Did they give you new sim? U still have unlimited data plan? Was this done rescent ?

Yes, I got a new sim and kept the unlimited data plan. As long as you DID NOT upgrade and got the iPhone 5 on your unlimited data plan line, you will have unlimited data.

Worked like a charm just like you said. . Thank you.

We have an upgrade for our family plan in November. The main account is a dumb phone without a data plan. I have a 4s with grandfathered unlimited. I want to purchase the 5 with the dumb line, adding the 2 gb data plan. I then want to put the 5 on my line and put my 4s on the main/2 gb account. Will this work? I read something saying you had to put the dumb phone back on but will it be ok with the 4s since we're purchasing the 2 gb data plan for it?

Make sense to me, your did not use the line which iPhone 4S was attached, to do the upgrade. No upgrade, no affect. The dumb phone line was the one that was hit with the 2 year contract. I don't see a problem with that.

That will work, my dumbline did not have an upgrade available as I opened it to purchase the iPhone 5 on launch day. And from what I was told when you do an upgrade transfer you have to activate it on the dumbline first or else it looks like you upgraded your UDP line if you activate it straight on that one. But you can call verizon when you get your phone and get them to do the whole process on the phone so that way the person with the dumbphone doesnt lose service.

And the contract will be renewed on the line the upgrade transfer is coming from, in your case line 1.

That is exactly how I did my upgrade transfer, and you could do the same thing with Line 2 to Line 3 again it doesnt have to be a different dumbline to repeat it.

So I transferred my upgrade from Smart Line 1 to Dumb Line 3 and ordered iPhone 5. Through-out the whole order process it showed Dumb Line 3 phone number but when in the email confirmation it shows Smart Line 1 phone number. I called Verizon right away to see what's going on. The rep I spoke with mentioned that it's fine and she can help me with the activation when I receive it directly on Smart Line 1. She even put a note to call me back around the delivery date. According to her there is a way to directly activate the phone on smart line without losing UDP or activating it on dumb line.

When I login to MyVerizon Smart Line 1 shows "Device Needs to Be Activated (Activate When You Receive Device)" and Dumb Line 2 shows Upgrade Eligibility in Feb 2013.

I just spoke with another Verizon rep. today and according to him the moment I activate the iPhone on smart line, I will lose my UDP. I am in a limbo now, should I cancel the order (refuse the package if shipped) or should I take the chance. And to add to my anxiety I have $20 off on UDP data on the Smart Line 1, what if I lose that one too.

Just activate it on dumbline, then after activation switch lines. and drop data plan on dumbline. its the activation your not supposed to do on the smartline.

Could I get some opinions on my situation?

I currently have a (crappy) droid w/unlimited data. I have a single line account. Because of my voice plan, adding and upgrading a dumb line doesnt work because it raises my bill $30 per month.

My dad has my grandmothers dumb phone on his account, eligible for upgrade My dad has unlimited data on his iphone 4s. My mother has 2gb on her iphone 4s on the same account.

So if I understand this correctly...

My dad can up grade grandmoms line to iphone 5, select the 2GB data plan. Activiate the phone on that line when it arrives.

Then give the phone to me to activate on my line, reactivate grandmas old dumb phone back on her line, dropping the 2GB data plan.

So can I do this and keep my unlimited data and not screw with my dads (since my mom already has the 2gb data on that account)?

I'm a little confused. I just ordered iPhone 5 on a "dumb phone" that had an upgrade. The rep told me all I had to do was activate it on my line with udp when it came Nov 2. Is this accurate or do I need to activate it on dumb phone's line then transfer to my line and cancel data on dumb phone's line?

Just activate it on dumbline, then after activation switch lines. and drop data plan on dumbline. its the activation your not supposed to do on the smartline.

Will it have any impact on my Smart Line 1 since Line 1 contract will be renewed to 2 years not the Dumb Line 3. Even though I transferred the upgrade to the Dumb Line, Smart Line contract will be extended to 2 years.

