And Apple shares have never been higher, plus even Warren Buffet has declared himself bullish on Apple.

News of Apple's impending demise just because of a few outdated Macs are greatly exaggerated, much as some of the more vocal critics here wish it were true to serve as a middle finger to Apple for daring to neglect their beloved platform.

And house prices have never been higher... almost all economic guys said everything is ok! Then the bouble went plop.

R.I.P - Apple

Clearly the Mac is a dead platform in Apples eyes. Time to drag my self back to Windows in shame. What a sad day.

I wish they would licence out OSX so we could make our own macs, especially if the are going two years or more for a refresh. What a pathetic joke this company has become. But even then, I don't think Apple would have the maturity or loyalty to the users to keep drivers updated for the myriad of hardware out there.

The reality is, if you are a creative professional, scientist, or a professional of any kind at this rate, Macs do not offer the future security your firm will require. Where as windows does provide that. This means we go back to a time with little innovation and competition in the OS area.

The value of the Mac Pro lies in retaining developers to continue making apps for the iOS platform, not so much in the money they bring in from hardware sales. Apple thought they could eventually transition them over to the MacBook Pro and iMac. Guess they thought wrong.
Most devs probably use a rMBP. If not, they would rather have a tower with high-end consumer-grade desktop parts. Mac mini doesn't cut it. iMac would be pretty good if it weren't all-in-one. Mac Pro is overkill, especially in the GPU department, and it seems to be meant for creative professionals... whoever is left still using a Mac after they destroyed Final Cut and left the Mac Pro without updates for 4 years.

I ended up buying a used, cheap 2008 Mac Pro in 2012 to fill the gap in their product line. I can put a GTX 1080 in it if I want and destroy the 2013 MP in that area :)

A FEW outdated Macs? The MR Buyers' Guide has been showing all red for long periods of time over the past few years. "No updates in 2 years" and such on many models.

I wish Apple would extract its head and not overthink everything . . .

Just make the MP a tower with user upgradable internals. Go back to the prior rMBP case with current processors and drop LPDDR RAM - let the people who need 32 or 64 GB have the option. The battery life is a joke no matter what if you're doing anything remotely CPU/GPU intensive anyway - drop the pretense.

Apple's ability to invent new product categories died with Jobs. A pity, but it's reality.

My favourite tech journalist, Leo Laporte, was (rightfully) ridiculing the idiotic, melodramatic title of this very thread, on "The Tech Guy", (the show from Sunday 9th April) yesterday (well, Sunday, in the UK) - what a stupid, attention-seeking dumb title.

He clearly thinks whoever wrote this clap-trap click-bait title is a moron, and rightly so.

When I want balanced, accurately analysed and sensibly broken-down and pondered over musings on technology from middle aged, seasoned experts who've been in the business more than 5 mins, drawing on many decades of cumulative wisdom and experience, I go to TWiT - when I want a good laugh, and to see what UTTER CRAP the tech "journalists" have made up, today, I come to Macrumors.

Whenever a Mac user says "I'm returning to Windows", somewhere, an Ubuntu drops dead.

Whenever a Mac user PUBLICLY makes the statement "I'm moving back to Windows", we ALL know they're saying it for attention, knowing full well it will attract some idiotic argument with someone or other. We ALSO know they only say it for attention - a little bit like when some macho wise guy keeps threatening you and can't back up his threats - if it were the mafia, you'd get no talk, just the action itself... they'd just take you out - my parallel here is that if you ARE gonna go back to Windows, get on with it and don't expect anyone to care... and why are you openly telling strangers? That's all a tad too much like an attention-seeking baby, to me.

Quit Windows, quit Mac, compile your own hotdogs from tomato sauce code for all I care, get a life world and stop expecting everyone to stop what they're doing and look at you, hanging on every word you say, and every move you make - YOU WISH :D

Have we just seen proof that UK public health system is a dismal failure when it comes to mental health?

Agreed! Intel's inability to produce more powerful CPU's was a factor but not the main issue. The GPU was the real issue here, the dual GPU's never were really leveraged in most pro software. This is were a single more powerful GPU is needed and Apple hit the thermal issues with it.

But, this gets into what the design parameters where with the original design of the '13 MP and what people are doing today. 4k, 5k or even 8k video was not even being thought of yet back in 2013. Today we are working with RED cameras doing 4k and NHK (http://www.nhk.or.jp/8k/index_e.html) are teasing us with 8k! This is were the Mac Pro comes up short.

Red were there and NHK were teasing us with 8k in 2012 http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/researchanddevelopment/2012/08/the-olympics-in-super-hi-visio.shtml

Take the best PC-hardware, design a great, big, expandable case, optimize it for MacOS, stick a nice Apple badge on it. How long could that take?

Sadly, it does really take time to rev up a factory build of equipment like this. However, in China some factories are set up to work quickly to create the lines by spec quite fast. In turn, Apple would have to get those designs over and allow for ramp up. Meanwhile, I gather Apple would be cutting deals with AMD, Intel and whomever would make the motherboard. Lots of little details here. Of course I would have no issue if Apple got inspired by HP's mid-upper line Z workstations. I saw one video promo for it and thought it would be fun to overdub it and present it to some of my friends as the new Mac Pro. It's pretty nice guts and power.

