I still don't understand why the phone even needs to be activated on the dumbphone line, anyway. When the phone arrives, can't it just be activated on the line with the UDP? I don't believe the phone is shipped with information already tied to the dumbphone line, only activating it on that line will make it tied.

Bingo!

---------------------------------

The only reason I can think that the sim card can be flashed is because the CDMA/LTE is both contained in the same chip, thus allowing the nano-sim to be flashed, this is all just speculation on my part and in no way the authority on how it is.

You guys better report back on how you are activating! I also spoke to FedEx last night and they said if a delivery attempt was unsuccessful today, that there would be another attempt on Saturday, so I guess that's good. I'm hoping ill be here for it today tho..

Are all pre ordered iPhones not activated when you order it online, telesales, or in the store? Anybody? Just want to make sure before I order that it won't be tied up to the dumb line....

The number one key thing to remember is do not touch the upgrade on the ULD line.

Somehow get your hands on an iPH5 from a different line and then move iPH5 to the phone number that has the ULD.

Most folks on here have been suggesting using a line with a "dumb" phone so the ongoing monthly cost would be cheap. Because for some (or most) they are adding a line and the upgrade on the "added" line is how they are getting their hands on the iPH5

Well...this new development just screwed me. I was originally going to try to transfer my UDP upgrade to the dumb phone line (upgrade won't kick in until next spring) and upgrade to iP5 there, then switch everything back to the UDP line. Now everyone is posting that Verizon won't let you do that anymore.

My only option is to buy it unsubsidized now. There's no point to waiting until my upgrade kick in on 10/10.

ARGH! AND THE LINES ARE OVER 200 ppl now everywhere in DC Metro!

Just pay the EFT on the phone you just received. Don't know if you can do that immediately or have to wait several days.

I might consider that. I have the Verizon iPhone 4 purchased at launch Feb 2011. The ETF shouldn't be too bad.

None of the Verizon stores nearby have nano sims, so I won't be able to transfer the iphone to my line  I'll try the Apple store later today but I'm sure it'll be a zoo

I am going to be highly upset if none of the stores have the sims. Its ridiculous if they can't transfer this over by phone.

This would be the biggest fail ever.

I am being told by ALL of my local Verizon stores that they will NOT transfer the numbers (new sims) as of now because of their limited supply. They are keeping them on hand incase one of the sims in the iPhone 5 goes bad.

WTF?!!!!

This can't be right. I was told over and over again that as long as I didn't activate or even turn it on, they could switch it over the phone.

Are you sure the stores even have their head on straight? They can't deny you turning on a phone, especially when its within policy.

What I'm saying is if you activate it on a different line (line 1) then go the store to switch it to the UDP line (line 2) by getting a different sim, my local stores will deny this because they say they do not have enough nano sims on hand to cover if a bad sim pops up.

I think the problem is that the phone people and the store workers have completely different systems and policies. I don't think the phone reps really know what can and can't be done in a store, and I don't think the store reps really know what can and can't be done over the phone.

That said, I think itll be the luck of the draw if you can get a store that has nano sims to give you one.

I plan on calling in before I even open the box....I'm not doing anything until they have it switched over.

And if it does require a sim and they knew this, why wouldn't they send plenty out to stores? Everyone does this sort of thing by using an alternate upgrade line.

I told the guy in advance what I intended on doing and he activated the phone on the new line. If he didn't have to do it that way, that was his mistake.
