What would they audit, it's not against the contract. It's no different than selling the phone.

Not really sure but that's what he told me. I have a single ULD plan from years ago and I will be adding a line Im just waiting for people to do it first to see if it really works.

Verizon iPhone 5 upgrade, want to keep unlimited data, help!!!

I have a family shared plan and have unlimited data, just talked with a Verizon rep and said that I will lose my grandfathered plan if I upgrade to iPhone 5 in both lines. I saw a thread in this site that it's still possible to get the iPhone subsidized price and still keep unlimited data but I have to open up 2 lines for 2 dumb phones. My questions are if I transfer the upgrades to the 2 new dumb phone lines, they might give me 2 new contracts for the 2 new lines since I am still getting 2 new phones, right??? Can i cancel the 2 dumb phone lines anytime w/out termination fees??? Can somebody help me STEP BY STEP on how I need to talk to a rep coz this will be my first time I'll try to negotiate a loophole and want to make sure I'll be saying the right thing. Thanks in advance and I hope I don't mess this up. This will be our first iPhone so we're kind of excited. Please help....

You can not transfer the upgrades from your unlimited line, that will cause you to lose your unlimited data. The loophole is having a dumb line which someone either uses, or is a ghost account(you pay for it but no one uses it). If you open a new dumb line it is automatically available to buy a subsidized phone with.

You don't transfer the upgrades to dumb lines. You need to ADD dumb lines to your plan and use their subsidies to buy iPhones. And yes, you have to keep the dumb lines ($10 a month) active for the duration of their contract. This can still save you money in the end over buying the iPhone outright.

Please read through this thread. This has been covered many times and you'll get a ton more useful information you'll need.

Okay, I got it now. I'm still hesitant to pay an add'l of $20 a month. I'm already paying $136 right now for 2 smart phones. I hope Verizon will change their mind.....

it's actually worth having the extra dumb phone line because:

- you can suspend the line at no charge twice a year. (6 months max / year)

- you can use up the dumbphone's upgrade every 2 years

- use the dumb phone line to keep the existing grandfathered unlimited plan

iPhone cost $649 + tax (full retail)

iPhone cost w/ upgrade $199 + tax (upgrade)

Dumb phone line $9.99 a month + tax (renew every 2 years)

$10 (i'll add in +1 dollar for tax) x 2 years = $264

$264 - max 1 year phone suspension (per verizon guidelines, you can suspend phone 6 months out of the year) $132 = $132

So in essence, you're paying $132 every 2 YEARS for the dumb phone line.

THAT IS WORTH IT.

Activation and Transfer Process

I'm really hoping someone can help me get clear on the activation / transfer process. There has been a lot of conflicting info in this thread.

I added 2 lines to my family plan to keep unlimited data on my 2 main lines. Easy.

I understand the new iPhone 5's need to be activated on these new lines first. (By phone? Online?).

Then I need to deactivate them and replace with dumbphones. Can this be done on the website with the "Change Device" ?

Finally, I need to activate the iPhones on my ULD lines. Can this also be done online? Will those nano sims be dead because I activated on the original lines?

It may be easiest to do it all in the store Friday afternoon- will verizon activate a dumbphone if I don't have it with me? Its in a different state (activating it for my parents) but I have the IMEI and ESN number.

So I just spoke with a supervisor at Verizon Customer service. I had an upgrade on a dumb line but I transferred it to my line (unlimited data) and after reading this it makes me mad I didn't add data to the dumb phone line and once i get the i5 then transfer to my unlimited line......dang!!!!! He says the only option is to cancel my order and re-do it on the dumb phone line....

Can I call Internet sales to see if they can switch it to my dumb line so I can keep my unlimited then switch the iPhone 5 over to my unlimited once it gets here...?

Everything I've been told has been to activate and deactivate over the phone (one or two customer service reps told me not to do it using the online tool). You can deactivate right after you activate. In order for the person to re-activate their phone, they do not have to be with you. They can hit # (and then some three number code that's been listed in these threads) and it will walk them through reactivating their own line.

Go in to the store to get a new Nano card for your UDP line.

Dummy here can't find the dumb phones:D Would Verizon let me transfer the iphone, then cancel the data plan on the dumb phone line even w/out a Dumb phone???

I believe you're going to have to have some phone activated/associated with on the "dumb phone" line account.

I'm checking to confirm if this would work.

We have a family plan with a few smartphones, all on unlimited. I'm the most likely to use a lot of data, so we decided it would be a good idea to keep my plan on unlimited and transfer someone else off.

The plan is to use my brother's upgrade to buy the phone subsidized, put him on a 2GB data plan, then I would activate the phone on my line.

This should work fine, correct? And no need to ever go into the store? Also if I'm trying to buy a phone at the Apple store using my brother's line and my dad's VZW account, would that be possible?

All of this has been covered numerous times in this thread. Please read through it and you'll find additional information that will prove really useful.

I didn't have to when a while back I added a new line for a phone, then switched the phone to my line. The Verizon rep told me I can keep the line open as a dumb phone and they would make one up to put there. I didn't even have to worry about putting a real dumb phone on there.

they could have changed their policy. over the past few weeks trying to figure this thing out is that their reps dont know ***** about their own policies.

Ordering on the wrong account and cancelling has been covered in this thread. Read through it to get all the information you need.

My opinion would be that:

Best bet would be to cancel the order and re-order through the other dumb account if you want to make sure you keep your unlimited data.

If the phone's already been shipped, refuse delivery or return it before opening. Don't activate it.

What would be the point of suspending the dummy line? To avoid paying the $10 monthly fee?

According to http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/faqs/My%20Verizon/suspend_service.html

Is the length of my contract affected if I suspend my service?

•If you choose to suspend without billing, then your contract will be extended out for the length of time that service was suspended (e.g., a 30-day suspension will extend your contract for 30 days).

Basically, suspending your service is only a temporary solution and doesn't reduce your overall savings.

I have called Verizon three separate times and all three reps told me the same thing. If you are doing a alternate upgrade (a upgrade from another line already on your account that is eligible) what you need to do is before turning the phone on call them and they will activate it right to your number with no issues on keeping your unlimited data. I asked this question several times about the unlimited data each call they all said no problem this is a question asked 25 times a day.