While this is not the promo video, it shows what looks like what Apple should have done when maturing the cheese grater.

Nonsense. Very few iOS developers actually need a Mac Pro. The target audience for a machine like the Mac Pro isn't mobile app developers its high end video/graphics pros.

Fair point .

But who wants a laptop from a manufacturer that doesn't offer a top of the line computer, whether one needs it or not ?

Even if it was just a halo product - which the MP isn't - technology is a trickle down business .
If you can't offer one of the best workstations in the market, it's unlikely the lower product lines will remain a valid option for very long .
Especially true when you make your own OS .

Attention seeking? Haha. Coming to a geeky online forum for attention seeking is so 2005. If that's how you do attention seeking you are doing it wrong son. We have Facebook, twitter and instagram now. Get on it!

AGAIN, the point is HOW far Apple has fallen.

For anyone needing Pro tools to keep a roof over their heads, I sure as hell hope they have taken a hard look at how Apple has abandoned them, and have switched already.

Besides, who mentioned anything about overclocking their Mac?!?!

No, YOUR point is 'how far Apple has fallen', the ACTUAL point is that computer hardware today beats computer hardware from 4 years ago and it's an entirely utterly pointless and useless point to make, and to claim it's anything else is just jumping on the Apple bashing bandwagon.

You really don't need to make a video showing a pointless click bait video test to talk about Apples lack of updates and focus on the Pro market.

But you cannot develop iOS apps in Windows, so you need to buy a mac.

From the sounds of it, at least a year, maybe two.

Considering Apple's statement is because of video's like that, he surely does need to make video's like that. And he needs to do more, driving the nail into the coffin Apple made themselves.

The video clearly demonstrates how far Apple has fallen, selling out of date hardware at top prices and then the "we care, just wait 1-2 years for us to show it!" announcement. They clearly didn't care, it's just another attempt to spin like most recent annocements from them.

So you are angry at reality. Check

YES, it's "How far Apple has fallen", because Apple HAS fallen, and this is an example of how much. Again, this reality thing.

If you check sites that review CPUs, the charts I like to be included are the power per watt and power per $$$(value). Things like this just highlight, even with Apple's miserly Mac Pro price break, how Apple has and continues to simply not get the Pro market. And last time I checked, this is a Pro focused thread, no matter how angry you get at it.

Agreed, the mac pro with its old processors, unable to upgrade to a decent GPU really continue to make the MP a deal breaker for many folks.

The more I read/hear about Apple's admission, its seems they only started working on a new design a few weeks ago, and folks on the twit.tv podcasts think design a new product can take 1 or 2 years just for the design phase, never mind the time required for retooling the manufacturing process.

I like what Laporte of Twit.tv says, its vaperware to try to freeze the macpro customer demographic from jumping to Windows, i.e., offer a promise not a product to keep folks.

Bit late to this discussion - but seriously who is in charge of the Mac hardware back in Cupertino? Anyone with an ounce of interest in the hardware they're releasing took a look at the situation with the reekingly stagnant Mac Pro, and the release of the MacBook Pro with mediocre specs, and the touchbar (a feature I still don't see as being a 'Pro' feature) and thought "What are Apple playing at?!".

I mean christ - prominent YouTubers such as MKBHD and Casey Neistat, who clearly have contacts within and are known by Apple, have regularly slated their Mac Pro's as been simply not up to the job they were bought for. These are well known content creators with subscribers totalling over 10 MILLION between them, saying their Apple Pro hardware isn't good enough even for editing videos on. This is just two people on one 'social media' type platform. And there's plenty more of it on YouTube alone. Surely there must have been overwhelming feedback from other directions.

Whilst I'm glad Apple have finally woken up and are addressing these concerns it just amazes me that they've been not only so slow to react, but also so ignorant to the situation in the first place. The situation with the Pro hardware was abundantly obvious to everyone outside of Cupertino.. just evidently not to those inside?!

two years, it seems. 2 months for the design, 22 months for Jony to fall in love with it and to Tim to call it magical.

You two still don't get it..... if I a took four year old PC and compared it to this Ryzen PC, what would that prove exactly? Absolutely nothing, bar Moores Law..

I'm not excusing that Apple sells old tech at a premium, I have been telling you that this video is nothing more then clickbait proving nothing, because everyone knows it's old tech, the video doesn't prove or show anything new, it does not show Apple has fallen.... not in the slightest, it just shows they sell old hardware. It's kinda pathetic to claim Apples fallen when it's stocks are going up and up and up along with revenue going up and up and up.... they chose to ignore their computers and get away with it, shock horror they can't. And that can have an impact on the iOS market which they'll certainly defend as they'll be a company half the size without it. But why let facts get in the way eh?

As for Pros, well last time I checked 'real' professionals have ditched the Mac Pro, or use other Macs, so again it's an entirely utterly pointless comparison for them because they all already know..

The video is pointless, proves absolutely nothing new or that you couldn't guess already, it's click bait.

I'm not 'angry at reality', I just happen to realise it.
