For those that actually lost unlimited data, did you see the change online right away?

How long did it take your my Verizon account to change to tiered data and under what page did u find the change

I have been reading this forum and trying to figure out how I can keep my unlimited plan but get the new Iphone 5.

Line 1(my line): Smartphone (with unlimited data) able to upgrade 10/7/12
Line 2: "Dumb"phone not able to upgrade till 2/2013
Line 3: "Dumb"phone not able to upgrade till 2/2013

I live chatted with two different Verizon reps and they said two different things!! 🙁

Can someone please help me!! I would like to upgrade to the iphone 5 on my line but also keep my unlimited data plan!! Thanks in advance everyone!!

none of your dumb phones are eligible for upgrade until next year. i think that's the issue. they need to be eligible to get the discount.

Transfer your upgrade to line 2 buy the phone activate on line 2 then put dumb phone back on line 2 then put iPhone on line 1 that's what I did and I still have unlimited

When you activate your iphone 5 upgrade on the unlimited data line you'll lose you unlimited data plan. Unless somebody else has a different opinion or experience.

I have to admit it is odd that you have that option. I have an upgrade available on my UDP and when it goes to plans It says that if I want to keeps UDP I have to go to Apple Store and buy full retail.

Grandfathered iPhone 4 with unlimited data
Up for device upgrade now (contract expires in Feb 2013)

I want to purchase the iPhone 5 and keep my unlimited data however when I go to Verizon's website to add the second line I'm running into trouble. When I try to add a 'dumbphone' the screen is tagging me with $30/month - not $9.99 a month and warns me my unlimited plan is no longer available. So in addition to the $40/month for my iPhone I'd have to pay $30/month for the dumbphone.

Is my problem I don't already have a dumbphone on my account?
Should I be doing this with a rep on the phone instead of online?
Should I add a line, add the iPhone 5 w/2GB, receive the phone, switch the iPhone 5 to my iPhone 4 line and then what? What do I do with the iPhone 4?

I guess I need some handholding to figure out how to do this correctly and not lose my unlimited data.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The $10 a month only applies to family plans that are not shared family plans.

Ok, for those of you still having trouble with this, it's much easier than you think. As long as you have someone on your plan has an upgrade and doesn't have unlimited data (or doesn't mind giving it up) you can do this with ease.

So here's how it worked for me.

-My Dad had an upgrade on his line (He has a 4S with 2GB data)

-I simply ordered the phone using his upgrade (I went through Target, but should be the same process for everyone).

-When it arrived, I kept everything sealed.

-I went to Verizon.com and did the Switch/Activate device button under my Verizon.

-I then selected my line and said activate device.

-I was then prompted to enter the ESN/IMEI/MEID number. Just look at the back of your iPhone 5 box and enter the numbers.

-I was then prompted for my SIM number.

-Open the iPhone 5 box, take the phone out WITHOUT turning it on.

-Open the SIM slot with a paperclip or SIM ejector tool.

-Look at the numbers on top of the SIM card and then enter those numbers on Verizon's website.

-After continuing, it'll probably feed you BS saying your plan may not be compatible.

-When you get to the part where you select plans/data just make sure your unlimited data is selected (it should be by default).

-Once you've confirmed that it is, continue and you should be all set!

-You may have one more confirmation in there afterwards but it should just be confirming what you've already confirmed with them.

No need for SIM switching, calling Verizon, etc.!

Alternative to that is the ICCID on the box, that is your SIM number.

I think i understand how the process works, my mom has a dumbphone who is eligable for an upgrade, mine is 11/25, i do have unlimited data, she does not.

Now I order from my moms dumbphone upgrade and activate phone under my account as listed above. Will my mom then be able to use my upgrade on 11/25 to get herself a new phone?

The same happened to me. It's still using your upgrade and that's why it shows your number, just do the steps like Phoenix said.

btw, for people who say to cancel the data plan for the dumb phone line so you can put it back to a voice plan, i was curious if this can be done on the website or do i need to call?

Why would you change it if you have unlimited data?

That's what I'm asking. When you upgrade, does it tell you, you can no longer select unlimited data? Or does it say you have unlimited data but switch when you activate.

Had the exact some issue, just take it into the Verizon store and told them to put the phone on the line that you want, done. I was in and out in 10 minutes.

Did they give you new sim? U still have unlimited data plan? Was this done rescent ?
