The contract did extend on the dumbline and dumbline only.

I'm hoping yours is just a weird error then. Are you sure someone else on your FamilyShare plan didn't touch it? I eagerly await the results of your trip to Verizon tomorrow, and everyone else's stories. I'm on vacation until next Wednesday and my iPhone is waiting for me at home, so by then hopefully we can figure out the best way to do this :D

I have two iPhone 5 "Alternative Upgrades". The 1st phone I activated (via iPhone) on the eligible line. This one I cannot transfer due to this 24 hour sim card hold. The second one I activated on verizon's website (online) to the line I wanted it on. It activated perfectly and I kept the UDP. It doesn't matter if the phone was turned on. You just cannot have activated the sim card to any line.

The sim card that was shipped with your iPhone will work for a transfer after this hold expires. None of us would have a problem if it wasn't for this bogus 24hr hold.

Nope no on else on the family plan touched the account. Verizon waited 6 hours and saw I used 2 gigs of data already and decided to ******** me into this plan is how I see it.

Called Verizon this morning explained what happened, tech said i did everything right as far as activating and maybe it was something on apples side that messed up my plan, but then he switch me to back to my old plan :)

you paid full price for the phone right? sorry, i forgot.

I've been reading this thread for a couple days and I just want to be certain.

So what you guys are saying is that the upgrade can't be on the unlimited account for this to work? Like I can't just transfer the upgrade to another line, order the iphone, then activate it back on the real line?

Thanks

That's correct. The upgrade MUST come from the basic non smart phone.

Looks like I will be waiting until Tuesday evening when I get my sim card to switch over. I tried everything suggested and nothing worked. Of course it was activated in store on another line first, but oh well.

I did call today and try again, the lady seemed to know what she was talking about (I'm sure she's had several calls about switching lines). She said I would have to wait for the sim card also, but I did ask her could she go ahead and turn that new iphone line into a dumb phone line. I told her I didn't plan on using the iphone at all on the new line. She asked me if I had a dumb phone to put on there, and I said no, but that they had put a fake phone on my line before. She figured out a way to do it, but she called it a "test" phone.

Now my iphone 5 can only use wifi until I can get my sim card Tuesday, but that's fine by me. I was so worried about going over the 2gb limit on the new phone line and I didn't want to worry about it.

I paid the subsidized price (added a dumb phone line), used the online activation tool on Verizon to swap my iPhone 4S with my iPhone 5. Was able to keep my unlimited data, and no change in pricing on my plan. I did NOT turn on the phone until I switched lines via verizonwireless.com.

I did, however, go to a Verizon Store (non-corporate) and they tried to do it and said it couldn't be done unless I switched to a family share 4G plan. I said no thanks and then went home and took care of everything online.

And yes, I'm definitely eating more data on LTE. Come on Tethering app!

Here's my situation...

Hey everyone! I have a family plan and my line is available for an upgrade. My mother has a "feature phone" or dumbphone, as you guys put it, and I was planning on using my upgrade on her account I so i wouldnt lose my unlimited data. Then I was planning on lettting her use the phone for a day or two, then go to verizon and switch the phone to my ULD account, and her going back to her feature phone. Will this let me keep my unlimited data? and will she have to keep on paying for a data plan if she goes back to her feature phone? I want the iPhone 5 but I don't want to lose my unlimited data.

Confirmed: 'Transfer Upgrade' from ULD line and upgrading on non-ULD line still kills the originally eligible MTN's Unlimited plan. I had posted evidence of this ITT last week, but having received and activated my iPhone 5 yesterday I can further confirm the damage is done.

I'm liking the new iPhone, even though it's now on a Share Everything plan (which actually isn't that bad if you have a lot of users, data gets really cheap past the 10 GB/month level, only $5 per GB/month).

Thanks again to

for pointing out the secondary Order Status link, it did indeed work for me, although I opted to switch my 4 lines to Share Everything rather than waive off the iPhone 5's first day delivery (received at my front door 12:15 P.M. Friday 9/21).

But u can switch your upgrade from the ULD line to the dumb phone line and then buy on that line, which is what I did.

Okay thanks a lot! This is disappointing but I may look into the shared for my family, as it will be the same price, but with unlimited talk which will be a bonus.

I am no longer keeping track of this thread but if anyone has any other questions feel free to PM me.

That is what I was planning to do. Transfer my ULD line's upgrade to a dumb phone line, buy the phone and then switch it over to my ULD line. Does this work?

This has been discussed soo many times. If you do that, your ULD will be removed.

That's what I did and it worked. Called when the phone arrived and just activated it on my line after having switched the upgrade to dumb phone line and ordering it with that line.

A facepalm isn't necessary. I am new to this website and more specifically this forum page. I apologize if I haven't been here since page one. I certainly don't have time to read a 30 page forum, as I have other obligations in my life far more important.

Well, looks like I might have to hold on to my Galaxy Nexus for some time longer. I was looking forward to being an Apple guy now but it seems that I need to think this through. I'm just not sure if the iPhone 5 is worth losing unlimited data for.

It's been about a day since I activated my phone. Just checked my plan and it's still on unlimited.

Glad to hear that you got things sorted out, TdubyaC. By the way, did you purchase through Verizon or the Apple store?

I did it through Apple; selected the 2GB plan upon ordering, but only saw a contract extension (no data plan added) on my dumbphone line a few days later.

It's understandable you have a life.. but at the same time, if you want information you have to do the work and research. All the information you're asking for is in this thread... multiple times.

It's extremely frustrating for some people who are on these threads to have to see the same questions asked over and over because people are often too lazy to bother spending a couple of minutes and re-reading what's already been answered. There's often a sense of entitlement to an immediate answer without having to put any leg work in.

If you don't have the time, then don't expect an answer. And if keeping your UDP is worth it to you, do the research. If you don't have the time, then keeping your UDP isn't that important to you. Simple as that.

I certianly hope that my Doctor had the time to read his books and go to class. But I guess some here would find it perfectly acceptable if he didn't read all the material because he was busy.

On that note.. anyone know if I can transfer my upgrade from my UDP onto another line and switch it back and keep my UDP? :)

Which method did you use? The online activation without turning the phone on? Also, did you use an upgrade from another line that is tied to your account?

I have a FamilyShare plan with an upgrade available on a dumbphone line. I pre-ordered through Apple and selected 2GB data plan on checkout.

I used online activation without turning the phone on. I selected "Activate" (not "Switch") for my unlimited data line, and inputted the IMEI and ICCID SIM card numbers.

I'm curious as to the "24-hour SIM" rule. For those who ended up activating the line on their dumbphone first, did waiting 24 hours before reactivating the SIM on your unlimited line work?

Many people are tossing SIMS and getting new ones as a result of this, while other posts have said that you don't need to wait.
