I'm going to make some predictions now, so when the Ipad mini comes out it will blow your mind how good my predictions are.:p
1. Hi-res screens are in. This will have a high resolution screen to mirror Apple's trend of adopting high-res for all their devices.
2. The ipad 2 is out. The ipad 2 is just a lower-res lower performance version of the ipad 3. No more need for the ipad 2, since this will replace it as the lower performance ipad.
3. It will not be priced to compete with the nexus 7 or kindle HD. The price will be $100 less than the current generation ipad.
4. It won't come with sandpaper.;)

edit:
Forgot to add.
5. The ipad 3 will get a silent upgrade of its processor to an A6, or something similar.

Still don't believe it, not till invitations are sent out. Timings wrong, pricing wrong, market place wrong etc etc....

* The timing is perfect -- Christmas shopping season.
* The market looks good for a tablet this size. As far as I can tell the Nexus 7 and Kindles are proving this.
* We don't know what the price is. Obviously, that will have a huge impact on the success of an iPad mini.

It's a mistake to try to come to conclusions on this until we know the price. By the way, it does not have to cost more than an iPod Touch.

Timing is not perfect because of the current Apple lineup and it's pricing. The market is not right due to the same reason as Apple will as I stated charge a fortune for it.
And frankly you are a fool, no question, if you really are going to believe APPLE will sell a tablet PC for less then it's brand new iPod Touch it's spent time and money on developing.

I have even read several big name tech and gadget mags predict the same thing. it will NOT be cheap.

I have an ipad 3 and am struggling with the idea of owning the mini as well. I need it to serve a purpose. We shall see.

I think it does serve a purpose, maybe just not yours. I long for a smaller ipad, I felt the current iPad is just too large to lug around to meetings, use for daily work. The Kindle and Nexus 7 are awesome sizes you can read web pages easily on them, they fit nicely in the hand and can easily go wherever you go. If you are needing basic web browsing, email, some apps, reading books kindle is great. I'd rather stick with an iPad especially since I've invested a few bucks in apps. I would definitely pick up an iPad mini, because I've had an iPad and iPad2, and am not looking to stick with the same size for the next one. I'm currently working on a Kindle HD fire at home for fun and love the size. If I could get a iPad mini of similar size I'd jump on it!

I would wait for the second gen with a retina display, but i will prefer this size over the regular ipad.

And finally, my little 3 year old sister would leave my iphone alone and kept playing angry birds on this thing.

I agree with you. I like the new form factor, but I would expect the retina display to be a vital impact for the quality of the apps. There are a lot of developers working hard to make their apps competitive and beautiful. I too will wait for the 2nd iMini. I’m really happy with my i5 and iPad 2

no. apple can't do it. it has been proven through the history. they never compromise the price point. do you think that new ipad $499 is even cheaper? NO. you can buy laptop. apple is not amazon, google. so don't expect. I am sure that apple will fail, learn some harsh lesson in the end like if apple do something, everything will be just successful ********.

I clearly remembered reading the news feed of the iPad announcement here at MR. SJ talked about how great the product was, and did numerous demos before getting to the price. And many posters online were commenting: is it going to be $800, or over $1000? Then, SJ showed the price: starting $499! Wow! I remembered my heat beat immediately shot onto the roof! :)

Very few people three years ever imagined the Apple tablet would be less than $500. So don't tell me now that $499 for iPad is expensive.

It will have to be cheap because it has to compete in the marketplace. Apple can will also most likely reduce the pricing on the ipod touches when these come out to compensate for market changes and so they don't overlap as much. It's not the first time a company goes in the red in the beginning of production just to come out in the black a few months out of the gate. It's a gamble, but one Apple would surely win at.

It's not even gone beyond some rumours and you are ALREADY stating what the SECOND iPad Mini will have hardware wise! Sheesh I want your crystal ball...

Erm, so you think Apple are going to reduce the price of the iPod Touch range before it's even shipped because of a product it would have just launched? No, they won't do that.
And Apple has NEVER in it's ENTIRE history sold a product at a loss or at production cost, and that was even when Steve was sacked.

