So just got the 5. Loophole is a go. They have Verizon employees at the store and explain to them the loop hole and they will do it. Also the SIM cards do have to be changed. The apple stores have plenty so don't worry. Enjoy. So far so good. Nice phone. Enjoy all good luck.

Did you do this in store? I think most of us trying to do this over the phone or online.

Did you have an exsisting family plan or were an invidual user? How much is the dummy line costing you?

IF this were true, and I have my doubts, you are saying that Verizon employees are working with Apple staff, so there must be AT&T staff, Sprint, so on and so forth and they all must have their own kiosks as if you we're in store to complete the transfer. OR they can do it over the phone or online, we most of us had assumed.

Well...this new development just screwed me. I was originally going to try to transfer my UDP upgrade to the dumb phone line (upgrade won't kick in until next spring) and upgrade to iP5 there, then switch everything back to the UDP line. Now everyone is posting that Verizon won't let you do that anymore.

My only option is to buy it unsubsidized now. There's no point to waiting until my upgrade kick in on 10/10.

ARGH! AND THE LINES ARE OVER 200 ppl now everywhere in DC Metro!

you can't wait less than a month?????????? add a new dumb phone line and then cancel the other dumb phone line in october.

There is staff by each cell company there. They do it every year to help any activations.

what's funny is that NOBODY has reported this actually working over the phone. The only confirmation either way is by people who have tried and been told they need a new sim card.

Maybe I just see things too one dimensionally, but if the phone being turned on renders the SIM only usable on line 2, then how do they keep a new SIM from doing the same. We assume Verizon changes the phone to line 1 and them when you turn it on with the new SIM in place, it sets up the SIM to work on line 1. If the phone can do all of that, then why can't the phone switch the # on the SIM in the first place since its being told by the phone what # it is.

Alright here's what I did:

I activated the phone first on the dumbphone line. Then, I called Verizon and explained to the rep that I wanted to move the iPhone to my UDP line and reactivate the dumb phone.

You need a new sim card. Heading to my Verizon store now.

Why is everyone turning it on first??? SIGH

We need someone who ordered two iPhones to activate the one on the dumb line, have Verizon do the switch and use the sim from the other iPhone to make sure the new SIM works. It makes no sense to me to have to go through all of this, but at least we can get a confirmation.

maybe there are no SIMs in the store because verizon knew about this supposed trick in advance and told people not to give out SIM's?

This isnt some new hack that internet losers just discovered. This has always been possible on verizon for as long as they operated. They have always known about it.

Hey guys. So as someone asked. At the apple store by me they had AT&T sprint and Verizon employees there from the corporate side. Vz and AT&T people brought a box of SIM cards. I tried getting a pix but wading able to. They all had there own laptops with there respected companies system on it so they can do esn switches among other things.

Very well ran. Nita good thing to do is keep the esn number of the dumy phone available to make it easier for them to switch it.

Also found out something else

The apple stores computer don't recognize the ulm plan as it doesn't really exist anymore. So make sure a Verizon employee or call cust service to make the esn switch. Don't deal with apple as there computers will switch your plan over to the new styles.

Technically its not really even a loophole its completely legit. Each phone line has its own contract. You are not changing your contract you are just putting a different phone onto it. The contract that changes is the phone-line that ordered the upgrade. That is why you can not transfer your upgrade. You have to leave your current contract intact.

its more like the fact that millions of iphones are being sold today and they knew people were planning to do this en masse.

ok i have a question for some. i am still getting emails on my iphone 4s even tho i switched the line to the 5 cant make calls or send texts but still getting emails any ideas?

I have to say that following this thread has been very entertaining for me. It has really felt like we are all one big community and going through all of this together.

Sounds like there been some success and i am so very happy it is working. I plan of going through all of this starting in October so i will be very well armed with all of the good information and real life experiences from right here.
