Update
Here is an update on my 3G issues.
I work a block from an Apple store. A coworker purchase a new Verizon iPhone 4 there this morning, he is experiencing the same issues with his iPhone that I am with mine. We compared or 3G speeds to other Verizon smartphones in the building, a Droid X and an HTC, both were many times faster, comparable to my Verizon netbook. We also compared our Verizon iPhone 4s to an AT&T iphone 4 in the building where we work, The AT&T was many times faster thean our Verizon iPhone 4s. The AT&T iPhones were a little faster than the Verizon Android phones but not by much.
We went to the Apple store and compared the Verizon and AT&T phones there. Same difference, it was like comparing a modem connection to a broadband connection. A Verizon Android phone was much faster there than the Verizon iPhones. The Apple store had no answers. They must be aware of this and did not seem to appreciate us pointing this issue out. They walked away and wouldn't discuss it further. There was a Verizon Wireless representative outside the store that refused to discuss this with us. He stated he was just monitoring traffic.
I spent an hour and a half on the phone with Verizon tech support last evening, rock solid connection on the iPhone
. I spent a lot of time on hold and repeated my situation to three diffrent tech support reps as the call worked it's way up the ladder. The offered no solutions or explanations. They all said I should expect similar 3G speeds between the iPhone and the netbook. Their tier 3 rep asked me to compare the performance inside the building to outside the building and e-mail him back today. I responded with the same information that I stated above.
I seriously doubt this can be resolved right away. I plan to switch back to my old flip phone this afternoon when I get home from work and send the iPhone back.
I am not bashing Verizon or Apple. I have been happy a Verizon Wireless for many years and plan to continue as one. I currently have 4 phones under contract with them. I own a number of apple products and have never had any issues with them, they always work. This just isn't working out for me. Mabey I'll give it another shot when the iPhone 5 comes out.
Thanks for all the responses.