So they would have to basically make a first for the entire company's history to sell an iPad Mini at cost or at a loss.

This. You are in for a great disappointment if you expect apple to undercut the iPod.

I expect pricing to start at $349-$399 for the iPad Mini and for it offer a retina display and the same higher level of performance offered in the iPad 3. Apple has no reason to need to offer a cheap alternative to the other tablets on the market when millions are more than willing to pay more for the iPad.

I imagine a surprisingly low price for being Apple. If there's something Tim Cook knows his **** about, it's this. :p I'd go as far as to say that the low price will be the main attraction of the mini. I think Apple really wants to kill the lower end in the tablet business, and that they'll try to do it with an agressive pricing strategy to the point of being a device selling with their lowest profit margins yet. They'll have one device precision targeted for this, and they'll try to leave absolutely no room to compete. $199-$250 perhaps?

Maybe an 8gig @ $250. I'd buy it.

I think it will be price at $350.
The Touch is $300 the lowest price point, so makes no sense have an iPad costing less than it.

A small point many on here are forgetting. Apple WILL sell a Mini at a high price. I won't buy one as I won't spend the money and want something different to my iPhone 5 for a tablet. And I am happy with Amazon or Google etc. But MANY will buy an Apple 7.85" iPad costing double even if it has 16GB ram only.

iPad usually gets its update in March-ish, not November.

Yes, I realize that, but Apple might want to get everything on Lightning as soon as possible. If I had to guess, though, Apple will hold out for a substantial update in March.

I think it will be price at $350.

The touch is 199 at the lowest (though it's last year's model at 16 GB.) As I said earlier in this thread, I don't see why they couldn't price the low-end mini at 249 for 16 GB w/ iPad 2-class parts.

I am very curious to see how everything will work out. I am more interested in the pricing though. I am very skeptical in this device costing $199.00-$249.99. I expect it to be around the 300-350 range but not anything lower than that.

and in other news, McDonalds orders a ton of potatoes... rumor is they're going to make french fries out of them....

Next?

I will predict now just like I predicted the iPhone 5 would have a totally new more powerful next gen SOC despite all the nay sayers stating No WAY would an iPhone have a better SOC then an iPad!

So I will predict IF an iPad mini is launched it will cost AT LEAST from $349. I would actually proclaim they will ditch the iPad 2 and replace it with this mini. IF they launch one.

Thanks for your prediction. You sound about as accurate as weather predictions.

They wouldn't DREAM of giving the iPad 3 the A6 yet, hahaha. What do you think they will do in March? The A6 will literally be the MAIN upgrade, (or possibly A6X) to the next iPad when it is released in March. Sorry to burst your bubble there.

Specs & Price Are An Issue

I'm tempted, but I want a good amount of memory 64GB, Retina display (or a larger version of the iPhone5 screen) and mobile cellular. By the time that gets factored in I doubt the price is going to seem much better than an iPad3 with similar specs and same extras (memory and cellular).

I'm guessing that for someone that wants a base 16GB, no Retina screen, and no cellular this big "iPod" might be just the ticket.

I've got an iPad2 so I'm just going to wait things out until I see the iPad Mini's specs and the rumored mid-year model revision and/or the end of the model year revision.

8GB iPad Mini starting at either $249.99 or $299.99. Simple as that. The iPod Touch (totally different device with different purpose) starts at $199.99 for 32GB or the new generation at $299.99 for 32GB.

Apple would be fools to sell for that price. It would all but kill their high-end iPad market, unless it was far inferior to the new iPad. I can't see Apple coming out with an inferior product just to sell to the low-end market. It's not in their DNA.

I see them releasing a high-end quality iPad with a small screen, and charging accordingly.

Apple would be foolish to release a 7 inch tablet at any price. A 7 inch screen is too small to properly express tablet software. Apple did extensive usability testing and determined this to be the case years ago.

7 inches is just simply the incorrect size.
