I'm no lawyer, but I think legally, anyone who ordered during that timeframe it was listed as being provided should get one for free. :D

I'm not concerned about the adaptors as much as new lightning cables. Instead of paying Apple prices, I'm waiting for our good friends from China to start listing them on amazon. My guess is $10 within one month, down to $5 in 3 months, $1 in 6 months.

There, fixed for you.

(Ugh...no strikethrough?)

LOL. what i meant is that what they are doing is cheap, come on, you are selling $649+ phones and you are nickel and diming people over a connector that cost you 50 cents to make?

I will get it from ebay in a month time.

I don't mind paying for it but 30 dollars is just ridiculous. Apple should allow this to be a tack-on option for 9.99 or something.

I wonder if another company will make an affordable replica.

I'm sure they will, it's just a tiny little circuit trapped inside a tiny piece of plastic.

I'm not paying $30 either. Esp since the iHome I'd use with only cost me $40. Might as well just buy a new iHome

To charge that much for an adaptor you know people will have to have, is just plain greed. Tell you what, apple is what they said they were never going to become it seems.

That thing should have been 9.99, you know it only costs but maybe .50 cents to make.

I know I was just being (trying) funny.

You also forgot the change in charger with the 3G. Granted this was more of a safety issue but I still got a new adapter out of it :p

Update: Chargergate

Oh yeah, can't forget about RemovalOfTheDockGate. We actually didn't get anything free out of that one though.

The more I think about this, the more disappointed I am in Apple for not including an adapter with the iPhone 5.

I don't mind that they changed the connector necessarily...but it will be an inconvenience for quite awhile. At least acknowledge that fact by providing an adapter. Not only are they not meeting customers halfway on this...they haven't even left the driveway. What a golden opportunity missed for Apple to repay the loyalty customers have shown them.

This whole adapter idea really is unfortunate (but a necessary blunder if we want devices to continue to be smaller and lighter). One of the awesome things about owning apple products such as iPhones, iPads, and iPods is how universal the charging mechanism was. You could go to anybody's house and as long as they had one of these Apple products, you never had to worry about charge level.

As I am sure is the norm with others here, I have accumaulated quite the stash of these chargers, making it easy to charge my phone in the car, at home, and mat work without having to carry a single cord. But fortunately, this will be a temporary burden as more and more devices come equipped with lightning bolt chargers and devices such as docking stations provide their own adapters.

Looking forward to all the controversies iOS 6 will bring on Wednesday! ;)

Perhaps all of those people who ordered the phone before the web site was changed should email Tim Cook and suggest that Apple do the right thing and supply them with an adaptor unit.

I'll say it again...

Whatever is the case, the 30 pin adapter should have been included from the start.

Here in au it will be $35 (but no doubt cost pennies to produce), that's just a kick in the ass from the world's richest tech company.

Here's your $1000 iphone, but wait, you'll need to spend an extra $35 so you can use any dock devices you might have.

It's a deal-breaker for me just out of principle.
Apple is just out of it's mind.

Fsck the 5, I'm looking for a 4S.

PM me if you're in AU and you want to sell your 4S.
I don't care what condition it's in, so long as it works properly.

.

dont really need that adapter, most things should work wireless in 2012 anyway. bluetooth connection to the car or bose dock is where its at

$30 however is utterly redic for sth that probably doesnt even cost $3 to produce. there's hope china will offer some for 99cent on ebay sooner than later

That's what I thought I'd do... until this morning when I found myself placing a pre-order. Respect to you for staying strong!

Haha, thanks. I was quite tempted to do so, but it's a combination of factors. Apple just did too well with the iPhone 4. It's still going and doing what I need. The iPhone 5 will be quite a bit faster and have various improvements but it hasn't wowed me enough to be bothered by it - but again that's probably because the iPhone 4 is such a great phone. I'm also interested in seeing what EE have to offer with their 4G contracts before I make any decision.

Apple would be throwing away money to include the adapter. The 5 will be my first iphone and I sold my ipod. After all, Apple is only 10% of the smartphone market so I'm not alone here.

You should really buy an adapter only for a stereo with a dock or something like that. Otherwise just get a new cable. They really should have included one though, usb to lightning would have been even more useful.

I have only one reservation about this lightning connector..whether it is strong enough for the iPad.

Couldn't it have been a lazy copy/paste error. The text for the usb/lightning adapter is pretty similar...

Still they should be included. I would have ordered one otherwise...

1. They are going to/get bad press.

2. False advertising, you should be entitled to that when you order the phone. Dosent matter if they screwed up you should still get it.

3. I hope this turns in the bumper thing where they start sending them out for free.

4. The price is absolutely ridiculous.

5. Everyone should keep these topics about the adapter alive so they get enough bad press and send them out for free or something along those lines.

I dont understand the idea the most people won't need the adapter.

1. the adapter is 29$
2. the lightning cable is 19$
3. its out of stock for a few weeks!

I have a cable at home, in the car, and at work, i could use replacement cables, if they had let 3rd parties get ahold of them or had them available itself.

While i get the idea i can live without it until it comes back in stock, the iphone is a luxury item and luxury items should contain a luxurious experience.

A adapter for the extra cables EVERYONE has should have been included for the first few months until a ready supply of lightning cables were available.

Plus apples website says the adapter does not allow for analog out, so no chip inside? How do they justify 29$?

Guess i'm dragging the cable around with my I5. First world problems, yes, but a luxurious item deserves a luxurious experience.

As noted by iPhoneinCanada.ca soon after pre-orders for the iPhone 5 went live earlier today, Apple's online store in several countries appeared to be noting that the company's Lightning to 30-pin Adapter would be included with customers' orders free of charge. The disclosure came in the form of an option to add an "additional" adapter as an accessory.Image

Customers were only presented with the option to add the cable-equipped adapter and not the direct-plug adapter, and Apple's "What's in the box" documentation did not list the adapter as included, leading to considerable customer confusion.

After initially reporting on the inclusion of the free adapter, The Next Web followed up by asking Apple's online sales representatives about the issue. According to sales staff, the listing was an error in the Apple online store, and the adapter is not being included standard with iPhone orders. Apple has also removed listing from its store pages and no longer mentions the adapter's inclusion.

Apple's adapters are available for standalone purchase at $29 for the direct-plug version and $39 for the cable version, but they will not ship until next month.

Update 12:26 PM: Apple has issued a statement to The Loop confirming that the adapter is not included with the iPhone 5.

Apple will make billions on that adapter.

deal with it bro. study hard in school to get a better job so you don't have to sweat 20 bucks.

I;ve always hated this train of thought. People who spend as little money as possible are the people usually with the wealth.

It is actually the smart move not to spend 40$ on something that should cost no more then 10$.

Yo bro, bruh YOLO rite?

"Our goal isn’t to make money.*"

*Not speaking for :apple:

Obviously, the goal of ANY for-profit corporation is to make money. The difference here I think is how much does the most valuable company in the world need to continue to make at the expense of the goodwill towards the loyal customers who has MADE it the most valuable company in the world?

And, at what point do those loyal customers start thinking that maybe they're being taken advantage of, and start talking with their money?

I'm happy to say I think I've finally come out of my "MUST UPGRADE" stupor of the past few years.
