Agreed. Its rediculous these USA based companies to have headquarters in Ireland to avoid taxes in the USA. I’m not saying tax the crap out of them. But let’s put a minimum tax for corporations because they will find was to move to another country to avoid taxes.Small corporations can take their business offshore and avoid massive tax burdens. Any service business should consider just that. It only takes a bit of time and research. I wouldn’t be a US-based company if I could do it offshore and be an international business. It makes no sense to pay taxes that there are methods not to pay. What Congress needs to do is close tax loopholes for everyone. An alternative minimum of sorts for corporations. Then, tax 30% on worldwide profits. And only reduce those taxes when companies perform all their manufacturing in the USA.
So much wrong in one sentence , almost all the R&D and operations of those companies is in the US.
"They are doing absolutely nothing to strength the American economy" - do you know how many ppl work in silicon valley for those companies , how much auxiliary business make due to that ? how much money those workers earn and pay back in taxes , how much business is being built around those companies operating from inside the US ? do you understand that almost all of the american public is invested in their IRA and investing portfolio with those companies , which means that when they do well , so does a large portion of the American public that can share that success with them?
China would gladly switch the low earning (for the employees) easily transferred factories with the R&D centers that the US have that cannot be moved at all.
You can see how companies are moving factories around , its not something that stays in one place , on the other hand silicon valley is just growing and growing , so yes those companies do a lot of good to the American economy and that you cannot see this is probably due to bias.
People post this constantly, where have you been 🙂You are not supposed to say this here I believe 😁
That's the same as letting ebayers set up shop in Walmart, but Walmart would get no compensation for providing that space and publicity and no say in how they run their businesses.
iOS would become just another watered down, unremarkable os trying to please everybody all of the time. It would literally be the end of the Apple brand as we know it.
This assumes the Politicians are intelligent, And caring, instead of willing To tank the system due to their own grandstanding and vote hunting
I believe that they are willing to tank the country and everyone along with it, and that for the most part the people that The ones in charge don’t care if they tank everything to get their way.The means justify the end.
what’s disturbing is their lack of knowledge on this matter.
You are wrong, and one of the things I like about Trump and he did it well. Apple brought most of the money back to the US.Wake up, look where these companies you are defending are producing their goods. They are doing absolutely nothing to strength the American economy, other than using their HQ location to advertise with „Designed in California“. Most of their money resides outside US, and they also don‘t have plans to transfer it to the US.
Yes, this is like saying you personally can be successful but not too successful. Which people want to take that away too but that goes in to political discussions that I won't want to bring here. This feels why too much like “stick it to the man” and corporate resentment
Companies are not your friends, they are not your enemies as well, they do bad things, they should get punished, but saying they get to large is a bad saying,is success a bad thing,or is success to be limited because the government can’t do its job correctly?
That being said I believe that there must be way to support smaller businesses without killing large ones
And I would hope that if this would’ve been treated correctly that they would do that
But alas they didn’t even wanted to hear what Apple, Google, etc... have to say
Because they just want to do it perfunctorily...
Absolutely. I prefer Logic to FL Studio on Windows. I prefer Final Cut to Adobe. And actually I prefer iWork to Office in 95% of cases. I do still prefer Outlook to Apple Mail though.I buy Apple because I like the way they do software
The locked down nature is why I prefer iPhone and while I was scared of what a Mac locked down can be I am more and more fine with it thanks to these forums
I’m ok with a single App Store, which is probably more optimal than done mush-mosh of multiple app stores which is not as good for consumers. Epic apparently made billions using this model and then got greedy, which is what they have against them at this point.....
I might be okay with Apple regulating these app stores to some extent for security purposes. But on Apple’s current path, they’re not likely to get the option - the government is already getting involved and Apple has chosen to fight instead of just getting ahead of this and making reasonable changes, so expect the government to make crude decisions are suboptimal for everyone (but better than the status quo for app consumers and developers.)
