Thunderbolt never came with adapters. I had to pay $30 for the firewire adapter since they just X'ed out firewire ports from the iMac. I paid $1600 for the computer and the $30 adapter was not included for free. I would be shocked if it came for free with the iPhone. This is Apple, it makes money where it can.

I;ve always hated this train of thought. People who spend as little money as possible are the people usually with the wealth.

It is actually the smart move not to spend 40$ on something that should cost no more then 10$.

Yo bro, bruh YOLO rite?

you're still complaining about this? It's a $20 cable. Get over it! Stop making excuses and just admit you're cheap.

The more I think about this, the more disappointed I am in Apple for not including an adapter with the iPhone 5.

Name ONE phone company who has ever given you an adapter to their old model charger in their latest model?

Apple is including a cable and brick to charge your phone.

Connecting to any prior model charger cable or accessories is clearly an option that you will have to deal with from any phone supplier.

What kind of entitlement mentality do you live with every day anyway?

I have 6 things that use the 30 pin dock connector. Should I expect Apple to give me 6 free adapters because they changed their charging cable? Ludicrous.

It's funny, all the comments on here and it's this last one that probably puts it in perspective the most and what what I was thinking. I remember when I had a Samsung flip-phone that I bought a computer dock for, when they changed socket I just bought the new one, without question as that's just how it goes sometimes, did the same with the old HTC phones, for ages they used a 30 pin dock style thing then suddenly moved to Mini USB, just sucked it up and bought a new dock/accessories (and they didn't even come with a Mini USB to 3.5mm headphone adapter with the very early ones either!).

So no, there is no love in this gadget world. Just quit whining, pay the overpriced amount forget about it in a few months and enjoy your new phone, that's what I'm going to do.

Most companies use a standard that doesnt need to change. They are usually backwards compatible without an adapter. They are also cheaper to get a cable...

Yes, now they have all moved to those and had all caused customers the same issues, I can remember when Mini USB cables for my Moto Krzr were £25 and no cheap substitute was available for months after launch but did it work with my Startac charger? No. Did they give me an adapter? No. They gave me one charging cable/sync cable combined. As did Sony when they moved from my T610 to Xperia Mini. The list goes on.

I am just saying because it's Apple everyone is complaining when actually they have had the 30 pin adapter for nearly a decade which if you think is really good and at least 2-3 times longer than other manufacturers kept thier charger ports (calling all Nokias!).

No one complained this much when Apple went from FireWire to the 30 pin connector either so no idea why people's expectations have changed this much!

I think they should just commit to giving everyone that ordered whilst the text was there one, anything else is shaky ground with relation to not receiving as advertised.

Meh; not worth complaining about. If you complain about spending $30 for an adapter you may/may not need, then you shouldn't be buying the Rolls Royce of smartphones.

Perhaps if all phones, android and iphone decided on a universal standard port the need for "adapters" wouldn't exist.

As of now, Micro usb seems to be the way to go. We all know if any other company attempts to use Apples port in their phone a law suit will follow

Just a common sense thought

i agree that apple should fork one over to the preorders that said one was included. however, correct me if im wrong though, the adapter is pointless for every thing but charging; as i was under the assumption that it cant do audio/video out. so everyones docks and such are still useless.

Does anyone really want his phone attached to a Lightning adapter and sitting on top of his device with a 30-pin plug that previously supported his iPhone/iPod? Something will break. :(

The Lightning-to-30-pin corded adapter would be the safe way to connect to these "older" devices, some of which are still sitting on shelves in stores.

That confusion was corrected. It does do audio out, now says that in the description of both the adapters. My understanding is that it doesn't do the kind of video out people have in their cars.

Website said "included"

I think most people are missing the point here.

I preordered my iPhone 5 at 17 mins past the hour pretty much as soon as the store came back online here in the UK.

I actually added an adaptor to the basket then noticed it was included so removed it. I don't give a flying **** what they cost to make or what the retail price is. I just want what was in my basket when I paid for my £599 phone.

Its not right that I buy something then have the box contents changed before I receive it. I'm almost evengelical about the Apple stuff I own but this just makes me feel angry. I should feel happy about my purchase not angry.

If there is no adaptor with my order when it arrives on the 21st then I will make a call to complain. The outcome of that call will influence my decision to keep the phone or not.

That is my feelings at this point

Addendum

Just noticed my posts seem a bit "I don't care just go buy one".

I do in fact agree that as it said I will get one included (and thought it was too good to be true so took and kept a screenshot luckily) I do think they have to honour this, if you bought yours after the around 1.5hr (I think) mark that they removed it then they don't. Don't want to seem harsh but if we are arguing semantics here...

I probably will chase Apple up on the phone if I don't get one in the box and send the proof I have until they relent but this is because I don't want any company to think they can just remove something and go "whoops, sorry" and get away with it or they will get sloppy and probably keep doing it.

It would be like removing the fact it comes with a phone and your not just buying a box and accessories.

I did check and it does not state in the terms of purchase that accessories included can be altered (other than appearing slightly different from marketing).

At the end of the day, the only thing I'd plug it into is my current car charger... I've got iPods docked, I almost never dock my Phone... Can't remember the last time.

So, I can understand the people who comment that they only want to pay for what they'll us. I can also see the side that's pissed...

Now, here is what would piss me off; if I bought a $30 adapter and a month later either Apple starts selling them for $15 or $20 or even starts putting them in the iPhone 5 box for free...

I've seen that power adapter thing. But what's it to do with the new lightning cable/adapter everyone talking about? Does the iPhone 5 come with a new 30 pin charger or not?

It does not come with a 30 pin charger. The new lightning cable that it comes with charges it.

go Bluetooth for audio adaptors instead of making Apple richer

If you just want to transmit music to an audio device with a 30 pin iPhone holder in it, try one of these: a Wireless Bluetooth Music Receiver for Bose Sounddock/Beatbox/etc. (do a search in Amazon, there are cheaper ones but from shadier sellers)

It is basically a little Bluetooth receiver you plug in the 30 pin device.

You can even transmit iTunes to the device from you Mac, if you like.

Is it audiophile quality? No. Is it better than those crappy FM receivers for car audio from iPhone? Much, much more so. Is it as good as top of the line dedicated wireless headphones (non Bluetooth), no way. Is it as good as plugging the iPhone right into an RCA Y adaptor? Probably not but, close. Is it good enough for 95 percent of users? YES. Will it recharge your phone? No way! Can you recharge your phone with a cable while it transmit music to this gadget? Sure. Can you walk around the room with your iPhone while it plays? Yep.