NO once it is activated you can switch it to any line you want its a used device, however you will need an iphone data plan on the line you switch to. (which you already have i believe)

I can confirm this works, because this is exactly what I did. Before taking the 5 out of the box, I went over to Verizon website, clicked "activate a device," chose the UDP line, and entered the SIM number and MEID from the box, went through the steps it asked, and done.

It's really easy.

Thanks chakraj, I will give it a try when I get the iPhone5. Yes, I have unlimited data plan on the Smart Line 1.

Mortalias - was your Dumb Phone Line eligible for upgrade?

Yes, I purchased the phone on a dumb phone line eligible for upgrade with a brand new 2gb data plan, yada, yada. Once you get the device though, it isn't linked to anything until it is activated first.

Just trying to clarify somthing. I have a family share plan. iPhone 4 udp with upgrade. Dumb phone also with upgrade. I order iPhone with dumb phone upgrade yada yada. Can I then transfer the upgrade from the iPhone to the dumb phone line so dumb phone can get a new dumb phone? Will this affect my udp on iPhone line?

I would like to know the answer to this as well.

I used my dumb phone's line to upgrade to the iphone 5 and then transferred it to one of my smart phone lines and was able to keep the UDP. The dumb phone was put back on and the contract was extended 2 years.

Now, when I log into myverizon it shows I can transfer an upgrade from one of my smart phones to the dumb phone. I wonder if this would work a second time on the same dumb phone line. Anyone know?

Thanks.

Finally got my ip5!

I have successfully maintained my ULD. I stated my steps earlier in this thread (Page 35 #853), but now that I have the phone, I thought I would post an update. The process was simple and as expected.

All steps were completed in a VZW store by a great and knowledgeable vzw sales representative in about 12 minutes!

I purchased the ip5 as an upgrade to an existing basic phone.
Once the ip5 was activated on the basic line, the original basic phone was then reactivated to its original line.
At his point the ip5 was automatically deactivated.
The ip5 nanosim was replaced.
The ip5 was then activated on the ULD line.

Simple & easy!

This was completed a last week and so far all is good regarding the maintenance of the ULD.

Good luck to all.

I have just one question. I have unlimited on my 4.

I transferred my upgrade to my fathers flip phone and then went ahead and was about to buy the 5. He has no data plan on the flip phone and I was prompted to select a data plan...the lowest being 2gb for $30. Once I deactivate the 5 on that line and switch it to mine, how do I put my father back on no data?

When you activate the flip phone back it will disable the data service. Provided your dad's fli phone is basic phone.

So yes, that's what my father has. I was just concerned when it says I need to pick a data plan. I wanted to make sure I could get rid of it when I was done transferring it to my line.

Ok, so I transferred my upgrade to line 2 dummy. Purchased the 5 on line 2 and had to add a 2gb data plan to it.

I would like to do this all online if possible.

so the steps are:
1. Activate 5 on dummy line 2.
2. This is the part I am unsure of....transfer what to what?
3. Wait 24hrs for nanosim to reset. Do I still need to do this?
4. Activate 5 on my original UDP line via website.
5. Reactivate dummy phone on line 2 and drop the data plan.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

I am not sure what you mean in your step 2. The transfer of the upgrade was done and it is what allowed you to order the ip5 on your father's line.

So I say...
1. Activate ip5 on line 2
2. Reactivate dummy phone to line 2 (this will auto-kill thew $30/2gb just added and render the new ip5 deactivated.
3. Activate the ip5 on UDL after the nanosim reset.

The only waiting should be for the nanosim to reset. You can activate the ip5 on dummy line and then put the old phone back there in a matter of minutes on online. You can also check with a local VZW or Apple store to see if they have any nanosim cards in stock. They are free and should give you one. If so, you could activate the ip5 on your ULD line immediately after it comes off your fathers line

While waiting for the nanosim reset, you ip4 is still good-to-go, and you dad is back in business on the flip phone.

You can do all of this online although I did it in the store.

I have been told that the nanosim resets occur just after midnight EST. So if you do this in the evening, you can activate the ip5 in the morning.

Perfect! Thank you for clearing that up for me!
