Confirmation of June 9th 3G iPhone Launch?

tisk tisk tisk....

Digging yourself deeper, huh? go get yourself a GoldVish and then you can be THAT cool guy (aka THAT a$$hole). So sorry that you're in the lower echelon of society that can't afford a GoldVish.

Like it or not, Apple's plan is to put an iPhone in the hand of every person who has a cellphone. They don't make it to only sell to a handful of individuals (but GoldVish does!), but rather want to make as much $$ as possible from it. Furthermore, ALL new phones go through the same process. Look at the RAZR and Blackberry. Alpha consumers and business users picked them up first, not caring about the high price (I had a day 1 RAZR and paid $600 for it); at this point, supplies are still low because of high manufacturing costs. Once the phone becomes popular, the company ramps up production, manufacturing costs go down, so they lower the price. Everyone wants it and everyone buys it. Meanwhile Mr. Alpha consumer buys a newer phone (I had a day 1 iPhone and paid $600 for it) and the circle of life continues.

A word of advice: Don't be so smug, arrogant, and self-absorbed...it will only hurt you in the future, whatever path of life, and GUARANTEES flaming on these forums.

PS: as far as jailbreaking is concerned...Apple was founded by 2 guys whose first business venture was phone hackery products...Apple encourages this kind of behavior (note Apple's response to jailbreaking was releasing an SDK).

You're overanalyzing, dude. My original and subsequent posting and replies have been fairly superficial. You're taking this to a level that is unwarranted.

Apple makes it money because they make EXCLUSIVE products that appeal to an EXCLUSIVE market; thusly, they can charge EXCLUSIVE prices for those EXCLUSIVE products to that EXCLUSIVE market. Go to their website. Compare their prices. CLEARLY this is what they do, have done, and will continue to do.

In this way, they don't need to appeal to a mass market or put an iphone or ANY of their products for that matter into the hands of every Tom, Dick and Harry on the planet (and at this point, of those three, I'm assuming you're a 'Dick') because they're making their money from the elevated prices they charge for their products. Or at least that's how I see it. I'm not an economics or marketing guy so I'm unable to translate this into "dollar-speak" that I'm sure would make more sense. But you get my drift.

Do you think a Macbook Pro is in the hand of every laptop owner? Do you think a Mac Pro is in the hand of every desktop owner? Moreover, do you think it was EVER Apple's intention to put these products in the hands of every aforementioned Tom, Dick and Harry? They don't need to.

Apple's loyal customers are practically willing to pay ANY price for their products because of a proven track record of quality, dependability and performance. They don't need to make their products cheaper so that more people will buy them!!

Bottom line: Apple doesn't need the stinkin' filthy money of the masses!! They've managed just fine without it so far!!! We Apple faithful shall sustain them forever and forever and forever...bwhahahaha!!!!

A fair few people have bought that iPod thing they do...

My, that's quite an accurate GPS system you envision! In order to "pragmatically assemble" photos into a panoramic view, it'd need to know the precise location, angle of the camera, etc. Keep dreaming big, though!

It's already been done and a proof-of-concept has been demonstrated. ;)

By stitching together different images and comparing the slight angular differences, all of that information can be computationally extrapolated.

So any guesses on if Apple's gonna have new measures against jailbreaking, and more importantly, unlocking?

Also, maybe slightly O-T, but does the current state of unlocking allow all features (visual voicemail, mainly) on all U.S. networks?

Still doesn't change the fact that GPSII can only pinpoint location to within about 9 feet.

visual voicemail is only available with the official networks.

With the GPS your photos will have GPS coordinates imbedded in the metadata of your pictures. As you post them on you website Google will be able to index your photos, and everyone else's, and then pragmatically assemble all of the photos into one large panoramic view that will include the ability to extrapolate the 3D structure of builds, roads and any other landmark. People could then go to Google maps and "fly" through an area. All of this stitched together from everyone posting their pictures anywhere on the web.

There is SO much more the new iPhone will be able to do with GPS and 3G. I can't wait to see what all people come up with using the SDK!!!

Sounds like Microsoft's Photosynth which is no doubt one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

I'll be the prognosticating cloud of gloom. :)

Sure, 3G certainly has an overall throughput that spanks EDGE, but the existing 3G networks have HORRIBLE latency. The 3G iPhone will be a marked improvement and will continue to be the best portable internet device, but I predict a legion of whiners saying, "Not fast enough!".

Apple usually gives users what they, want; the problem is that a lot of users don't know what they want. :)

This is WRONG. Compared to EDGE, one of the PRIMARY benefits of HSDPA is a huge DECREASE IN LATENCY, in addition to the much faster speeds. Nearly every place in N. America, Europe, and Asia where UMTS is rolled out, HSDPA (and HSUPA) is also present. Quit spreading BS!

Ugh at the thought of Apple or AT&T offering discounts on THE coolest phone on the planet. I realize this is simply a moneys game and Apple wants to sell as many phones as possible, but...I CHERISH MY EXCLUSIVITY! This reeks of what happened with the RAZR! Remember when you were the ONLY person who had one then suddenly EVERYBODY (literally) got one?! Remember how it sucked to then have the same phone as every other lowlife on the planet? This is exactly what's gonna happen if they discount the iPhone so deeply that everybody can afford one! I currently get a cheap thrill outta knowing that at any given time in any given place I'm one of if not the only dude with an iphone! Oh well. Say goodbye to that if they cheapen it. Mass consumerism sucks!

Are you 13? If you honestly believe you are "special" or "exclusive" because you own ANY product, I pity your intellect.

If it indeed now gets cheaper with subsidy we can only conclude that the people who bought it in the first year were kinda ripped off.

This is the end.

The major whines of most iPhone haters were no 3G and no GPS. if it has both, it's game over. There simply won't be a better phone.

For GPS, it is not necessary to built-in a GPS module.
I have tried a game on PSP using "Place Engine" (Wi-fi) for positioning. Its quite accurate actually.

but to think, what would make iPhone to be a better phone?
hardware spec? 8MP camera? LED photo light? WVGA screen? Yes but it would charge you over $900...
Let see if iPhone OS 2.0 have any giant leap...

Interesting. Should be a great phone, but I probably won't buy it.

Not that there's anything wrong with it, but I have an iPod touch and a perfectly functional phone, so I don't see the point of getting one.

It will probably ship to be on sale on a Friday at 6:00pm. Perhaps as far as 2 weeks after the Keynote to let the hype engine roar.

umm... are you high? yeah right iphone is :apple: big boi right now. it will ship the day after its introduced! i would put my life on it!

I got mine on the first day and I don't feel ripped off. Having that new toy was a joy.

And I'll feel the same when I get the 2.0.:)

Wow. I stand corrected! That is pretty astounding, and opens up all sorts of possibilities. It's gonna be down the road a few years for wide-scale adoption, but still. Thanks for the pointer to the TED demo!
