So, are we expecting CS3 to be on par with CS2 pricing? more?

student prices have been mentioned a few times in this thread, does Adobe usually release student prices on release day, or do they wait a little bit?

Could Adobe know something we don't?

undoubtedly

The last time they released an upgrade to Creative Suite was the same time a certain ex-computer (only) company released an update to their operating system...

no. if apple were to declare leopard GM today it wouldn't make it to store shelves until the first week of april. current beta builds aren't even ready for release candidate status.

don't set yourself up for disappointment and/or annoyance with apples "delays", leopard will be released within a 2 week window of WWDC.

Please adobe, fix the icon! No way am I having that in my dock. UGLY!

Not likely, Ps is here to stay. I had assumed the beta just had a beta icon, but lightroom is Lr, robohelp is Rh, looks like everything CS3 will be Xx. I hated the new icons at first, but after a few months I say it's better than another feather, and I won't have to relearn which feather/flower etc is which program either. Replacing the icon is easy enough, but I think I'll be too happy with CS3 to be bothered by the 5 Xx icons on my dock.

We know Lr is lightroom, Rh Robohelp, Ps Photoshop, Br Bridge...

Il Illustrator?
Id InDesign?
Fl Flash?
Dr Dreamweaver?
Fw Fireworks?

acrobat 8 has the weird swirly purple e though, maybe it won't have a Xx icon.

I also wonder if macromedia programs will just keep their names plus a "CS3" at the end. I suppose if they're adequately integrated, they should indeed just be "Dreamweaver CS3" etc, but we'll find out soon enough.

Edit: Wow, I was just a minute late, looks like all the icons are public now. I wish they would have just used one template for the icons, the mixing of letters and symbols lacks coherence, but whatever, they're all colors and they'll all run fast on intel.

You can see all the icons here:

Secondly, All the Macromedia apps are to be named CS3, There's been a Fireworks CS3 beta out for a while. (fw9)

March 27th appears to just be a launch date, not when the software will become available. I found this on the Adobe blog, emphasis on the bold part at the end.

The wait is nearly over! We can now confirm that Adobe Creative Suite 3 will be announced March 27, 2007. The company is celebrating the launch at an event in New York City that will be webcast live at 3:30pm ET. During the webcast, Adobe will reveal the features and suite configurations that make this the largest software release in Adobe's 25 year history.

Details on how to view the webcast will be available on Adobe.com later this week.

EDITOR'S NOTE: We are announcing Creative Suite 3 on March 27th. However, the software will not ship until later in Spring 2007.

Good catch! Well, at least they should announce the different bundles at that point. I'm hoping for one with Flash, Fireworks, Dreamweaver and Photoshop. And Motion and Cubase. :)

Dumbest.icons.ever.

I liked the CS2 icons. Why not give them a slight update without going all 180 on us and deciding to just throw 2 letters out to signify what app it is? Ehh. Not a fan, not a fan.

Ugh. You said it. What is the point of a graphical user interface if you just use text abbreviations?

What took them so long? Guys, this should have come out last year :p

Xcode couldn't handle projects the size of the adobe apps. Almost nothing is the size of the Adobe apps. It took awhile for Apple to get up to speed, and then it is a massive activity to test, and then do you just do a universal binary with all that expense, or do you bring out the new version.

This was *NOT* just a matter of clicking a check box and recompiling. There are still several apps that are aways from universal binary. Office and Sigma Chess come to mind. As remarkable as the transition is, these apps define the grey area.

Bout freaking time.....still sucks you have to wait till spring though.
