

My standard order at the mo is something along the lines of "grande * mocha, skim milk, no whip" sometimes with a peppermint or raspberry at the *. :) I consider that level of specificity reasonable, particularly as long as people are going to do tasteless things like put whipped cream in a cup of coffee....:rolleyes: ;)

did anyone see "office space"? remember the perky little waiter at the Chocthkie's, the restaurant they are at in the beginning of the movie? he comes up to them all hyper-perky and happy and says:

"So can I get you gentlemen something more to drink? Or maybe something to nibble on? Some Pizza Shooters, Shrimp Poppers, or Extreme Fajitas?"

THATS every starbucks barista i have ever met. that hyperactive fake joyousness they exude. it kinda freaks me out.

I have written three complaints to Starbucks for this very reason.

Ever since Schulz came back on board, he's been pushing for some kind of "Uberpersonal customer/barista bonding" thingie. It makes me wanna puke!

I have my favorite local coffee shop but Starbucks is about a three minute walk whereas the Naked Lounge is about a half hour walk away. Starbucks is not only convenient but they have a nice patio so, in the summer, it's a nice place to be. The coffee's ok, the pastries are good and I like that I can pick up coffee grounds for my garden.

It's nice when someone who has served me before recognizes me but when a new server comes up and aggressively pushes me into baring my soul, it's a huge turnoff. Schulz needs to realize that you can't corporatize friendliness.

Also, while we're on the subject. There are three sizes of coffee; small, medium and large. The last thing I want to do when I go for a cup of coffee is to be forced to learn some idiotic, pseudo-italianate, corporate jargon. It's a coffee shop for gawd's sake!!!

AMEN!

It's funny to see them translate my order "16 ounce XXXXXX" into whatever they call it.

Apparently Venti comes from the Italian word for twenty, because you get twenty ounces in a large coffee. Unfortunately, I have no idea how much twenty ounces is! Damned imperial measurements. I want my drink in pints or milliliters please!

Of the bigger coffee shops I always preferred Caffe Nero but I don't think you get those in the US.

I recently bought myself a reasonably priced Gaggia for my kitchen and I have been happily making my own awesome espressos and cappuccinos for the past few weeks. It was quite an expensive initial outlay but I can see myself saving so much money in the long run :D

*sips coffee*

i drink far too much coffee. my coffee of choice is starbucks. however, i do not walk into storefronts to buy fancy coffees. the only time i'm walking into a store front is to buy a bag. :D otherwise i buy it in bulk at a local warehouse store.

i can't drink coffee from anywhere except my own home (and maybe family abodes), and if i do have to consume somebody else's coffee, all i do is gripe about how terrible it is while  i ask you to top it off.

anyway, i grind my own and if i want a fancy coffee, i simply splash of cream to my black coffee. or if i want an exotic coffee i mix my regular blend with a 'flavored variety' coffee from the local farmer's market.

i've even been known to add a splash (or two) of kahlua or some baileys. :D

but most of the time i drink it black.

and YES, i get *those* looks from the starbucks staff when all i want is a measly bag of columbian. coffee.

How do you feel about people in-line ordering complex Starbucks beverages.

Today I was in-line and I watched as this guy ordered a Grande half-caf, 2 1/2 shot, 3 pump vanilla, 4 pump caramel, 1/2 half and half 1/2 nonfat, extra hot, 2 splenda, and get this... latte machiatto.

Okay well that guy was me, and everyone looked at me like I was crazy, but it was only to prank my friend who was the barista.

Anyways I just thought about how people really feel about this?

Actually I heard that too but not at Starbucks.I was Reading MacLife magizine and there was an article about what the iTunes wi-Fi store can do at Starbucks and this is what is said:"while waiting for your decaf-triple-shot-grande-sugar-free-vanilla-2-percent-milk-extra-white-mocha-extra-hot-no-whip-no-foam-extra-choclate-drizzle-marble-mocha macchito but anyways must suck for the people making those orders because people get mad if they dont make it how they said

I think it is flat out obnoxious.

I strongly dislike Starbucks and and I tend not to ever go there, burnt coffee beans doesn't make good coffee. If I want coffee Caribou is where I go, or Dunkin Donuts. I have been on a big tea kick recently though :)

Dunkin Dounts is nasty (starting to barf)

Basically a non coffee drinker here.

This thread has been interesting to say the least. I've had bosses who were addicted to Starbucks or Seattle's Best. Sometimes we would visit a remote site just to visit a Starbucks.

Me, I will just sip my water, or occasionally have a soda.

You crossed the line when you specified the number of pumps of topping, the exact percentage blend of the two different milks, and the splenda.

You are lucky no one punched you. :p
