I understand the marketing strategy, but I'm fuzzy on your latter point.
Why is Apple contracturally obligated to use a given name? And with whom, the German military?

I believe when they licenced other companies to build Mac compatible computers, the contract did not apply for a new OS. So instead of incrementing the next OS, they renamed it, thus negating the contract.

Get a job. Used G4 PowerMacs start at about $150. Assuming a minimum wage, part time job you'd have $150 in less then one month.
:D I got a job, and then my iBook. Having a bad-ish Mac is better than having none at all.

One of the things Quantum Computers are really good at is designing other Quantum Computers... Self evolving computers, anyone?
Isn't that the entire premise for life, the desire to replicate? This is BAD!!! Oh look, my mac is having another baby...

also i understand 10.5 is the last OSX
Seems unlikely... why would Apple leave the OSX evolution half-finished?

I surmise that in four years, Apple will have an even more significant control on computer technology. I think we will also see a blurring of technology in non-mobile environments (aka desktops will fuse with televisions etc.). Think about ten years ago. The computer and tv were entirely independent of each other. I think we can expect more of this media mashup sort of thing. Apple TV has already started this.

This makes my head spin. Let's just wait.