Assuming this is correct, it would also be fair to mention they happen to be situated in one of the most expensive real estate markets in the country. Many employees in Silicon Valley already sleep in caravans, because they can’t pay their rent.
It's more about companies that grown so big they prevent smaller companies from prospering. They just keep buying other companies. Small companies are the backbone of our industry and larger companies prevent them ever being really successful and be able to compete.
The exit strategy of many of these smaller tech firms are surely "get purchased by Google, Apple, or Facebook"It's more about companies that grown so big they prevent smaller companies from prospering. Trump Calls Apple’s Overseas Cash Return ‘Huge Win’ for U.S.
President Donald Trump said in a tweet Wednesday that Apple Inc.’s decision to bring hundreds of billions of overseas dollars back to the U.S. is a “huge win for American workers and the USA!”www.bloomberg.com
That's Steve's way of selling it. That doesn't make it right. You do understand that, right?
The antitrust hearing that Apple CEO Tim Cook, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos participated in back in July confirmed that all of the companies are engaging in "behavior which is deeply disturbing and requires Congress to take action," according to Representative David Cicilline, the chairman of the House antitrust panel leading the inquiry.

Cicilline made the remarks in an interview with Bloomberg, where he said that the investigation has confirmed that Apple, Google, Amazon, and Facebook are all abusing their market power to the detriment of consumers.Cicilline said that he is prepared to deliver recommendations as soon as next month, and that Congress must act urgently to protect consumers. Cicilline did not go into detail about the recommendations the panel would deliver, but he says he's working with Republicans to find common ground on "biggest, boldest ideas."
According to Bloomberg, Cicilline did mention the possibility of a Glass-Steagall law for technology platforms, which would prevent tech companies from both running a platform and competing on it at the same time. The antitrust committee's report will address four areas: changes to current antitrust laws, reforms aimed at the tech sector, strengthening private antitrust litigation by plaintiffs, and ensuring the DoJ and FTC have the resources to do their jobs.
The U.S. House Judiciary Antitrust Subcommittee has been investigating Apple, Google, Amazon, and Facebook since July 2019, culminating in a hearing with the CEOs of all of the companies.
For Apple, the subcommittee has focused on the company's App Store policies and fees, specifically instances where it has rejected apps and changed App Store rules to its apparent benefit, such as when it began rejecting some parental control apps for using Mobile Device Management after the release of the Screen Time feature.
As the antitrust investigation has unfolded, Apple has been involved in some public battles over App Store policies and fees, first with the "Hey" email app and currently with Epic Games.

I am sure Adobe and Affinity will have their own stores too.
Just a quick search, named Google, but its usual there, not only Google. I saw a docu regarding this a while back.Assuming this is correct, it would also be fair to mention they happen to be situated in one of the most expensive real estate markets in the country.
But what to do about the uninformed, moron citizens that vote for them? You know the fist thrusting basement dwelling, ________ studies majors who've never worked a moment in their lives. These politicians have screwed American companies in the name of anti-trust while Chinese companies are growing leaps and bounds with the help from their Chinese government. American politicians are the real problems for hindering the success of American ingenuity. Get rid of uninformed, moron politicians and America will be much better.
Get informed. See how many Americans have jobs in these companies making high $ and paying taxes for others living on social programs. If these politicians help kill these great American companies than the space will be filled by non-American companies, you will be using products, software made mostly by Chinese companies and you have nothing left in America. Not even few high tech jobs. Unfortunately American economy has turned into consumer economy that is a big problem. Borrow and spend. If these moron politicians change tax laws to make it favorable to bring money to US, they will. No different than basic economic principles we all follow in our life. Moreover, regulations, labor laws, unions and on top hungry lawyers waiting to file zillions of law suits against companies to drain them to extinct; not worth making any product in America. Politicians, change these laws, environment, and America will be making products.Wake up, look where these companies you are defending are producing their goods. They are doing absolutely nothing to strength the American economy, other than using their HQ location to advertise with „Designed in California“. Most of their money resides outside US, and they also don‘t have plans to transfer it to the US.
